Wing Ops Mining.

Chance to encounter npcs should get smaller the further you get from civilization and I recall people reporting spotting them as far as 600 or 1000 Ly from inhabited systems.

Anyway, System Authority ships should not appear in anarchy systems at all, so this might be a bug.

Best mining ship is a Python really.

2 med hardpoints to fit the SCL and AB.
3 Lrg hardpoints to fit gimbaled beam lasers and a frag cannon. Slices smaller ships to bits in seconds and holds off anything up to an FDL.

A-rate everything and add a mil bulkhead and you'll be able to at least survive 95% of NPC human encounters.

From there... Maybe you can wing up with a hauler who will do the heavy lifting while you do half and half on the core mining and escort duties.

Read the starting post. I am my own wing.

Ok!!!!! Final found some core. I was in a Void Opel Hotspot and ended up with Grandierite. Managed to get 6 tons.

I did not find a rock that looked like "popcorn". The rock I found was VERY bright and had surface deposits on it as well but it was brighter than a rock with only surface deposits. No actual visible fissures. I will try to clean the video up and post it. I have about 40 minutes with me muttering to myself.

Still watching the replay, but, I think the reason some SC's explode on contact is because the Fissure is High Strength and I didn't hold the SC trigger long enough to give it enough boost to get into the fissure.
Another possibility is that I wasn't looking straight at the fissure and hit the edge going in.
The good news was that about half the time the early detonation still freed a resource chunk I could pick up and refine.
Never was able to get more than one charge placed at a time.

I did eventually crack the rock but since I wasn't expecting the shot to do it, I was close enough that both ships took a bit of damage.

I was able to use the SDM to break things out of the fissures but I had to drill WAY down to do it. Kind'a thinking this might be a safer way to get the stuff out . Just might take longer but I don't think I would have to worry about nearly blowing myself up.

Definitely going to put an Abrasion Blaster on the Collector/Refinery ship. Just gets too crowded to have both ships in close enough for the AB and the Collector Limpets being on different ships. Might be ok if I had a friend sitting in the other chair but trying do do both ships myself breaking the stuff off the chunks is not feasible.

Glad you're enjoying your adventure.

Exploding on contact is a bug that happens with wing or multicrew mining (multicrew is human only). It has nothing to do with fissure strength. You can bounce them off the asteroid and they will still float around flashing red for some time before they explode.

You should be getting about 15 tons from core asteroids. I've gotten as many as 17 from one. If you're getting less, you are likely either not using the abrasion blaster (I think you probably are) or not hitting the optimal yield band in the graph to your upper right. It takes some practice, but high yield charges in low strength fissures, usually just 2 per asteroid, should get you there. If you find only high or medium strength fissures, you might need 3 or 4 charges at high yield. Of course, the closer you get to that optimal yield band, you'll need to lower the yield on your charges.

Then just turn and boost away, 1km or so works for me (never taken any damage from the explosion). Then fly back, target the stuck ones and abrasion blast them free. Your limpets will do the rest.

If this was true, then every Seismic Charge would explode on contact but they don't. I did manage to embed at least one and it did time out properly. I will endeavor to provide video.

The video is not clear that I had actually achieved embedding a SC. I did the shot and it didn't explode on contact and I immediately moved around the rock trying to set another one which exploded on contact at a low strength fissure and the rock cracked open.

I have two accounts and fly two ships on identical computers sitting side by side. Just finished my second 2000 LY round trip exploration run and both ships/commanders get credit for everything we find.
When I found out I could do it, I started probing rings and I have several systems out in the void marked where there are 7 or more of the high value minerals in hotspots.

Considering getting into mining again.

Played with it a bit when I first started playing and only had one ship and commander and I was inside the bubble. Got real frustrated with NPC's showing up and attacking me so I quit.

Do NPC's show up and harass/attack when mining in the void.
If one ship is attacked, do all ships in the wing immediately automatically see the NPC as hostile?
If one ship in a wing does a KWS on an NPC, do both ship get the info and the additional bounties?
To mine in peace, I use a python equipped for mn8ng and combat. I can kill most pirates or last long enough for the cops to get there . Then I can mine in peace since more won’t spawn till I leave the instance.

If you can’t fight them you have to outrun them in the instance until you lose contact then you are good, but that may cost you a juicy core.

I like the fight method better.

Ive seen this bug and never wingir multicrew mine. My kids have seen it too. Only after the April update and I’ve mined more than a billion credits of cores .

Very very frustrating. If it happens just keep shooting charges and eventually the rock willl blow and you get a small yield.

