Your fleet?

My... what?

Be amazed!

Vulture [Reaper] => Main ship for Res farming, CZs, PvP, flying around aimlessly...
Eagle Mk.II => little test-project to see what I can do with that, merely keeping it for it's design and because it's Core Dynamics :D

quite big fleet eh? x)

Fleet size is not relevant for a person who knows what s/he wants. Choice of ship is.

- Sidewinder - Genesis One ( my first ship)
- Eagle - Spartan One ( my first combat ship)
- Eagle - Spartan Two
- iEagle - Aetius
- Viper MKIII - Aries
- Cobra MKIII - Achilles (high speed taxi and mission runner)
- Diamondback Scout - Terminus (combat)
- Diamondback Scout - Athena (longrange scout)
- iCourier - Meridius
- Vulture - Ursus
- iClipper - Praetorian
- FDL - Icarus
- Python - Odysseus
- Anaconda - SSV Requiem ( My do-it-all ship)
- iCutter - SSV Castor (My combat carrier)

They are all engineered up to a certain point.
Just a couple of combat ships are max engineered.

Interesting responses and I guess it's not just me. [up]

I really hadn't thought about this when I made this thread but I suspect there's 2 kinds of people who play ED; there's "pilots" and "engineers".

Pilots are people who want to do stuff so they build a ship and then they go out and do stuff in the ship they've built.
Engineers are people who get their jollies in the process of building the ship, itself.

For the engineers amongst us, every ship is a new challenge and finding something to do with the end-result is almost secondary.

I think you've really hit the nail on the head here, same way you have drivers and mechanics when it comes to cars. Elite is a great game that allows you to do both. The level of ships customisation is quite unique to Elite, and I don't think I can recall another game I've played where you really had to analyse the parts you put on a vehicle and how they're configured as much.

I'll be very happy when I eventually own multiple variations of .... EVERYTHING

My fleet is currently;

1x Cobra MkIII (doesn't get used much)
1x Diamondback Scout (Mostly my wake scanner ship)
1x Imperial Courier (will be my troll-troller when it's done! Currently just a canyon runner)
1x Diamondback Explorer (Bubble Taxi and short range explorer)
1x Imperial Clipper (Because I didn't hate the first one enough - enroute to be stripped and sold, again)
2x Python (1 Mission runner, the other some odd explorer that I never use)
1x Anaconda (Does anything)

I could probably sell the odd Python, and i will be selling the Clipper.
Especially since I brought the 7A Prismatic shields for my Anaconda, and only just have enough for 1 rebuy. Lol

I also have a daft amount of modules in storage. Some I don't even know why I stored them. Lol

I need to spend more money.

2x Sidewinder
1x Eagle
1x Imperial Eagle
1x Cobra MKIII
1x Cobra MKIV
1x Asp
1x Dolphin
1x FdL
1x Imperial Clipper
1x Anaconda

I used to have a Python and a T9 but dumped both.

Currently 3x Asp Explorers fill my needs:
X3-BZH - RV Bretagne - exploration
X3-2AL - MV Burcot Grange - miner
X3-KMR - Red Kate - GP ship for dabbling in CGs, etc.

Might go back to something with greter capacity if I revisit rares running but currently no plans to to that.

I've been going through my ships, trying to figure out what upgrades they need (and whether to flog them) and I started to wonder whether or not this is "normal" for an ED player.

My fleet of ships currently consists of the following (in no particular order):-

2 x Sidewinder (my first ship and the one I went to Sag A in)
3 x Hauler (taxis)
2 x Eagle (a racer and the one I first went to Hutton in)
1 x Imperial Eagle (data delivery ship)
2 x DBS (a scavenger ship and a ground attack ship)
1 x Viper 3 (my first RES-hunting ship)
1 x Viper 4 (the ship that earned me my Cutter)
1 x Cobra 3 (Just cos...)
2 x Imperial Courier (rare trading and something sneaky)
1 x Asp Scout (somebody had to buy one)
2 x DBX (bubble-hopper and experimental explorer)
1 x Keelback (small tough trader)
1 x Python (armed trade-ship)
1 x Imperial Clipper (looked nice in the brochure)
5 x Asp Explorer (3 mission-miners, an explorer and my daily-driver)
1 x T9 heavy (big mining ship)
1 x Vulture (fer killin' stuff)
1 x FGS (fer killin' stuff that shoots back a lot)
1 x FdL (fer killin' stuff that tries to run away)
1 x Fed Corvette (WIP fer killin' every-'kin'-thing)
1 x Anaconda (WIP explorer)
1 x Imperial Cutter (space truck)
1 x Orca (cos I wanted to try passenger missions and the Dolphin looks like a flying bus)
1 x Beluga (cos I obviously didn't realise I don't like passenger missions after flying the Orca)

I think that's everything.

Is that normal or have I lost the plot? [where is it]

Yeap, lost the plot a good while back... I like to keep it simple :
Cutter (CG cargo runs)
Corvette (combat)
Anaconda (jump range 60ly for going seeing stuff)
Python (medium pad only systems)
Vulture (first combat ship)

That's it. Does me fine.

My fleet:

DBX (Bugaboo the Flea)
AspX (ZX Spectrum)

Cutter (Manic Miner)
Beluga (Jet Set Willy)
Anaconda (Sabre Wulf)
Corvette (Knight Lore)
Python
I also have several small ships dotted about, some of which I've not even seen (got them included).

I have two.

one on the left and one on the right
I have labelled them L & R on the name plates so as I remember which is which

O... fleet, sorry.

Vette (Double Penetration) - Hardcore PvP warship engineered to the nines.
Conda (Lexi Leigh) - CG hauler heavily engineered to bait gankers.
AspX (Bubble Bobble) - For getting around, scans and surface mat prospecting. Fairly light pimpage.
Python (Godzilla) - Another heavily engineered ship designed for PvE blasting and collecting space mats.
FdL (Dirty Bird) - Work in progress, kinda given up on it to be honest.

1 x Asp Explorer (Star Moth) : My Distant Worlds explorer. Take it out occasionally when I need jump range at any cost.
1 x Vulture (The UnWanted): Bounty-hunter. Only good for combat and little else.
1 x Python (Dead Reckoning): Surface scavenger, mission runner etc.
1 x T-7 (If I Die Before I Wake): Cargo hauler. CG runner. Weapon fodder.
1 x FAS (unnamed): bigger badder Vulture (see above)
1 x FDL (unnamed): newly bought, don't know how to outfit or engineer it. Don't want to fly it as it's the ship everyone flies, but the cockpit is sooooo nice and it sound great. :(

Not really sure I want to own many more ships. It's kinda ruining my "you're just an average schmo, trying to make his way in a cut-throat galaxy" vibe. More like "you're just an average schmo.. trying to figure out how to keep his multi-billion credit fleet organised...."

I have a small fleet.

Imperial Courier - currently in dry dock for a roll refit once I can be bothered to tolerate the RNgineering grind again. :(

Diamondback Explorer - deep space explorer with 54 light year base jump.

Python - Armed passenger and medium pad cargo ship.

Anaconda - Armed mining ship. Two mining lasers lots of turrets and, one huge multi-cannon.

Imperial Cutter. 712 tonne bulk freighter. No weapons, just massive shields and the second fastest ship in my fleet.

Federal Corvette - Bounty hunter and 160 toone precious goods (mainly meta alloy) hauler.
