Will you ditch the Python for the Chieftain

Can anything replace a Python?

It's like a pinnacle of engineering or something.
There are literally missions which should simply say "Requires a Python" because of the medium pad destination and cargo space needed, that no other ship can do. :p

I do look forward to seeing the Chieftain in action though.

I need to earn a few more credits before getting one myself.
Or i could sell my Corvette i don't like and un-bankrupt myself. Lol

I've replaced Python with other ships long time ago. Won't be difficult :)
Really looking forward to Chieftain and Krait. Even visually they are already like breath of fresh air compared to what we were getting previously.

That really depends on the specs.

I would be willing to forfeit a little cargo space if the Chieftain can offer something better in other areas, such as a fighter bay, better jump range or more slots.
Currently the Python is, in my view, the most flexible medium ship around. It lacks jump range and a fighter bay though.
I fly medium ships 95% of the time, mostly my Asp Explorer and Python, sometimes my FDL. So if the Chieftain offers something more, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Hmm. My Cutter and Anaconda really need some dusting off by now.

I just wished they never nerfed the hell out of the python. Pre nerf it was the best. But they hobbled it.

While I can sympathise with this, the Python was way over powered pre nerf. In some ways it still is. Makes it very hard to introduce new ships further down the line.
So it was probably the right decision.

I always liken the Python to a BMW. With all the connotations, pejoratives and inferences that brings.

Dont sully the python name with a bmw

Its not going to have a fighter bay

Its bad though when some other heavier larger ships out maneuver the python. Lol

Why is everyone so upset about 3 small hardpoints? This SCREAMS for rail guns. Cancelling 90% of SCBs in one salvo, while having 2L and 1M hardpoints for other weapons? Yes plz

That would be nice, but based on the infos we already have, it's quitle likely that 2 of the small hardpoints will be located on the nacelles, making them useless for railguns.

It may come as a surprise but you don't need to ditch anything to own a Chieftain...

No, it won't be anywhere near as versatile as a Python.

Unless it's vastly overpowered, no.

The Python and 'conda are FD's most loved children and will never be balanced as the multirole vessels they should be.

Besides being able to land with cargo on outposts why would anyone fly No-Pitch-Pythons?

Bought Python, flew it, hated it, sold it, never looked back. A regular station-wagon on 4 wheels could do a loop faster than Pythons -_-

There's been a few posts in this thread specifying the hardpoint specs of the Chieftain. 2L + 1M + 3S was it?

Can I ask where this information comes from? And if it's official information, are there any other known specifications? Link please!

Thanks and cheers.

I think it's going to be a case of FD saying, "So this new Chieftain, how can we disable it enough to make sure it isn't better than current comparable ships but make it better in other areas, areas that the other ships should be equal in too but aren't"

This one little point of info was leaked by one of the FDev lads in a forum thread earlier this week, along with the fact that its a medium pad ship. There is no other details as of writing. In 7 hours however, we will know.

Thank you muchly :)

Wait, 7 hours? I thought the beta starts on the 25th?

Edit: scratch that question - you were referring to the live stream, of course.

It's about time someone slapped me and said "For heaven's sake Ensign Ward, do try to keep up!"

;)

i probably would if it filled the same role and had a more awesome cockpit than the python. seeing as it is a combat ship, and has a lakon cockpit, i don't think it'll happen. still looking forward to checking it out, tho

You can see some hardpoints in these images.

I've tried to scrutinize the images to see if there are additional hardpoints on the back or sides, but couldn't see any that are distinctively a hardpoint.

I am assuming the Chieftain will have more than just 3 "forward" facing weapons, so wouldn't be surprised if it has some small turrets on the side or rear (underneath maybe) to allow it to cover it's flanks.

Then again, it is a Lakon design and they are kinda not known for putting weapons "all over" the ship. E.g. the Asp Explorer/Scout also have their weapons primarly at the front of the ship.
