Has anyone received the rank progression mission in the last couple of weeks? I haven't no matter what I did (and I did tons of charity, courier work and pirate shooting/pirate lord assassination missions)...

Nope, and I'm trying really hard with the Feds atm.

Same here, working on Emp. It occured to me last night that I've been farming missions in Empire controlled space, to limit the impact on my Fed rank. I'm wondering if that's causing a problem? Rather than just doing missions in Empire-Dominated space, do I need to pop out and help their underdogs?

I'm pretty sure you need to be doing mission with the organizations associated with the Federation.

This worked nicely for me before. Do a couple missions here, a couple of missions here - and here you go, advancement opportunity. I got several ranks already. But it's been circa 2 weeks since I acquired my last rank and no advancement offers since then.

Just now I got an offer from a respectable business organization to kill a pirate lord and what do you know - Federation reputation decrease after the deed is done! I officially have no idea what is going on!

Just noticed an Imperial Minor is "friendly" with me while the Empire as a whole is "Allied".

So you must have done something wrong with them before. Maybe you had a bounty with them once or got fined for smuggeling illegal cargo. ;)

Of course. Kill missions are still illegal. When you have to kill an 'innocent' in a fed system the decrease in reputation is quite big. So I wouldn't recommend those missions. Only kill missions to take are those vs. Pirate Lords or 'real' criminals.

I did write he was pirate lord. In fact he was wanted so badly I got a bounty of over 300K at the system I killed him.

Still no wonder. You even lose a little rep when killing wanted ships. But just a little. Killing someone is alway bad publicity I guess.

But you always gain a lot of more Rep when handing in the mission. (same with bounties)

I'm just gonna add this here for future reference:

Ok further info from the same thread, posting it here as it seems the most relevant spot where we are all discussing this right now:

OK guys, let's clear this up since it seems I managed to get my wires crossed earlier.

Ranking up is not based on your reputation, so being allied 100% does not mean you should have access to everything and be King etc. It's based on the amount of 'work' (missions, trading etc) you do for the faction in question.

Ascension missions are in the game still. This is still how you progress from one rank to another.

In most cases when a player feels that they are not making progress, they just need to continue doing work for the faction and the mission will be granted in time. For example, we can see on the back end here that zentoruk is pretty close to a rank up and just needs to keep at it.

I hope that's a little clearer and sorry for the confusion!

After doing enough trading and/or missions, you should trigger the Ascension mission, which should give you the rank up.

If strange stuff is happening like gaining ranks for the wrong faction, try to keep as much information about it as you can and open a ticket with us. :)

Cheers,

So yes, naval missions are still in-game and no, they have zero to do with reputation with a faction either minor or major. It is simply a mission, trade or bounty grind for a particular faction that triggers the ascension mission.

Tetra, I missed this and am much obliged to you.

FD, pfft find another hamster for this particular wheel.

Thanks for the info! Why do we even need this 14 pages of guesswork for half year if they had written that one sentence in the manual?!

Interesting... but you guys should also note this one: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=162080&page=3&p=2472046&viewfull=1#post2472046

Apparently there IS a bug that prevents naval ascension missions from appearing.

Aye i saw that, but the previous one linked was from today. One would presume both people are talking to each other before posting?

Otherwise we have one person at HQ saying 'no it's fine' and another at HQ saying 'no it's bugged'.

The whole thing is shambolic.

Quite frankly, it's this that I'm becoming sick and tired of, trying to peek through the fog-of-war on the forums to try and figure out the actual state of play with this game. Can we have one Official simply bloody speak up and clarify what needs to be clarified, having spoken to all relevant parties before posting?

So what IS the current state of naval ascension missions? Right after the last patch deployed i was able to complete one (that i had earned before the patch, i.e. had infinite naval missions everywhere that did nothing) and it did increase my rank. But after that, nothing. Nada. I've seen people posting elsewhere they're still getting missions that don't rank them up, and i've seen people here say they're not getting missions at all. Any official word on this?

Well, that might d*mn well explain why I've not seen any progression missions past 'Outsider' with over 300 missions done. And my friends told me there was no bug. They get to eat lasers now.

For some it seems to work for others not.
I counted the missions and i did 50 missions to get the naval ascension mission to rank up from master to squire (halfway around those 50 missions i got allied with the empire).
And i got the Achenar System Permit after ranking up to Squire (not Master)

Hey,

I have been working on getting to baron, and I am sitting at lord right now in the empire, but since I am allied with the empire, rep gain has been really, really, slow because I am already allied . Is there a way for me speed up the process, or should i pull my rep with the empire back down to friendly somehow?

Also, every so often my influence with one or more minor factions in a system just randomly drops. Is this for any reason or just a bug? I'm not quite sure how much it drops but it could be enough to stop my progress.

Thx

Arrgh,

Getting so confused. Can someone please put me out of my misery. Is it simply a case of keep doing missions for empire factions and I will eventually get an ascension mission? or is there more to it. Can I stay in the same place or do I have to move on to a different minor faction from time to time?

Thanks

Is there any change to this? Any new 'news' It's so convoluted and frustrating. It makes me want to quit playing and go outside...
