XB User Turned PC Player

I used to be a pc gamer and played about every Elite kind of game on it, my X52 is still laying around somewhere.
But I just grew tired of having to upgrade my gaming rig every other year, or the messing around with drivers etc.
I'm over 50 now retired and lazy, I love to sit in my recliner a nice Scotch on the side and play ED on my 52 inch plasma.
Xbox One is my platform now and when the Scorpio means a better ED then I'll buy that one too.

Pc must be build to be able to run game properly.
Game must be build to run properly on console.

Yes a high end pc will always be better, the console is just more convenient.

Incorrect! Lol

My PC is made of mixed of parts ranging from over a decade, to 7 years old.
Excluding a new case, and some fans which fail every few years.

You only need an upgrade every other year, if you have gaming OCD. Lol
I run my GPUs in to the ground before upgrading.
CPUs and RAM last much longer.

I used to run an Intel Q6600 and 8GB DDR2 for the longest time.
I only upgraded that, when my upgraded GPU bottlenecked it in Arma III.
As for drivers, they're no more trouble than downloading an update. Most are self updating if you let them. Ive never had an issue, and my drivers are classed as legacy now. Lol

My Frankenstein of a PC can still run new titles perfectly well on settings than can still rival X-Box One and PS4.

It does need a new GPU soon though.
7 years is bordering on prehistoric. Lol

Admittedly, there's nothing more lazy a console. Lol
That's they're entire appeal after all. :)

Do you guys make use of all the "extras" for the PC that are not available on the XB1 version -- ie: head tracking, voice attack, HOTAS, etc?

I've got the XB1 Chatpad installed on my Elite Controller. I am able to map all the PC keyboard bindings to that Chatpad, which is also backlit. I don't use head tracking, but other than that, I have access to pretty much any control options a conventional desktop gaming rig would have.

I own an X-52, but I prefer the Elite. MUCH faster for combat! If you are coming over from the Xbox One version, I would seriously consider picking up the Elite! Built like a tank with all metal gimbals, stick height and trigger pressure and range adjustments, on and on.

Best game controller I have ever owned or used hands down.

Congrats on making the move to PC. :)

I spent quite a bit of CASH on this PC. Gonna be a couple weeks before i can purchase the Hotas. But it WILL happen.
Also consider dual joysticks.

I've been running two since Christmas and I like it a lot.

Maybe an odd combo to some, but I have a CH Combatstick on the right and a CH Flightstick Pro for the left since it's ambidextrous.

Right stick is pitch and roll with up/down/left/right on the 4-wat hat, and the left stick is forward/reverse thrust and yaw.

Ah, the salt flows into my wounds from this thread. I have always been a PC gamer but ever since my gaming PC blew up...long story...I have not had the money or the will to replace it. I now keep a crappy laptop and a semi good Mac. However, seeing as neither of them is a true gaming build I chose to get Elite: Dangerous on XBox One. Yes it has limitations, you learn to adapt like any other disability...but it is nice playing the game in any position, including flat- laid out on the couch, head semi-hanging upside down :p

I just did the same thing last week. got my self a x52 pro and am never going back to the xbox for elite. everything is just so much better on pc. I did the credit transfer too and it really helped being able to buy any ship so the only grind is now the ranks and engineers again but its fun instead of work since im learning the hotas as well.

I didn't know. Jokes on me. Paid $60 again. Oh Well. FD can use it to add to the game. Is it too late?

EDIT: unless i am missing it a google search says you cannot transfer XB Account to PC.

He meant they can transfer your in-game credits and asset value to your PC account. Probably got ninja'd on this info, can't be bothered to look and see.

Oh well, enjoy the master race goosestep, Mr. Mostly Penniless. :p

I started playing Elite on Console when it was first introduced to the Game Preview Program. Loved the game so much, I built a PC to play it.

I just finished said PC this past weekend and after only a few hours with it, I am never going back. The menu's are instant. Rez looks so amazing. Sounds much better. All around, a more immersive experience.

I have since uninstalled the game from my console 50% thru Federation Midshipman Rank and my Sol Permit. Starting over never felt so good!

That's great OP. I've always played it on PC so I don't have anything to compare it with. I'd rather not play it on a console (or Mac) but I want to be careful not to judge those that do. If I didn't own a good PC and had a XBOne / PS4 / Mac I'd probably play it on that platform instead.

