I know about the thread listing ridiculous NPC names (Smurplorg Borpleeglek takes the cake for me). What I'm interested in is what inane/eye-rolling/tinfoil-chewing names have you given your own ships? And why?

Over time my ship names have dropped any pretense of seriousness. I have two favourites these days. First, the Vulture I'm still struggling to inflict damage with. Given that it's more irritating to opponents than actually threatening, I've named it Der Weinersmacken. Second is the speed courier I built for running like hell in open. No pretenses about what this thing's for; it's painted yellow and named Yipe! Yipe! Yipe! Yipe!

My 3rd corvette & current CZ ship is called "Bat". Named by a wingmate for my tendency to boost turn into NPCs (and occasionally, accidentally wingmates :D) & knock them for six.

Having developed a taste for Culture novels over the years, I have gone for punny or some sort of double entrendre when possible:

Bubble taxi Cobra Mk III: "XB981", the little sister to Laurelline and Valerian's XB982.

Clandestine "research" limpet extravanganza Cobra Mk IV: "Burro", as a friendly two-finger salute to all the Rocinantes out there.

AX T-10: "Old Dog". But as she never grew a large host of missile batteries, I might rename her "Late to the Party".

Res/CZ Corvette: "Precautionary Approach".

Mining, and sometimes trading, Python: "Adaptive Management".

Exploration Krait Mk II: "Mariposa", which pretty much sums up my route planning.

Memorial for my little commander

A few days ago my daughter's 11 year old body succumbed under the strain of the fight against cancer. She was brave and wonderful and could have fought forever if it was up to her spirit. I wanted to post this to help myself heal, to thank fdev for the game that has granted me so much relief...

I have "Mr. Blue Sky" AspX as a fueler ship, and "Magic Fly" Dolphin as explorer.
Alongside of this, non-songs-named, my Assault Ship named "Crossbow" and Krait named "Longbow" as they are my pair for both human and AX fighting.
My Mamba is named "Jambo" after the "mumbo-jumbo". Asp Scout named "Bugfix" as it supposed to do hack missions.

Also, a Phantom named Commodore, because it looks like the Grandmaster's ship from Thor Ragnarok
