Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

What's the difference between "Legacy Horizons" and "Legacy Elite Dangerous"? Was under the impression that Horizons was available to all base game players. Could be wrong

Don't suppose there's any chance of a "Legacy: Odyssey"?
If only!

If you're on PC, Horizons 3.8 became "legacy" mode, while if your computer can handle it, you can choose to play Horizons and or Odyssey on the 4.0 engine, both of which are now"live" mode.

If you're on console, you only have the "choice" to play normal "old" Horizons, which is the same as PC 3.8...

Unfortunately Frontier have shown zero interest in releasing 4.0, Odyssey and "live" mode on "next gen" consoles, which would surely have no problem playing them, or even adding whatever they can to "last gen" consoles and PC 3.8!! 😯😂😀🤘

And it's also why they needed to add a recovery option to the 4.0 client when splitting it from Legacy, since that split removed the option to use this fix.

I just spent an age in the Live game (both Odyssey and Horizons) and I could not find this "recover to orbit" option. The only thing I could do was restart in Horizons if I was on an Odyssey planet - that gave the "safe location" message and launched me in-ship in orbit. Nowhere could I find a way to recover to "safe location" (orbit) when in SRV on a Horizons planet (in both Odyssey and Horizons games).

Did I miss anything or has this function gone the same way as them coding a "save as" button in Options / Controls?

You need to be in the main menu, that means, not in-game, to use this feature.

legacy mode has no on foot mission. so iti is pointless. same horizon legacy
I have to disagree, if it was pointless I wouldn't have thousands of in game hours into EDH doing all the non foot missions ? As it stands EDH has still all those things we all loved and played( it hasn't changed ) ok it won't get any new stuff or fixes or updates but that was a forgone conclusion after Consolegate .

Kudos FD

I no longer have to clear System Connector lines in the Galaxy Map every time I re-enter EDO

One down

Hope that was intentional ...

I'll take it either way

Frontier Store.
Yes.
PC IIRC.
Interesting - it might be the one game in the series that I want to try playing on PC 😯😂 ...

Also Kudos to Frontier if they keep such games playable on modern systems, I thought Egosoft were good keeping their first game from 1999 patched to play on modern PCs! 😀🤘

From what I could see from horizon 4.0 on my ancient computer, there is nothing a current console couldn't deal with. Ody may be difference, but there's no technical reason for not having EDH4.0 on console. It was just political. A matter of time. FD thought they must move forward now, and doesn't have time for codebase 4.0 on console, pi**ing off loads of console players.

ED3.8 & EDH3.8 can easily exist in the same universe, as we've learned from console. EDH4.0 and EDO4.0 can also, as seen in live. So why can't EDH3.8 and EDH4.0? Like it was in 3.8, EDH4.0 can obviously say "Odyssey needed for doing this" for EDH4.0 players which doesn't own Ody. This is all not about Ody, this is all only about Codebase 4.0!