I don’t know how to reproduce the bug but it has happened multiple times since april

) or not hitting the optimal yield band in the graph to your upper right.
Ok, The only thing I see that could be called a "yield graph" is in the lower left corner and is associated with the SDM, I interpret it to be showing the depth and the density of the strata and optimum point to allow explosion.

Ok, Was late and I was tired last night when I first posted.

I really prefer not to fight, but, if as you noted, the rock eventually cracks and you get a "low yield" and I want to make the trip truly worthwhile, I may have to fight.
That was why it was good news that both ships in the human wing see the Pirate as hostile even if it only hits one ship. Really don't want to fight and would really like to know if the turrets on the wing ship that was not attacked activate in Fire at Will. That would give me a lot more confidence in the stay and fight plan. Pretty sure that two AspX's, one with 4 sm C/MCTs and one with 2 sm C/MCT's and 2 Med C/MCT's can take out a single NPC in anything the same size or smaller.

Problem is that I have now seen a wing of two NPC's and that would be much harder.
But, so far, every ship has been smaller than my AspX's.

Going to try a cargo transfer and move 3 of the Grandeterite from the Collector to the Miner so both will get equal payout and then watch to see if there is also some "sharing" "bonus" payout as well.

When I get back to my bubble edge base I am going to refit the Miner/Prospector with only the SCL and the SDM in the Med mounts and put the Abrasion Blaster and the Mining laser in the SM mounts with the least field of fire on the Collector/Refinery.

Then head back out farther and see what happens.

I am doing the mining right now because exploration has become a PITA because of the "everything shows as mapped" bug when trying to map bodies.

See on the upper right where it says "detonation yield"?

That's the graph you should be seeing after you place the first seismic charge.

I have never seen that graph so I would say I have never managed to embed a seismic charge.
Try breaking contact with your wing then begin the process of embedding the charges. See if that changes. While I was winged, same happened to me. No indicator because no charges were embedded. When they embed you get a countdown of plenty time to get away and you can detonate at any time until then by selecting the charge on the contacts panel and selecting "detonate now". It starts a 10 second timer, even that is plenty time to get away most of the time. I had the same experience while using multicrew with a forum member as well.

Well I am now reasonably sure that the turrets on the wingmate that is not attacked do not automatically engage the attacker of the other ship until it has been fire upon so the attacker actually show RED.

I also know that the Game AI cheats.

Tried to be prepared but there are limits.
I was outside the bubble in anarchy. I have NEVER seen an NPC in super-cruise in anarchy during over 5000 lys of exploration outside the bubble.
An Alliance Challenger attempted to interdict the Collector/Refinery and I beat it easily.
Dropped the Miner/Prospector into normal space and sat there for a bit. Locked the wing signal with the Collector/Refinery and dropped it into normal space and headed for the Miner/Prospector. I was within 1000 meters when the Alliance Challenger dropped into normal space (there were no ships in the system on the scanner when either of my ships dropped) and opened fire ONLY on the ship with cargo without any warning demand.
I put both ships at battle stations space via VA . Got the ship with cargo doing automated evasive maneuvers and chaff launches. It's turrets were firing nearly continuously and at one point had the NPC's shields down. Chaff seemed completely ineffective.
The NPC was showing "purple" to the wingmate and I maneuvered it within range and got the NPC into the field of fire and the turrets never fired. I was able to use the Abrasive Blaster and occasionally the Mining Laser to hit the NPC but he never fired a shot at me until his missiles had destroyed the Collector/Refiner. At that point he showed red to the Miner/Prospector, I switched modes and FG and the 2 small MC turrets came online but I chose to run and got away.

Got to do a serious rethink about this.

Presently considering getting my Cobra MKIIIs out of storage and fitting them thusly --->>> https://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_iii?code=A2pataFalddasaf427283O3R-00035d452o011lP42i.Iw18cQ==.Aw18gjGQ.H4sIAAAAAAAAA2P8Z8/AwPCXGUhw3GFlYOBX+fX/v5gGFwPDf+Z/UiApoCDDnwoGqJTQDm4GBpEaUQYGCZDy//8ZGABKqKqKQwAAAA==.CwegjOIAzgbHICGAbZBLRA7AxgUwPrYAWKyumA5rgE4jhQPRNRA=

Put a PWS on one and a KWS on the other.

This would mean I would need to get Marco Qwent, Hera Tani or Etienne Dorn active so I can get the G3 PP Overcharge for OA scanner/analyzer or drop back to OC level PWA and KWS.

Big advantages. These are cheap if I lose one again. Pointed at an open space between the rocks it should be able to boost away from danger. The holds are small enough I should be able to fill them in one playing session.
