Recently the aoudad/Barbary sheep has become one of my most wanted animals and certainly in my opinion the most needed caprine. I want to spread the support fro Frontier to potentially add them in the future so I'm making this thread to give some reasons why we need these guys:
1. They are unique appearance wise to other caprines - The Barbary sheep is unique from other wild sheep (genus: Ovis) enough to be placed in its own genus ( Ammotragus) which goes to show for a start that this is no ordinary caprine... Compared to the other two species we have in the game they are quite a bit smaller and stockier, have a sandy brown colouration and some very shaggy fur and unique horns. This unique appearance makes them quite a stand out from other caprines and makes them a great zoo animal in my opinion.
2. They represent a region which is currently quite underrepresented - The Barbary sheep is native to the mountains of northern Africa, we currently do not have many animals from this region... Especially the more mountainous parts. We also do not currently have a caprine native to drier arid regions, both the Dall sheep and the Alpine ibex are native to colder regions by comparison. So if you wanted to build a region themed around northern Africa, wanted to include some more mountainous species for your desert zone or maybe you just need a better caprine for your warmer climate zoo... The aoudad is a perfect choice.
3. They are really common in zoos - When it comes to wild caprines, the aoudad reigns supreme as the most common in zoos worldwide. Them being smaller than some other wild species makes them a great choice for smaller zoos and also for realistic players... Because of their wide spread across Europe (131 EAZA holdings!!) and also being relatively common in North America as far as I'm aware and I also believe they are one of the only caprines kept in Australian zoos. It's a great choice for smaller zoos and would allow players around the world to feel comfortable including a wild caprine while remaining realistic.
I hope some of you see this thread and join the aoudad train, if you already support Barbary sheep for Planet Zoo please reply so we can let Frontier know they are wanted!
