Is Elite Dangerous a dead game? I compared it to some others ...

I am unsure if I should find this slightly offensive ;).

It's not just OA. All of the YT content creators' audiences thrive on being fed negativity at the worst or serious backseat development at best. Everyone of the creators knows so much better how to develop the game and constantly pushes that agenda ("FDEV bad"), because in general their YT audience (at least the part that is counted as "engaged" by the algorithm) demands being told how bad Frontier is at developing and running their game. In the end, they all are slaves to the algorithm, by which they open themselves up to being criticized. Criticizing what people say or do isn't the same as "hating".
That's simply not true. We can even stick with OA as an example. Watch any of the earlier Elite videos and you'll struggle to find a single bad word about the game or Frontier.

Frontier benefited immensely in the early days from his free PR. It's not a coincidence the community picked the name Obsidian Orbital when given the chance to name a station (contrary to what some say, it wasn't OA himself who requested that name out of hubris).

The hope is still alive that Frontier will turn things around and Elite Dangerous will still be going strong in 10 years.
Ooooops only 5 years upkeep on my 3 FC's (just checked PS, PC Legacy and PC Live), so will have to put another 5Bln in each budet!

But it has been made obvious that the debate is not about historic content. Hadn't you noticed?
I guess "all YT content creators" or "everyone [...] constantly pushes that agenda" confused me.
Perhaps the inference is regarding those who consider themselves "content creators"?
(I make youtube videos, but am certainly not a "Content Creator" or "Influencer" or even a "Streamer"... I also never ask anyone watching to give me money, common among the majority of youtubers I do watch - and no, I don't give them money either)

You can say that about most U tubers ..
For me
Burr ( look its getting better yay for Fdev)
OA ( it's gotten somewhat better but ....)
D2EA ( a new exploit ?? )
Yamiks ( ********** 🐴 )
Those were the 4 I watched for balance before the split .
It's all about personal opinion at the end of the day. Bashing people for their views ( and yes I did this as a few will remember) because it doesn't align with yours is what keyboard warriors do, especially when annoyed .
If you don't like someone's view scroll on by . If you haven't got anything nice to say then don't .

He is writing about the current videos, not historical ones.

I unsubscribed two years ago from them all because I found the constant speculation on not much information at all, general negativity on the game, coupled with the youtube comments downright hostility to FDev, unbearable.

I'm much happier for not watching this youtube stuff.

Nice balance...
Buur is fine, he & Rheeney appear to find the fun in this game, and make amazing video too.
OA used to be interesting for me.
D2EA - a curious one - some of his content has been useful for me.
The Yamiks - I watched one of his streams a while back - lasted about 2 minutes before I left - never been back.

I'm more likely to watch videos on photography or astronomy these days - they are a refreshing difference to the ED 'names'
For ED I drift toward content by Tigger (whose forum name escapes me currently) & The Riz... They also seem to find content in ED more than adequate.

Two years? How could it be that elite is struggling since two years? Let me guess? Ahh I get it, the release of EDO and some real issues with the behavior about the development of elite.

I mean come on guys are some of you really so blinded to ignore the truth?

They have lost OA, the Yamikes, Drew wagar and D2EA as big content creators, (Drew wagar is a special kind of creator) I mean look at the history of all of them, or cmdr. Psycat (skunkworks) they all had elite a long time as their maincontent, but now?

So ask why? Why are guys and girls which was so full in love with elite change their direction and starting with other games (Star citizien, Stellaris and so on). Because they are all badsayers and they the elite yadayada?

I guess it’s the fact that elite has take some serious hits for his reputation.

Therefore, except the Yamikes (who was hyperbolic), they was just hones with their opinion.

I mean what is the reason for bashing OA? Because he is not only candying FDEV and didn’t accept that we had a Product which is plaqued by issues since EDO arrived?

It seems to be more than clear that some guys in here, no Matter what, had sunflowersglasses on and accept a gameexpansion which breaks the community in half, brings tons of issues and so on. (Yeah Thanks for the new stuff) Yes I sound at the moment salty, but I’m not salty any more, I still play the game but it had issues and OA points this at some Videos out. Other content creators change their focus, so speaks for itself.

That's irrelevant. His blanket statement pretty much came down to ALL Youtubers ALWAYS thrive on negativity, and :poop: on everything, because drama leads to clicks and money. I disagree.

It's perfectly possible that OA has been stating his honest belief 5 years ago and still does so now. Maybe his overall opinion of the game has changed in the meantime.

This is entirely off-topic by now, but I thought that bringing in the specific example would be interesting:

It's not a coincidence the community picked the name Obsidian Orbital when given the chance to name a station (contrary to what some say, it wasn't OA himself who requested that name out of hubris).
"The community", as in "a bit over two thousand votes on a forum poll". It was a forum vote of a bunch of names hand-picked by Frontier from earlier suggestions. I dug up the old poll, you can find it here. Funny how out of the 15, "Obsidian" and "Ryder" were in 2-2 choices, making up almost a third of the possible options.

Personally, I think it was a bad idea to include any real persons in the first place, but what's done is done. In the long run, FD doing player groups favours came to bring more negativity than positivity. (See a number of later examples.)

I'm not sure I quite understand the second paragraph. There's an Obisidan option, a Ryder option and a combined Obsidian Ryder. Together that's 3 out of 15. That's not a third and I'm not sure if it makes much sense counting them together like that.

But I agree that favors for certain players/player groups turn out to be not a great idea most of the time. Not a fan of PMFs either.

It seems you missed "Ryder's Roost". That makes up four options, which as I wrote is almost a third of the fifteen. Think about it this way then: a sizeable portion of the choices were ones which were advantaged from the start.
Update: I derped, as I thought there was another Ryder in there, except there wasn't. Well, a fifth of them then :D Still three choices that were advantaged from the start.

Yeah. I think PMFs might have been the start. Well, unless one counts the DDF from the Kickstarter, but in the end, despite the original promise, it ended up as mostly just a separate discussion forum, no?
