Xenobiology study of Thargoid Ship Logograms - Compendium

Here's some that I've come across. Hope they help at all.

Edit:: All of these were taken from Non-Human Signal Sources. Every one of them were non hostile unless I drew too close in which case they'd honk red and send out their Thargon Swarm but didn't attack. They'd then go about and scan the ship wrecks and pick up any Meta-Alloys, Thargoid Probes, Thargoid Sensors, Occupied and Damaged Escape Pods, before flying off and leaving.

Quite the study, great work!

I've been curious about this for awhile, but here are two logograms from a feeding encounter. The first is the original "scavenger" that is in the instance, the second image is from the "friend" that warps in. (the original scavenger warps away).

There has been speculation (and I add my own), that these two thargoids in a feeding encounter may be different.

That's very interesting! From now on I will pay attention to the hull reading on the side panel (that's another way to encourage us to save markings from the side panel).

Did you see if the hull reading went up after it ingested MAs?

I'm looking at the hull reading of one of the second, feisty Thargoids I encountered (image below). The hull reading below the hologram on the left is 100%. Is that supposed to match the one on the left panel, or are they different somehow? Maybe only some of the second Thargoids that get called in have a lower hull reading.

This right here is the gold standard of screenshots.

Close cropped shots of the left hand contacts panel.

it helps if your ship is not under acceleration (or deceleration) so the camera isn't shifted.

Using a program like XNConvert makes it easy to batch crop all pictures acoordings to specification.

Quite the study, great work!

This is closer to my standard. The level I've been doing it. (I guess this would be the Silver Standard) It's very good and a good bar to reach.

Thank you! I think now I get the hang on how to scan them without annoying them - keeping the right distance! :D

Peaceful encouters in NonHuman USS (me in Cobra MK3, unarmed, no cargo, Xeno-Scanner) with scooping Thargs with following cyclops types: 2E-1, 1C-1, 7A-3

1C-1 is not yet in the google spread (it is, but it's a wrong picture to it) - becouse upload seems to fail .. I'll add it here:

edit: now the upload worked too.

hey there I noticed you uploaded to the drive a picture but it didn't seem to upload correctly. I see the picture here though.

It appears to be a 1C-3. There is a 1C-3 int he database.

Would you be open to taking screenshots from the contacts menu instead? the markings show up there in the larger format.

Ok, I'll make the pictures from the panel in the future.

The picture I posted is 1C-1 (two closed circles). There already is 1C-1 in the google-spread but the one there is wrong. Mine would be correct.

Maybe you can help me out, what specs are needed for a "correct" upload of the picture so google-drive will show it?

edit: I found a contacts panel version on my video archives - and upload workde - with an uncorrupted file this time : )

2E-3 (JonTomNom)
2D-1 (JonTomNom)
4G-1 (JonTomNom)
2C-2 (JonTomNom)
7A-1 (JonTomNom)
4G-2 (JonTomNom)
2B-2 (JonTomNom)
4B-3 (JonTomNom)
3A-2 (JonTomNom)

Scavengers helper (Found in NHSS, give to Thargoid scavanger 5 Meta-Alloys and it will call a second Thargoid, it releases an EMP, and proceeds to sniff around)
4H-1 (Cmdr Maligno)
3B-2 (Cmdr Maligno)
3A-1 (Cmdr Maligno)
2C-3 (Hyacinthus)

Barnacle harvester (Found at Barnacle site, jump in and harvest Barnacles)
1A-2 (From Barnacle forest, source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=30&v=0HXKLFDMg7o)

Mimics (Hyperdicts then mimics your moves, non agressive, you can take samples from them without being attacked)
4B-2 (evaldo10)
4D-2 (evaldo10)
1D-1 (ape808)

Hyperdictor
3B-1 (was hostile from the start according to evaldo10)
1A-1 (evaldo10, Both light grey, friendly, scannable and touchable and no hostility, no information about mimic so I put it here)
1B-1 (evaldo10, Both light grey, friendly, scannable and touchable and no hostility, no information about mimic so I put it here)

Rager
1B-1 (Some guys in the Canonn discord got attacked by a 1B-1 in a NHSS. They tried backing away and the goid just kept following them and eventually attacked)

?
4F-3 (evaldo10: during fight it hit me with something and I was overheating, used a heat sink it had no effect. I carried on overheating until 760 degrees and then logged. Everything just burnt out on me. It was white and and got angry when clipped)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seem to confirm that there is no correlation between marking and behavior/location. One mimic is found as scavenger, barnacle harvester is also found as scavenger, same with hyperdictor...
I'm now inclined to think that it's a rank, or simply a random decal!

Edit: I just noticed Hyperdictor always have a full inner circle. However we only have 3 reports so far so it's maybe a coincidence.
Need more hyperdiction reports ;)

If marking is relative to a rank, we can try to compare a fight between an 1D-2 and a 1C-1:

One possibility is that the more complete the circle, the more dangerous is the Thargoid.

Next up:

Make a custom logo and put it on the sides of our own ships and check if we can do the "fake logo on bee" thingy with the Thargoids.

That may allow us to travel deep into Klaxion territory and infiltrate their mother worlds. Collecting valuable research data before trying to escape back to the bubble with our precious data.

Maybe we find Klaxxor itself.

I think there may be something to this theory, but I noticed the reverse.

These confrontations were both at NHSS, individual ships.

This Cyclops was the first a tried to kill, I was getting hit a lot from it's anti system attack, but very little module damage. Only reason I had to bug out was because I ran out of missiles:

This Cyclops was my second attempt. This time I had to bug out because of multiple systems failure, having to reboot FSD twice before getting away.
It definitely dealt more damage to me than the first one, as well as giving chase when I wanted to get away:

You've done well. I made a mistake there. Thanks for correcting it. Your image is gold standard.

Also: chart updated: v2.2

I wasn't sure what some of your CMDR names were, so let me know and I'll change them over.

Did any of you see Arrival? Just let us know if you start experiencing the future....

Haha! yeah, the comparison has been made several times now, it's amazing...

@KospY: Since there are 3 inner markings and possibly up to 22 outer markings, we could have a total of 3x22=66 unique combinations. If there's no correlation between markings and behavior, then each of the behavioral categories will end up having 66 markings. There is much marking gathering to do!

@Silaz: Thanks for reporting your encounters. It'll be interesting to see if Thargoid "Lethality" correlates with the shapes of the inner and outer rings in the markings.

NP. I will try to do more of this, but right now it seems important to do the Aegis CG.

My theory would be that the inner rings are like castes, perhaps warrior, worker etc - with outer rings indicating rank, or as I read somewhere else; maturity.

Can't think how we could test whether it's the age of the being, but can test for aggression and ability in combat, which could be an indicator of experience from age.

The first page states "We know the center symbol is Oresrian on all Thargoid and barnacles that we have encountered", but there is no reference cited. Where does that statement come from? Do we actually "know" that symbol is Oresrian?

Not to attack anything, but I think we should challenge that assumption unless it is based on fact.

It might be useful to log if one was killed the date to see if it that symbol reappears. That might help to see if it is an individual ID and not just seeing the same ones.
