YOUR name in Elite! Tourist Beacon competition

My submission: an Earth-Like World with a 90º axial tilt.

This kind of planet features unique day-night and seasonal cycles:

During the solstices:
  • The sun is directly overhead one of the poles. And the equator sees a continuous sunset (or sunrise), with the sun being stationary.
During the equinoxes:
  • The equator sees half day, half night, with the sun directly overhead at noon. The poles see a continuous sunset (or sunrise), with the sun moving 360 degrees around the horizon.
In between the solstices and equinoxes:
  • At the poles, just after equinox the sun either moves below the horizon or starts circling further above the horizon, until it reaches directly overhead at solstice.
  • At the equator, the sun, which was stationary at solstice, starts to make progressively larger circles (dipping below the horizon half the time). The circle expands moving progressively along the sky (crossing the midpoint at equinox). Then begins contracting on the other side after the solstice, until it reaches the other end of the sky at the next solstice and is stationary that day.
In summary:
  • Both poles have half a year of daytime and half of nighttime. However, during solstices the sun is directly overhead one of the poles while there is a full night at the other, unlike in Earth, in which the maximum elevation of the sun at the poles is ±23.4° (the Earth's axial tilt).
  • At the equator, days always last for a rotation of the planet (0.9 Earth days), but the elevation of the sun changes from just over the horizon during solstices to being overhead at noon during equinoxes.
This planet presents a mystery to planetologists and climatologists, as it is sure that its climate is as unique as its cycles. From space, we can see that its poles have large ice caps while the equator is full of water and life, implying that the equator is hotter than the poles.

The name of the planet makes reference to the planet looking like a white-blue-black tricolor flag during solstices.

HIP 52455 A3

Cmdr Name: Hedganian

System Name: HIP 52455

HIP 52455 A3 is a ringed ELW in binary orbit with HIP 52455 A2, a ringed Class 3 gas giant with 7 moons (the bright white oval just below the ELW's rings in the screenshot). Along with HIP 52455 A1, another Class 3 gas giant with 7 moons, they orbit the Class A blue-white supergiant primary star of a trinary system with 31 total planets/moons and 2 asteroid belts.

Imagine living on that planet, looking up at the sky and seeing the majestic rings overhead and all those suns, planets and moons performing their own celestial ballet every night...

I present to you the BLU THAI TT-A D0 ( Planet A 6 )

Now.... I know! Some of you may be quick to remark that this is in fact not an earth like planet.

I beg to differ. Bear with me.

First of all it's spherical in appearance. Just like earth. And it's in the milky way. Well. Maybe not in the milky way. But close anyhow!

The crust is mostly rock. 80% nitrogen / 14% Oxygen atmosphere. Breathable after some climatization. As for the remaining carbon dioxide. Good for the plants. It' is almost equal in size to earth. The planet has a moon which could very well pass for Luna's twin sister. The planets gravity slightly increased perfect for free extra exercise. Temperatures may be experienced as somewhat Siberian. Or is that in Celsius... (Who cares!). Surface pressure would be familiar to our aquatic friends on earth so they would not need any water for that. It has clouds. And an almost perfect black sky due to the lack of neighboring stars.

Just look at those perfect slopes for ski-loving tourists. Krikketeers would love this place. And imagine the sunset of that triple star system.

PLOI AERB KG-Y C0 A 2 has a landable moon with beautiful "earthrise" views. Perfect for placing a tourist beacon on the surface.

Above is the competition "shot" for system with one ELW. From the same place are also below attached images. This system have only five planet and one sun, but local contrasts between dark space and lights of the distant Milky Way belt offers numerous beatiful views.

Holiday in the Milky Way

Holiday in the Milky Way.png

Submission by CMDR Asp_Bandit

System: Synuefe CI-J b42-3 (First discovered by CMDR Sod XII) approx. 750 Ly from Sol

This binary star system has an ELW located 109 Ls from the primary star. Most notably this system contains two notable interstellar phenomena POIs near the ELW. Many ancient humans were known for celebrating a holiday called "Christmas" in December with red and green ornaments. This system decided to celebrate this year-round with a rare combination of Praseum (red) and Flavinum (green) Metallic Crystals found in inter stellar space. What better way to celebrate holidays with loved ones by visiting these awe-inspiring Christmas crystals!

Note: This "nebula effect" is the dust from the POI containing these crystals, which is not present in Horizons. This effect really shows how Odyssey's graphics upgrades produces quite striking effects. Bravo F-dev!

A beautiful earthlike planet is orbiting not one but two black holes in their barycenter. The planet is less than 50 lightseconds away from annihilation. Never have life and death coexisted this close together

Cmdr Name: Alkibiades

Earth orbiting 2 black holes in their barycenter at a distance of less than 50ls
2 black holes and a neutron star in the same system
Ringed sun (radius about half of the galaxy record)
Sheppered moons

If thats not enough for a tourist beacon I dont know ....
Update it with a picture in-system, it's a requirement.

Greetings Commanders,

Explorers venture into the depths of space and discover beautiful systems that most will never see. We would like to offer you the opportunity to share your best discoveries and be immortalised in Elite Dangerous.

Our plan is to place approximately 50 additional Tourist Beacons throughout the Milky Way. Therefore, we’re running this competition in-line with this week’s exploration-based Community Goal.

To enter, reply to this post with an in-system (not System Map) screenshot of the most interesting unpopulated systems containing an Earth-like world you can find! When the Community Goal ends on 30 September, we’ll choose our favourites and add Tourist Beacons to those locations. Each beacon will feature the entrant’s Commander name in its text!

To qualify, submissions must:
  • Feature a screenshot of an unpopulated system in Elite Dangerous which contains an Earth-like world
  • Include your in-game Commander name
  • Include the name of the screenshotted system
Note: Only one submission will be accepted per player. If you submit multiple screenshots, the last one will be considered your only valid entry. Entries after 14:00 BST on 30 September will not be counted. We reserve the right not to include any Commander names in Tourist Beacon text that we deem inappropriate.

While the system must contain an Earth-like world, it doesn’t have to be the focus of the image. Try to show off as many features as you can which make the system interesting and a strong potential tourist destination!

All winning entries will receive 5,000 ARX in addition to the Tourist Beacon, so get exploring!

Good luck

EVERLASTING FIREWORKS

The Scutum–Centaurus Arm is a long, diffuse curving streamer of stars, gas and dust that spirals outward from the proximate end of the Milky Way's central bar. This region of the galaxy is rich in star-forming regions and the system hosting this ELW is in the middle of a nebulae cluster.

At night the sky seen from this lovely ELW is filled with colorful nebulae in every direction, clearly visible with naked eyes, resembling a neverending fireworks show.

The comfortable location of the system, 1,382 Ly from Caravanserai along the highway to Colonia, makes this destination a popular stop for tourists and a favourite honey moon choice for just married couples seeking for unforgettable romantic nights.

THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR

This system in Arcadian Stream region is found during the DSSA-Expedition in 3306. It hosts a rare set of binary ringed ELWs (planets 7 & 8); planet 7 also has a landable moon. This constellation is named after a forgotten song of some forgotten ancient rock band on Earth in 20th century.
