Well, yes. I don't think anyone is that knows it's just a test version playpen for devs to peer at us scooting about in! It's far from ready ready, still in shakedown, still being tested to destruction, and will still have more content added as we get closer to release. I suspect features and content, plots and bug fixes will explode in activity post-release. It will grow in size and maturity, and the cloud servers will help with that.
I don't think the vocal part critizing the game is made up of many people who not actually bought the game. All you early backers have to understand that a lot of the new guys expected more than flying around in space looking at stars and trading. The game lacks content right now, there is no denying it. If you are happy with the game in its current state, good for you, but don't talk down on others for not being content and asking for answers. I and im sure many others have been burned too many times by games which promise the world to you but not delivering in the end. Many of those games had its share of "fanboys" defending every aspect of the game praising the devs aswell. Be open for discussion even if you enjoy your corner of the galaxy.
I want ED to succeed. This year has been one long string of games not delivering in one way or the other on PC, while their console-versions (for the titles that had console versions) ran smoothly. Point in case, I bought Inquisition for my PS4 and have been playing with a big smile on my face. The people who call themselves the PC-masterrace are crying.
It was a nice year in titles, but that's all that can be said. In actual playability on the PC-platform, 2014 was a lowpoint in gaming.
I don't think that people want to see ED fail, it's that PC-game failure has become the defacto standard in 2014. Face it, there are a lot of red flags raised on ED:
1. Always online.
2. Not feature complete.
3. Not clear what will be paid DLC and what will be free content-patches.
4. Emergent gameplay
5. Developer driven events and storyline.
6. Multiplayer with little chance of running into other players.
7. Already people can't access their paid for product.
Given the last year and the plans for ED, it's really not that hard to understand where the negativity comes from. That said, I want ED to succeed. I already have way too many games accumulated this year that are worthless space-eaters on my HDD. Buying a new game isn't as fun as it used to be. ^^
it is BETA and I for one am in it for the long haul as it is about the journey not the destination but there will be a vertical slice on release that we can role play around.
sock puppets on this forum.

So nothing to worry about except the corporate sock puppets on this forum.

Indeed, and they will get more than this which is only a part of it.

It does, yet all testers should have seen Alpha 1.0. tumbleweed...

Genuine question as I only found out about ED when beta3 was available, bought it straight away and as far as I can see this IS modern Elite game.
Was there anything else specifically promised and not yet delivered (let's not talk about offline mode)?
Also, the idea of having a snake jump out of your screen and biting your nose, so that it falls off, is clearly a crappy idea in the minds of some, but that doesn't necessarily make it true.
So yeah. It seems a bit strange that there are people on the forum that can't understand why people are getting worried.
There is a Design Discussion Archive which goes in to considerable detail about all aspects of the game, excluding things that we knew were expansions. This was built up by interaction between the dev and very early backers. There have also been efforts by posters to maintain lists of possible features, marking off those that have been "confirmed" by a dev and those that are actually finished.

While it was never promised that these things would all make release or even be done at all, it did become the norm to refer people there to see what Elite was all about - and the dev never dissuaded this or suggested that those did not actually represent the product we should expect. Neither did they make an effort of their own to detail exactly what we should expect at launch other than in very vague terms. So many people built hopes for the game based on the best information they could find or be pointed to. Knowing that the devs could see them being directed there and were apparently comfortable with that.
So no that's not a promise, but's also not unreasonable behaviour on behalf of the players.
There's also a couple of fundamental expectations from the outside. One is that we weren't buying a modern remake of Elite, but a modern sequel to Elite - something with much more extensive features befitting a 2014 product which runs on vastly superior hardware, has an enormously higher budget, bigger team, etc.
Secondly, at heart, part of being a modern Elite game is being a modern game. When you release a full price game that does come with the expectation that it will be in a release worthy state and basically a good game.
I did some research today on KS page and was under impression that most was indeed delivered.
Well, sad to admit, but that is something I did not check yet, as I couldn't persuade any of my friends to shell 60 euro on a clone of a 30 years old space sim...Since we are not speaking about "the event". I think what is the main missing part is the "play with your friends" part.
Over 20 years, yes that's OVER TWENTY YEARS me an a lot of other people have been waiting for this game, and now its here and its amazing , the best part? its only going to get better.
For all those whining about this and that think about those of us that have waited decades for this game ,be patient and be thankful you can play it now.

I just saw 'Private group' (or similar) in main menu and assumed that it is developed already and that you can play with friends. If it is not yet implemented than it IS a HUGE letdown for all the players, especially in the light of recent ditching of the offline mode.
Classic problem of early access - you end up playing many hours and nothing is fresh any more. So instead of viewing it as a new game you see all the warts and imperfections. For ED this is made worse because its not styled as a classic MMO and most people like to pigeon hole games in order to make comparisons. The more people highlight the warts, the quicker new players see them. I also think that release is seen as "complete" release whereas its simply a launch pad with more development to come.
Dont see a solution and I have certainly reduced my posting.
