Arindor - my understanding is xbox one tagged data will be lost.
On another note - I have updated and then loaded Elite on my Xbox One this AM and the system loaded a saved game from 3-4 weeks ago!!! ARGHHH is not the word! Can someone reassure me this is not permanent? I have lost about 20-25 million credits and all my ranking information.

Server was supposed to be down for 6 hours starting an hour and a half ago, so yeah, its probably temporary and you're just seeing strangeness from an old state they loaded up for testing or something, log out and log back in 5 hours from now and if there is still a problem, send a ticket then
Thanks HornDog. The link from the server update thread brought me here. I wasn't aware of my surroundings, and I clearly didn't read the OP's post properly! Doh!! I can understand why XBone would miss out on this, we don't want a confused server!
As an aside, it's a shame that different formats won't meet. Either way, welcome to the galaxy!
Assuming "demo" means the game preview (can't imagine what else), then no. You paid to get the full game on release.
No. If you've purchased the Game Preview version then you don't have to pay again. You'll just get an update and the game will be converted to the final release.

We'll see how they manage to merge the servers. It's possible that there will be data loss, but hopefully we all get to keep everything we have. At the moment I don't recommend logging in as it's possible that you'll overwrite your old save and lose everything permanently.
Stupid question perhaps, but have there been any updates to the in game tutorials? I've only played an hour or so (on Xbox) and found it very difficult to get the hang of pretty much everything, going to youtube sites is a pain in the .

So, trying to land for days followed by shooting up Lave station to get wiped out by Police Vipers repeatedly then 
I first played on the BBC Micro version as soon as it was released, using a pair of homebuilt joysticks - one for roll & dive/climb, the other for throttle. I think the experience has set me in good stead for docking in ED. I was always amazed though that some people could actually play, and dock, using just the keyboard controls!
Sadly, the cops don't always, or even often cruise around in Vipers, they're not even yellow...and you can't shoot up a station and sit there waiting for waves and waves of the filth either...the station itself will blow you out of the sky...its a sad, sad state this galaxy has come to, I don't mind tellin' ya...and what does a body need with all these fancy graphics anyway...in my day, we walked uphill both ways through drifting snow for wireframes masquerading as vector graphics...AND WE LIKED IT! WE LIKED IT!!

honest to goodness noob here. I want to have a crack at this game but have to admit to being a bit intimidated by all the stuff I will need to know - that I wont as I start out. Are there any recommendation as to where to start/which threads to read/game guides/gentle introduction for newbies - type areas?
I am old enough to have played the original Elite but this new one is a whole new kettle of fish so am looking for a Qwai Gon Jin to my Obi Wan.