I did the same thing, OP. Began on the Xb1, it inspired me to build my first gaming PC (and it's a monster too), and now I play primarily over there. A lot of memories over on the Xbone though. Went to SagA* and back, made a couple friends along the way. I miss it. The friends, not the game's console performance. It was pretty painful seeing my ranks disappear though. I was so close to Elite in Exploration. I blame the SagA trip to breaking my Xb1 controller. No, I didn't crash or blow up my ship (actually made it there and back with 100% hull). But all those jumps shook my controller so much that it stopped connecting to the console, lol.

However, I have a feeling I'll be dabbling in Elite on PS4 once it drops if any of my friends get it, just to help them out.

I can definitely relate to that, CMDR. I ran that combination for what feels like forever, before building a new machine last year. Don't know what it was, but that CPU seemed able to handle anything and everything, along with a Radeon I had with it.

Fallen off the wagon

I was a XBox360 player when the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter was announced. At the time there was no choice but to play it on PC. I would've probably picked up a console version of the game if one had been available.

My PC was a beaten up old thing that had no chance of running games. I had to open it up and drop in a better graphics card. That got my old addiction going. Now every bit of my computer's been upgraded. The only bit that's original is the case.

The next thing I'm going to upgrade is my case because the last graphics card I dropped in was so big I had to hacksaw the back of my case to get it to fit in.

...
The best feature of a gaming pc by far, is the ability to still play games on it from 1990. :p
One machine to rule them all!

Weirdly the experience of trying to play an old game was the thing that had turned me away from PC. I'd found an old copy of one of the GTA games. I saw that I had the copy protection code on the cover of the game and so I popped in the disc to install it. I turned out that I was missing another code. The DRM was a two-part system and I only had the first part.

I stopped buying PC games when Ubisoft and Electronic Arts started insisting on always-online DRM. I've never been a big fan of check-online DRM ever since I lost a program when a company went bust. The debacle at the launch of the XBOne ensured I would never buy one.

I play Elite on my XB1 for 2 reasons -- commanding from my couch and an 84 inch screen. Those overrule the benefits of the PC for me personally.

With a humongous screen like that I'm surprised you aren't feeding it with the best picture quality you can get. Back in the old days, Currys used to always show off their best tellies with feeds from computers to display them in the best possible light.

Consoles are great! I am a PC (core) gamer too but have a Wii U and Ps4 Pro for games that you cant/dont want to play on PC. Im in love with Nintendo games since the 80s, and Uncharted 4 on a 65" 4k HDR Screen has the best graphics i have ever seen!

Agreed. I enjoy my XB1's. Kids do too. I am a big Uncharted fan. Played them all on PS3 and quite honestly I was on the fence between a PS4 + PSVR purchase in lieu of the PC build (Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn were calling me!). In the end, i chose the PC Build.

As i am a Destiny fan (played since Beta) this article intrigued me: http://www.pcgamer.com/6-things-des..._source=twitter&utm_campaign=buffer-pcgamertw

Particularly this line:

"Aligning the PC and Xbox versions would also represent an easy win for Microsoft. With the next Xbox (currently dubbed ‘Scorpio’), almost certain to be what we’d consider a current mid to high-end PC in a box, being able to use the same characters and gear on both would be a boon for those who like to play at a desk and on the couch."

Currently "scorpio" is estimated to cost $600. How can this be comparable to a "high end" PC?

If this proves true, the lines between PC and Console may soon be blurred.

The answer is most likely the power of bulk purchase, and also, I belive, consoles are sold at a loss.

Mid - to high end could easily be an R5 Ryzen - like CPU (consumer price at around 200 USD) plus some GPU (most probably in an APU form (GPU integrated into the CPU))
Add some random memory, HDD and PSU plus modified Windows as OS (?), and 600 USD with the above mentioned bulk discounts and selling at a loss becomes viable.

Edit: quickly searched for scorpio specs, 8 core, 4k plus VR? Hmm...
I'd say, definitely Ryzen and maybe Vega? Or the rumored Xfire?

XBox One players might not have all the fancy gadgets that Elite: Dangerous PC players have but we still contribute to the overall quality of the game :) . . .
