Hi Folks
I'm contemplating 'upgrading' to windows 10 from win 7 (retail home version). The way I was thinking of doing it was to buy a new SSD (the present one is only 250 gb) to something like 500 GB or even 1 TB, buying a retail version of Win 10 (not sure which version at the moment) and doing a clean install on the new drive.
So, do I disconnect the old 250 Gb drive, install the new drive on the original SATA cable (without disconnecting it from the motherboard) and load the new OS?
The other question is, do I need to disconnect the other storage drives I've got (2 Weston digital) drives and then connect them back up once the new OS is installed on the new 'C' drive, or can I leave them connected whilst I'm installing Win 10?...will win 10 recognize them as storage/spare drives on installation of the new OS?
I take it that my original 'C' drive with win 7 on it would then (once connected to a spare SATA connection after istallation) would then revert to another 'storage drive'?
I've also only got 8 gig of ram in the machine at the moment, is it worth upgrading that also to say 16 or 32 gig or is that ok for now (I only play Elite on this machine and don't really use it for any other games programs etc).
I have another computer that's running win 7, also a home premium version that I use for other stuff (though that also has Elite installed, but it's a slightly lower spec. than the main one I use for playing Elite).
So just to make it clear, I have 2 separate Win 7 home premium retail CD disks, one for each of the 2 machines. I thought I'd mention this as perhaps I could upgrade the former less spec. machine at some point to win 10 by just upgrading the OS on that machine from the Microsoft website?
Any info or suggestions welcome!
Jack.
