Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yeah it's not what I hoped; I still secretly wished it would be the tussocks from Andromeda or something and the Thargoids were just tracking it like we were. That seemed compelling.

But, it's pretty rare for being invaded to be what one hoped, I suppose.

SPACE MOLLUSKS BROKER PEACE DEAL

I thought I read somewhere that you could get real close to a star and it would cookoff the goo.
You just wanna ease into it as if you're scooping and go in ahhhhh and get on the system chat "Calgon, take me away!".

Found some interesting colored bacteria, easy to find.

Cool looking tussock.

I assume it was not in the bubble, cuz those are blocked.
Ah, might have been just inside the bubble, even though I had to go a few systems out to find unpopulated systems with planets. Pretty much every one I arrived at was only stars. Maybe the one I did get a first footfall on was outside, not sure.

I didn't know they were blocked but it didn't stop me from landing.

Not blocked from landing but blocked from being eligible for ‘First x’

Ah, Deja Vu. In the original Elite there was a scenario where you had to skim close to a star to get shot of all the cute little furry Trumbles that were breeding like rabbits inside the ship. I guess they were called "Trumbles" back then because "Tribbles" was copyright Star Trek. ;)

That was only in the cartoony Commodore 64 though. - Real BBC Elite-ers fart in the general direction of such frivolity...

The first time I'd ever seen or heard of Elite was when I saw a young relative of mine playing it on a BBC Micro, but I couldn't afford one of those at the time. Not long after that I bought a C64 and when Elite came out on it I rushed to a shop to buy it. So I was playing that along with other wonderful C64 games such as Impossible Mission. (y)

Imagination fills in the blanks...
Yeah, that's what I mean. I guess I used to have a better imagination.

Nowadays I can't stand playing games with cruddy outdated graphics, even games I used to enjoy. I booted up a copy of the original XCOM game recently, and I simply could not play it. But it was one of my favorites back in the day.

Old age petrifies the brain, maybe :p

Slowly heading towards a tiny tiny patch of cactoida...

Which turned out to be an absolutely huge fold in the terrain.

Don't think I'll spend much longer out here (all of 15 jumps from the bubble), really I'm just curious what payout I can get from a little casual scanning now 😸

When it comes to Elite back in 84/5, I think we're looking through rose tinted glasses :D

Most of my memories are probably Frontier: Elite II... which is still primitive as heck by today's standards, but it ran on a 7MHz 32 bit cpu so... I think we can forgive it.

I miss my old imperial trader. With the hex edit that made it faster than a courier 😹

Aye, I played that one as well. I seem to recall that you could scoop fuel in it by skimming gas giants as well as stars.

I left the bubble in that one a couple of times to go out exploring beyond, but there really wasn't anything to find that was any different as I remember - apart from no stations to dock at...

Yes, some players/forumites have requested that feature in ED as well.

I never tried exploration in that game...mostly just delivery missions and as much combat as I HAD to do to stay alive...

Not so fast...I use my imagination every day with EDO...headcanon is a wonderful thing...stitches up glaring issue in no time...

I had forgotten all about that. But yes, I remember!
I used to play on the ZX Spectrum.
There was also the Gizka infesting the Ebon Hawk in the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic game. As always with that game, there was a light side and dark side way to deal with that situation.
