Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

I also noticed this, and then I scanned one cyclops, and later when we killed it, mission was completed. Like, by scanning you prove it's a cyclops.

You or somebody in your team (regardless of whether the mission is shared with them) has to get the final shot on an interceptor in order for it to count towards a mission.
This is how thargoid missions have always been.
I dunno which is worse, having to scan the the thing with the current xeno scanner implementation, or wasting the time to find and do the fight alone...

I guess in the interest of the war effort, I will just quit this mission, stay away from this kind of missions, and focus on getting the bar moving.

I doubt very much that the Xeno scanner makes any difference; mission credit in general just requires that the final strike came from your Wing (as do Bounty vouchers as well). Definitely skip fiddling with missions if it is not going to complete, though note also that some additional fiddling to form said Wing could bring missions into scope and push the progress further—not that we can be sure whether that time overhead is worthwhile, of course.

PSA: Anyone taking passenger evacuation missions ending up at Tarach Tor be advised up to 4 gankers working there. Blown up twice; once on arrival and once departing before I could get clear of the station mass-lock. FDL and Chieftan. Wing-up or go solo in that system.
Additionally, note that SPEAR might appreciate some fresh targets!
Actually, I was fighting off a bunch of NPC's that wanted to steal some of the lifepods I had (for some nefarious reason) so I wasn't able to respond to them, but they did warn me off about the gankers there. Hats off to them. I've bookmarked their page for future reference, thanks.

I had this problem too. seemed about 50:50 if it counted or not. Thanks for the info Ned. makes sense I guess. so with that in mind it makes sense to wing up I guess then if you see another commander.
While either I am missing something in the mission mechanics, or some missions are bugged.

I took a mission to kill a single (1, uno) Cyclops in an Invasion system, and I'm in a port instance, Cyclopes are dropping left and right, I'm getting the 8mil every time, but the mission fails to register that one kill I need for it to complete.

Or am I supposed to do the hunting completely alone?

Building a Dolphin* for passenger and casualty evacuation - can't decide on PD mod - charge enhanced or engine? Leaning towards charge since engine cuts system recharge etc and might need that for shutdown neutraliser. Any thoughts?

* 'Cos of small stations and 'cos I don't have one already.

The only reason I know ever to use Engine focused is for the capacity, if you want to equip a Power distributor which is otherwise too small for boost to work at all. If your Power distributor is already enough for the boost, and will still be enough after applying Charge enhanced, get Charge enhanced.

That said, it should be quite rare that you would need to stop a Shutdown field if you are just running evacuations. The neutraliser is great to have, but ultimately it can be sacrificed if supporting it would be too onerous, and one just accepts that the response to an Energy surge is simply to boost and disable Flight assist.

Friend of mine does these in a dolphin with virtually no engineering. She does have the fsd boosted and that's about it so far as I know.

No need to overthink or be perfect to be successful.

I'm going to base myself near or at HIP 20485. Mainly due to it having two space ports and it's low down the list meaning I get two/three+ nights there without having to do waste time jumping cos the system is almost complete.

Victory in Yemaki! Quite the surge at Vogulu (74%) where I am positioned at the moment, while the eviction in Hyades Sector EQ-O b6-3 (54%) has paused. I imagine it will resume this evening, though if anyone around M. Taranis is just looking for a fight then a bit of support there would not go amiss.

Good plan! Even if it looks a bit lacking in the short list above, I can say that all of those are within a cautious estimate this cycle. HIP 20485 is ninth projecting 1228%, which should be a quite safe bet by several systems' worth of activity.

I'd say HIP 20485 is in good hands looking at the CMDR activity though I'm unsure what awaits me there.

Popped over to Trianguli Sector GG-Y c18 today - sinces it’s only a single jump from Vukurbeh.

Surface port Bowell Holdings (er …) is under attack so spent some time racking up some more kills there. There were quite a few CMDRs around by the end of it so I wonder if we might make some progress there?

Mostly Scouts and Cyclops’ but one Medusa rocked up … took it slow, take out a heart … boost away to repair and collect my thoughts … then back in for the next. Had to go repair after 4 of the 6 hearts were down ‘cause I messed up and took a bunch of damage from both it and some surrounding Scouts … then back out there, cleaned out the Scouts and finished the Medusa off.

Good hunting to anyone else who was there: I was the nutter in the FAS who kept head-butting the Murder Flowers!! o7

From the main list at the top, mind that Trianguli Sector GG-Y c18 was 16th. It was also only projecting 1468% (needs 1600–1700%), so I do not expect that one to finish and would not recommend it to somebody looking for a good target. I will never tell you not to fight there, though!

Fair enough - I didn’t have long and all the top targets were 150LY+ away!!! Had been fighting in Namaya before that but it got done whilst I was snoozing. 😂

Yeh … just need to make sure you boost UP when trying that at planetary ports … I’ve been slammed into the ground when not getting enough vertical and being hit by the shutdown field … 90%+ hull to ~30% … ouch!!

Since it's starting to become obvious that taking back controlled systems isn't a completely lost cause (for unpopulated ones at least), maybe it's time to implement a long-term strategy for protecting specific regions of space: spend one week clearing out nearby alerts and invasions, and the next week reclaiming nearby control systems.
In other words:
Week A: prevent the thargoids from gaining new territory
Week B: reduce the thargoid's exisiting territory, preventing them from retriggering the same alerts/invasions (assuming they are tied to control systems). Unfortunately it looks like that will just redirect them to expand in a different direction, but it's a possibility to steer them away from the bubble / out of PMF-heavy areas.

Do we know if losing human ships has any negative impact? I mean, I've been going full "death or glory" and ramming them at full boost if it looks like a rebuy is near, but is that harming the war effort?

that was a shame. in with an experinced group and took down loads of low level interceptors. the instance ran dry so flew to hand in 100 mil of vouchers. came back and dropped into a different instance, 1 other player. 2 hydras dropped in..... would have been doable with the players in the 1st instance i think (little thanks to me) but we did not stand a chance. i could not even get 1 heart out.

Hydra’s are a PAIN. I very excitedly thought I’d got one earlier today but the bond was only 40 million so must have been a Medusa.
