Will Colonisation Attract Gankers?

Players make a chioce in which mode they wish to play.
No player needs to be bothered by other players if they so wish, the game provides 2 modes in which there are only other friendly players, or none at all.

Why fret about folk you never need to meet? (and who are equally unlikely to find the prospect of lurking in a system under construction in the hope of finding another player in open as attractive as SD or an engineer / CG system))

Did some bounty hunting in Minerva the other say just to get on the list, gankers on system chat boasting how they were chasing player out of open into solo, they do know that's actually going to make their fun impossible right?

I find the chat really funny.

They are calling people in PG/solo cowards and other derogatory terms, but what do they expect will happen? Those in PG/solo will feel bad and switch to Open? If anything, they should quit their chatter and make people think open is fine, but when they are all sat their boasting about kills and talking like that it just reinforces the idea its better to remain in PG/solo.

On top, docking can be a pain in Open or busy PGs as people are locking the instances open and NPCs get stuck in the slot all the time. Then there are connection lags or drops as the instancing messes up.

Solo is by far the superior experience if you're just looking to get stuff done.

The only reason I'd enter open is if I was wanting to do PvP.

Ah, the inevitable path to California.

Bingo cards at the ready everyone.

My contribution:-

Despite all the claims that ganking, antisocial behavior, blocking and instance shenanigans would leave Open a desert, there are still plenty of "targets" willing to play in Open and remaining in Open.

Don't forget blocking bounty hunters, and then crying salty tears when they get blocked themsleves coz "mah inshtanchesh" 🤪 :ROFLMAO:

Got attacked twice by ganker, first a group of two who took turns interdicting me and wanting to know why I was running away when I was in a combat ship, dudes it's not a combat ship, it's an NPC Lawn Mower, it wouldn't last 5 seconds against a good PvP build, and besides I didn't come here to fight you. After the 3rd interdiction and jump- away I just logged out at the menu, then I came back in solo and blocked the pair of them. Second time got attacked while at the nav beacon mowing the grass so jumped to the nearest system, blocked them and jumped back. Job done, didn't see them again.

I'm having a different conversation with forum members about colonisation in a different thread, but one person did make an interesting point. @Alaska Sædelære said "And least of all do I want the creation of attraction points for gankers out there."

Now I almost always play in Solo so I'd not even considered this, but with so many commodities needing to be hauled about by so many commanders to make colonisation happen, will those systems become magnets for gankers when the colonies are being set up?

We can assume these systems will show in the system map, and if they do show as "under construction" I wonder if gankers won't just sit there and pick off any Type-9 or Cutter that comes in carrying millions of credits in cargo?

I wonder if FDev have thought of this 🤔
If you ever played Eve Online, you might know that the best way to analyze any PvP possibilities is to look through a killboard. Elite has one.

Quickly going through it shows that there is about 200 active PvP players who can be considered gankers. There are also about a 100 PvP players who looks like doing regular PvP and/or counter-ganking.

Even if just a 1000 players would go for Colonisation - there are simply not enough gankers to accommodate. There would probably be more newly made Architects, on top of that, some of the gankers will also take part in Colonisation and will be busy.

Bigger player groups, or streamers, or anyone of popularity might be a target for a more precisely aimed ganking, but apart from specific conditions like that - majority of players won't encounter anything like that at the start and for sometime. The worst case scenario - there would be a few gankers to roam around new systems hoping they will be in the systems at the right time as the Architect of that system arrives/departs, but with how many new systems there will be and how long it takes to travel around - good luck to gankers who would think its a good idea to do, haha. So, realistically, nobody is going to bother you in your remote systems unless you have an arch-nemesis or something similar.

But,

There is also a chance of potential hotspots. For example if Colonisation would require commodities that are only sold in one/few systems, or after current CGs, when the new Colonisation helper-fleet of megaships is deployed. Basically, instead of targeting a system with a CG, players can target a system that sources what's needed for CG.

In case of rare/sold-in-one-place things - yep, a perfect hotspot. As for helper-megaships - just source your stuff from regular stations anywhere else.

Good luck!

Days now, only days, are we excited? Wish it was here already! Of course, that old saying from the guild of time traveling salesmen comes to mind, "What do we want? Time travel. When do we want it? Yesterday!"

Unless you've got someone specifically going out of their way to target you, then the chances of having a hostile encounter across the vastness of the bubble's edge would seem to be very slim. I would say that it's much more likely that one would cross paths in more high-traffic systems like Deciat and Sol.

I think the closest thing I've heard happening is gankers camping places like Sag A*/Explorer's Anchorage, but again that's because one is more likely to actually encounter another human being there rather than in some random star system in the Ploooe Booorp Sector or whatever.
Yes, the galaxy is big huge enormous and random encounters with other commanders are few and far between...

...in some random star system in the Ploooe Booorp Sector or whatever.
That must be the sector where Raxxla is as I cannot find in on the galaxy map...
