Both charts represents different data.
Steamdb one represents highest peak of activity during 2 weeks.
@Tatanosaure is talking about average player increase.
This is fact there is huge gap between 2 charts. According to steamcharts average playerbase increased during September just by 5.07% compared to August. On the other hand steamdb that peak increased by 4k from 31th August to 14th September.
It would mean Oceania Pack had achieved average PZ interest during first Sunday, but quickly fallen afterwards. So overall DLC didnt manage to hold player interest for long. High DLC peaks were simply counterbalanced by lower player engagement resulting in small % shift in average player count.
Also one funny thing I noticed how PZ playerbase suddenly dropped 1st September. Seems like there are more young players nowadays than one could assume.
also September 1st is only really significant to the northern hemisphere so they amount of kids in general playing the game is probably even more influential.
I do not think it really matters if the DLC holds the attention of players for longer or shorter. What matters is how many people bought the DLC, if they buy the DLC, Frontier couldnt care less if they play it for one day or one month. They do not get any additional income from people playing it longer.
it depends on why they make the dlc because I believe they still make most of their money from the base game which a new dlc release brings attention to the game and sells more of the base game so they may be after the attention more than the initial sales
The lodge idea could be extended to hotels in general. Idk how that could work tho, maybe have a facility like the keeper huts and call it guest appartment. Which you can then build around or use provided blue prints like the other staff things. Maybe that could work.
Are zoo hotels even a big thing tho? Where i am they really arent from what ive seen. I mean sure most big zoos are in big cities, and those have plenty of hotels, but i dont thnk ive ever seen one thats specificly part of the zoo
I have only really heard of long term hotels in the context of us zoos but my local zoo does do one night stays where you get a special pass to interact with the animals early in the morning so the idea of a hotel isnt too out there.
As much as the forum hates the idea of a domestics pack, I would be among the first in line to buy that. Petting zoo dlc + animal feeding in the free update would be one of the most successful ideas for the game. As previously mentioned, lots of the playerbase are not adults so cute domestic animals would be the best way excluding aquatics to introduce new players to the game, even to the point i think the non vocal portion of the community doesn't care that much about birds to be honest.
the only way I would buy a domestics pack is if it had the alpaca anything else I just personally would find boring
In my opinion, making players active in PZ is actually very simple. You can post a special community activity every three or four months, where all players release a certain number of certain animals together, and you can permanently unlock one of the subspecies (often a simple "clone") as a free update to join the game. The cost is that players need to work together to spend time and energy releasing animals. (For example, releasing a certain number of Bengal tigers or Himalayan brown bears to unlock Sumatran tigers or Eurasian brown bears)
This actually wouldnt be a bad idea to keep engagement because aside from the hellscape that is the market the one thing I dont like about the current community challenges is the reward feels meh and would be a great way to boost the base games roster with animals people would hate in dlcs and wouldnt cause people to stop paying for them
How do you measure the needs of a species that does not exist in the wild?
they did it for the scimtar oryx and the peres david deer what about the prezwalskis horse which did technically go extinct but since its a subspecies what we think it was supposed to look like was breed and released
Very simple, how to measure it? We design habitats for wild animals, and many of them are based on how they survive in the wild. And farm animals...please, they live their whole lives in the environment that humans think they need. This is fundamentally different from wild animals that have evolved over millions of years.
just because they are domestic animals doesnt mean they dont have needs do you think zoos base there care requirements entirely off there natural environments because they dont they base it off physically what does the animal need to function healthy so for some animals even though they have territories 1000m wide in the wild may be fine in 100m.
I really do not expect a Farm animal Pack. Especially from a financial Point of View. I think it is a Pack which divides the Players and the risk to Fail for the Pack could be too high If a certain amount of Players perhaps could skip it. On the other Hand I do Not believe that this pack would bring new players to the Game to compensate the lost players.
In contrast I Accept that Flying birds could Bring Back some older Players or even new ones to the Game (even if I personally do Not need them). But I still can Imagine technical restrictions or Problems (or a Potential Feature for a Potential sequel) as a reason.
It is the most polarising pack with a chance to either sell really well or really bad
My point is simple, man,how to measure it? We design habitats for wild animals, and many of them are based on how they survive in the wild. And farm animals...please, they live their whole lives in the environment that humans think they need. This is fundamentally different from wild animals that have evolved over millions of years.Domestic animals and pets are the result of artificial breeding. They do not belong to the wild world. You cannot have enough objective standards to set their welfare index. Yes, I know there will be some needs that are the same. For example, cats like to climb to high places.. But they have too much relationship with humans and too little with the natural world in the wild. A practical question is, if I release domestic animals in the wild in the brand model, should I be given environmental protection points? As we all know, domestic animals are a disaster for the natural world. Abandoned domestic animals and pets can seriously damage the natural biological chain. And if they are not released into the wild, an entire DLC animal will miss out on the interactive mechanism between officials and players that has lasted for several years. There's really a lot that doesn't make sense in all of this.
Domestic animals appear in almost all major zoos so regardless of the conservation value argument they are an important part of zoo history. Also domestic animals arent just plastic robots each one is adapted to the environments they are found in highland and watsui cattle are both cattle breeds with very different environmental needs in terms of temperature based on adaptations. The only part of your argument that makes sense is the releasing to the wild thing which yeah you shouldnt be allowed to release them the game already has a system for this the rehoming ability. Also a zoo is not the wild so saying they are too connected to people to put them in a zoo is a very very strange idea.
I don’t know how many people know the horrific disasters caused to the ecological environment by irresponsible people releasing domestic animals into the wild every year. I don’t know how many people in this forum are from New Zealand. If there are friends from New Zealand, Please tell us why the New Zealand government has such strict control over "domestic animals".
Invasive animals account for almost all the native mammal extinctions in Australia so yeah domestic animal release is pretty bad for the envioment
On the forums, just here. I have yet to find anywhere else that actively hates the idea of a domestic pack.
I think the idea is fairly popular outside the forums yet to hear it criticised at least disproportionally to any other ideas
considering I had to look up that word there is less than 0 chance that it would be used as a pack name closet you will get is a river pack.
