Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hmmm its hard to find materials on surface now in Ody...? Thought it was Ody specific bug, but fired EDH, still nothing show on the SRV scanner around edges of craters....
I came to the conclusion a while back that the SRV wave scanner is pretty much a waste of space in Ody and now EDH Live is the same anyway. Just pick up whatever get's targeted when you're driving around looking for salad as on some bodies stuff like outcrops, meteorites and so on pop up quite a bit and although you'll mostly get common grade stuff, you'll get some higher grade stuff as well.

Other than that, just target the crystalline clusters that pop up on the geo bodies as those are where you'll get quite a bit of high grade mats. Or of course, you can also go to where the crystalline shards are that drop loads of high grade.

I really like this gameplay, and it's very easy to spot the triangular socket of the pylon from above, an Artemis with increased jump and speed shines for this. Yes I agree it would be great if you could collect the guardian mats when on foot.
I was using a G5 Maverick with boosted jump and sprint endurance - Artemis with same would no doubt be even better - also a good idea to pick a fairly low-grav location. The larger sites involve quite a bit of running about, so without enhanced sprint/jump it’s probably better to drive the longer distances. Still, activating pylons on foot is sheer pleasure compared to SRV imo - never been a fan of the turret, which i find kinda fiddly ;p

…the enhanced jump is also recommended for slugging it out with sentinels - it’s easier to avoid their fire by getting above them than strafing really - tho nb: their weak point is the exposed channel on their underbelly ;]

I must be abusing my cutter.

The optional slots are taken up with cargo racks, limpet controllers and an FSD booster. It positvely reeks of platinum, painite and osmium. There's a bit of a serendibite to the nose and a lingering taste of occupied escape pods on the palette.

Luxury it ain't :D
One requires a separate Cutter for mining to really reach the upper crust, of course. But Quain is a bit odd in that he'd rather reoutfit the one of each ship type he has for different tasks than have multiple of the same ship. The only exception is the small Colonia fleet where a second Python and Krait MKII resides.

Yep, these are teh gold minez :]

I refer the honourable member to my last reply. ;)

Note though that I agree raw prospecting can seem much more sparse in EDO.

BTW - Needle crystals are the geo "bits" that give the highest grade mats.

Hmmm ... When I was on the body with Brain Trees, after I'd scanned a couple I went to scan another and the "Warning - different species will be discarded" blah blah message popped up and I wondered "what's happening here?" - then realised that even though there was only the one bio signal for Brain Trees there were actually at least TWO different varieties present- the purple ones that I was scanning and green ones that I hadn't yet scanned. So after I'd scanned the third purple one I started on the green ones and got three of those as well.

So even after you've scanned all three samples of any particular species, it's still possible there's at least one more variety of that same species on the same body waiting to be found, but you've no way of knowing this unless you happen to come across another variety, because you only get the one bio signal after you've done the mapping. So I'd say that FDev needs to improve this by giving more than just the one bio signal if more than one variety of the same species is present.

... wavescanner worked just fine ...
Yes, it will work in as much as you'll get a signal for any outcrops or meteorites etc that happen to pop up in Ody or EDH LIve, but these will appear as targets anyway if any are present, without needing the wave scanner. If these targets begin to appear, you can also go into contacts in the left-hand panel where they will be listed and you can target them from there if you wish.

I've found that in Ody, hoping to find targets in ordinary rocks with the wave scanner just does not happen, as it did in the old Horizons and I guess now only in the legacy one.

I'm still playing in Legacy, but I don't remember that ever happening.
I've not played Legacy since Update 14 came in - in fact I haven't even bothered to download it, so I don't know how it behaves. In the old Horizons though, (ie before the name was changed to "Legacy,") the wave scanner would give signals for anything that might be present in any of the many ordinary rocks lying around and you could get various mats from those. In fact there's several prospecting videos around from the time of the old Horizons, showing how it was possible to do that.

In Ody though, even though the wave scanner will sometimes give signals for ordinary rocks, you'll never see any targets pop up if you drive towards them because there are never any mats there. The only actual targets you'll get are from outcrops, meteorites and so on and on the geo bodies from lava spouts etc as well.

You have got to be joking.

The wavescaner detects meteorites and outcrops from MUCH further than the range they appear in the "radar screen".

Seriously, your first comment is daft and the last sentence is complete nonsense.

I think you are playing a different game to me.

FWIW, I've found up to 3 different types of brain trees in the same location.

Oh well, looks like we must be playing different games then as I never get any mats from ordinary rocks in Ody, even when signals appear to come from them in the wave scanner. That's the point I'm making - ie you will NEVER get any mats from ordinary rocks in Ody, as you could in the old, pre Update 14 Horizons.

As for the scanner having greater range, that might well be the case but as I'm usually looking for bios I don't even notice what signals the wave scanner might be giving and don't notice the targets until they pop up. As for the geo bodies, all the lava spouts, fumaroles and geysers etc are visible anyway without needing the wave scanner to find them and any mats they might contain will soon pop up as targets anyway.
