X55 Rhino Button Layout with Reference Card

Some excellent reference cards there guys. I've stolen them all so I can blame you when i can't get it to work properly.
;)

I bought my from GameShark, which are the official Saitek store in the UK. Paid full price, I've seen them cheaper on EBay. However, everywhere was out of stock when I first started looking. Eventually I phone Saitek's UK office and found out when the next batch was being delivered. Got my order in fast.
Yeah, been trolling around Ebay too but there's nowt on offer.
And I reckon that I probably wouldn't get it much cheaper than the official store anyway. So, end of the month is it then. Which is a pain in the arsè as I've got £300+ of road tax to pay for too :(

Just one last point I want to be certain of: Does the X55 have a twist action for yaw ?

Don't forget you need triple monitors!

Don't forget you need Oculus Rift!
Fixed this for you :D

Waaaaay ahead of you.
This list keeps getting longer.

I'm not able to get the nipple to work at all. Which is a real shame as it's in the perfect position for thrusters.

Any thoughts on how to pick it up in ED? I have the drivers installed but not the mapping software.

I think I just read somewhre you need the programming software running for the mouse switch to function properly.

Nice to see your setups, guys! Given me something to think about for when mine arrives...hopefully this week :)

Thanks for posting the profiles. I need to get round to doing mine.

So far the only thing I can see in common amongst all the profiles (mine included) is the use of the red button on the throttle for boost  :D

No reason why not; they're just an XML file in your AppData directory.

Sandcracka, kind I ask you to kindly post your Custom.binds file up somewhere pls so we could download it.
It's here
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\Custom.binds

It would save a lot of time, thanks

Can i ask how you guys find it is using a decent HOTAS like this in conjuction with OR?

I'm thinking about ordering both (got a stash the wife doesn't know about) and am a bit worried that with this many toggles/buttons it'll be like driving blindfold

Or am I better investing in track IR if I want to use a decent stick?

Personally I don't use many of the toggles and switches. As per my layout above you can see that they're pretty much totally unused because I'm building up to the idea that I'll eventually be flying with an OR so there will be no way I can take a quick look at the throttle to see if I'm about to press switch 1, 3 or 5.

Instead I'm using Voice Attack for anything that isn't so time-critical that it needs to be sitting on a button. Everything from hardpoints to cargo scoop is voice controlled, and that works very well for me in that I never have to take my hands off the stick/throttle. This should set me up nicely for when I have my OR.

In the meantime, although I do have headlook bound to my stick/throttle I'm actively trying not to use it so that I don't confuse myself once the OR arrives.

I think you are better off with a TrackIR for now and grab the OR when it is released for the public.
What I am hearing from people that have the current dev version is that the screens are still pretty low res.
As far as HOTAS ones you commit to use one, you will learn the button layouts so you do not have to see where the buttons are that you are looking for you will know.
For that however you need to put the hours into learning your button layout, kind of how you do not have to look down during driving your car to find the shifter or the clutch pedal, or to change the radio station.

hmm both posts provide food for thought, I was tempted to try Voiceattack tho my concern is I play on voice comms a lot and worry whilst chatting away I'll be causing all kinds of grief in game or is there a toggle?

I'm desperately trying to talk myself out of ordering the DK2 OR as I know that it will prolly be inferior to the commercial release but don't know if my willpower can last till the end of 2015!

Curses but I'm weak for tech

Not sure if there is a toggle on VoiceAttack, but there is on most of the comms packages (Mumble/TS/whatever) so might be easier to set it there.

Alternatively you could build out a mode setup, where you use a single phrase to alert VoiceAttack that you are talking to it, although then you'll broadcast your ship commands over your comms so probably not what your friends want to hear.
