Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've hit upon a fast way to gain Federation rank in Imeut at the outpost there - Ampere Dock. Only two Federation factions, so missions are limited, but there is a mix of cargo space and passenger cabin space that can net you up to 26 rep+ points per round trip.
32t Cargo is enough, then fill with economy passenger cabins. No need to go without fuel scoop or shield as you can have both and still take all available missions with more than 1 rep.
Once you have taken the passenger missions, go to the regular mission board and take the Evacuate Wounded missions which are around 6 to 8 units of Occupied Escape Pods per mission. There are usually 4 missions like this between the two Federation factions.

I sorta saw the scout-killing mountain (what a bunch of wieners! are these really made by the same as big ones shooting stations? It's like I'm shooting yugos and then the next step goes up to combat tanks and destroyers). Flew halfway home and took the Apex the rest the way. That's the advantage of being the invaded versus the invader though. Close to home. Sorry that just is politically very insensitive joke in the 21st century but OK in the 34th.

You're soaking in it, oh wait, that's a different one.

And whatever you're soaking you glass in, once it's clean just be sure to top it up with Indi Bourbon.

Hey we maybe could cash in if we start shilling some actual 34th century products. Hmm I like where this is going and believe me, I can really smell a credit (1 CR)!

Although I suppose it was pretty cool at the time...

Wireframe view would be a great option in the modern version. Cut down on glare or get the outline on approaching dark bodies.

Not your glasses, that was a pretty rosy 3D game. For example, I was playing King's Quest at the time where the 3d is plodding 2d over a series of leaned-back looking bitmaps. But hey my game had the better ground game. Apples and oranges in the third dimension

I'm still out taking advantage of the current Exobiology payouts. No nerf yet! :)

Must be beginner's luck. Just won a high CZ - and that was after LOSING a medium. :geek:

Whatever, I think I'd better get out there from some more exo while the going is good (even after that other huge lot I got the other day after my long exploration trip.) I'm still only at Elite 1. 😛

If I remember correctly - and I may well be wrong here as it was a while ago - I think it was "wire frame graphics with full hidden line removal". I think they call it "occlusion" now.
I can remember attending a home computing show in the mid-late 80s where FDev had a stand with Elite running. They were keen to showcase their hidden line removal graphics. It was revolutionary at the time. Nothing else on the market like it. It's possible it was David Braben I saw, but I'll never know for sure

A rather christmassy methane world not far from the bubble. Plentiful biology (fumerola), and a lot of grade 3-4 materials. Down side, a lot of them get shot into space because the geysers they're on never actually stop.

I left the bubble in that one a couple of times to go out exploring beyond, but there really wasn't anything to find that was any different as I remember - apart from no stations to dock at...

I tended to abuse the distance bug, where the range calculator clearly had an integer overflow and you could jump like 16,000 light years at a time 😹 But I don't recall any real reason, and after a while every earthlike world looked much the same. Sure we could land on them but they were just green and blue triangles.

The little white orb reminds me of The Prisoner...

Seeing as how exobio payments are still rather good... here I am back on a horrible scary ammonia planet.

Thankfully, the next one had a calm atmosphere and some nice pale salt flats that were great for driving.

And lots of trees.

Insert some sort of joke about a poorly behaved dragon.

This last one was particularly nice. Good driving over a sandy desert, all 5 bio signs present in high density within a 2km radius of touchdown.

Couldn't quite get all 5 in shot, but did manage 4. The aleoida on this planet look an awful lot like the tussocks, to the point I accidentally overwrote my data and had to scan them twice.

There were other planets, but they were less photogenic. At this point, I have lost any hint of completionism, and am not wasting time on uncooperative worlds. If there's nothing to be found within a short buzz of two drop sites, I'm gone again. There are enough planets out here that have good and easy gathering that there is no need to waste time on the ones where there's a single fungus hiding in a gulley.

Put some new paint and ship kit on my exploration T6:

Random shot of some exobiology:

My Vista Genomics shopkeeper is rather terse. I arrive at the counter and I'm greeted with a rather perfunctory "Yes?".
I say that I have data and would she like it?
She says "Computer says no" *

Unperturbed, I hand over the data for a tidy sum:

* Apologies to my American cousins who may not get the reference. It's a "character" from "Little Britain".

Found a geologically active moon around a water world with three biosigns, lets see what we can see.

These things were pretty interesting, some kind of bucky balls.

Here's a close up, there's an orange ball wrapped inside a jelly ball, strange.

Bacteria, I'm of the opinion that bacteria will win the war for us, bioweapons, ya.......
