Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

no anything but that we dont need that many ungulates please.
Mountain Goat Bighorn Sheep Markhor Himalyan Tahr.jpg

On the contrary. We need more caprines.

Takin
Musk Ox (i don’t mind it as long as we get the takin as well)
Chamois
Himalayan Tahr
Markhor
Mouflon
Barbary Sheep
Wisent
Watusi
Highland Cattle
Bighorn Sheep (why not)

That’s what I’m talking about.
Aren't wisent, Highlands cow and watusi bovids?

Actually all of them are bovids.

Bovids is the whole group which consits of caprines and bovines among other things. the naming in taxonimy can get really confusing honestly, like mustelids and musteloids
So all of them are bovids but not caprines then.

Um hello? Mountain scenery pack animal roster?

What top 4 habitat animals would you choose?
Takin
Markhor
Pallas’ Cat
Wolverine
Chinese Giant Salamander (E)

Two Ungulates, one Mustelid, one Cat, and one Amphibian. Two Herbivores and Two Carnivores. The perfect balance.

Also while checking that i learned that antelopes are not a natural grouping lol.
Like wildebeest are closer to sheep and goats than to true antelops like gazelles. Same with nilgai and kudus which are closer to cattle
Ooh, I want to try some Nilgai cheese now. Is that even a thing?🤣🤣

I’d love the Highland Cow, but apparently they don’t live in the mountains despite their name.
Yeah that's the awkwardness surrounding the name, there are very few fields in the true mountain regions but I have seen several 'up in the hills' as I would say. Generally it's more typical rolling farmland areas where the cattle are found.

My roster:

Markhor
Gelada
Pallas Cat
Wolverine
Salamander or Titicaca frog (E)

This is tough to narrow down, the Markhor and the Wolverine would be guarantees, cause one is most wanted and the other is the most popular mountains animal. The cat is their cause frontier loves cats and the gelada is more of a bias pick, but then again I don’t see them doing 2 bovids/caprines in a scenery pack.

Option 1: Himalayan
Seriously, go look up the houses and temples from that region. They’re beautiful.
Option 2: Contemporary Native American
I’ve looked it up, and it seems like a nice blend of modern architecture and native American art and building techniques.
Option 3:
Something like a Swiss chalet. I was going to also bring up something Norwegian, but after looking it up, I figured out that the Arctic Pack scenery took a good bit of inspiration from it, especially the Heddal Stave Church, the Hopperstad Stave Church, and the Borgund Stave Church (Basically three stave churches. Huh. Now I can build a church in Planet Zoo.).
That third option was something like what I'm envisioning as well. Or something super modern yet also rustic (if that can be a thing? Something like this for instance

Um hello? Mountain scenery pack animal roster?

What top 4 habitat animals would you choose?
  1. Markhor
  2. Spectacled Bear
  3. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  4. Hamadryas Baboon
  5. Eagles in Exhibit
What's included and why: The first choice, the markhor, provides an iconic staple of previous games that can easily be a headliner animal. While I personally would prefer an American Black Bear, this one is popular and a key pick of many mountain pack ideas to add something iconic and clearly missing from South America. Either of the popular tree kangaroos would work. They both live in the montane forests of New Guinea. Their combined votes would make tree kangaroos even more popular than the wolverine and would thus be a great forum pick. The game needs more monkeys, and an arid baboon would be great for primate variety. I'm still holding out hope for flying birds. I would imagine it would be pretty easy to slightly modify a few different eagles from one animated one. There is a bird, ungulate (caprine), carnivoran, marsupial, and a primate to add taxon diversity. Asia, South America, Africa, and Oceania are covered for regional diversity. Taiga, tropical, and desert are all covered for biome diversity. I think this would be a fun lineup.

What didn't make the cut and why: The wolverine would be a better star in a tundra pack alongside the musk ox and walrus, which I don't think have enough appeal to stand on their own. While the ABB is my favorite bear, a temperate or taiga pack might be a better fit. If they have some other plan for the tree kangaroo or baboon, the first thing I would add in is the Pallas's cat, which might not have many other opportunities. The golden snub nosed monkey and gelada, while very cool and possibly essential too, seem less important than an ABC-animal. The takin could work in a temperate or East Asia pack. There are some other caprines that I would like to see, especially the bighorn sheep, but Asia should get one first. I think the Darwin's Rhea is the best option for a mountain habitat bird, but the spectacled bear seems much more popular and iconic for SA representation. The pheasants would be cool, but I honestly see them arriving as temperate or East Asia pack animals.

If I could be totally selfish and just go down my favorites, I would pick the American black bear, Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo, Wolverine, and Markhor, with the Pallas's cat missing the cut by a whisker.
