Is Elite Dangerous a dead game? I compared it to some others ...

It seems you missed "Ryder's Roost". That makes up four options, which as I wrote is almost a third of the fifteen. Think about it this way then: a sizeable portion of the choices were ones which were advantaged from the start.

Ryder's Roost, Obsidian Orbital, Obsidian Ryder Station and...? They also had to split votes, so it wasn't only advantageous. But yeah, pointless anyway.

Perhaps the inference is regarding those who consider themselves "content creators"?
blanket statement
You know what, I thought about it. Maybe it is not fair to paint with such a broad brush. I admit I am somewhat biased against "content creators", "influencers", or however they may call it. I have a certain image in my head when I use those terms, and certainly not all of the Youtubers fit that image. The likes of the Buurs or Galnet News Digest don't fit that image. While I do not really watch their videos because they don't deliver any news that I don't know yet, I appreciate them trying to be a kind of news service with a funny edge. The Buurs sprinkle in the odd amount of criticism now and then, they are still being nice about it. I like nice. I need that in my life. I don't need to spend my time with bitterness.

That being said, one choice the likes of OA, Yamiks or, lately, D2EA could have made when they get disenchanted with ED would have been to just stop doint content on it. The day ED doesn't give me anything anymore, I walk away from it and be quiet about it, and I will not look back or spew my bitterness about it on this forum or on social media.

But they didn't, because they don't run passion projects, they run a business, and to stop making content means losing parts of the audience. And the "active" audience of those who I consider among these "content creators" (meaning those in the audience who directly engage via the comment section) is an audience that likes to bash the game at all cost.

Case in point: I just looked up what YT channels about ED are actually out there, and lo and behold: The one who only talks in expletives just released another "Odyssey is so bad and the Developers are so incompetent" video. Why? Why keep coming back to that? It is certainly not out of love for the game, I don't believe that for a nanosecond. It is because his audience is toxic as <expletive> and thrives on him playing the rude court jester and it brings in that sweet patreon money.

Six pages later and everything is still Obsidian Ant's fault. And people call his audience toxic, LOL.

I still play Everquest and Everquest II. Both games still have people playing and can still find groups decades after release. Ultima Online has a small but vibrant community.

Even Gemstone IV, a text only and mostly pay to play Online RPG that made its debut in 1988 still has plenty of players and an annual convention.

Elite Dangerous is hardly "Dead"

Haha i remember that thread, so many comments of immature bitterness and misguided blame aimed at one man 😆
"In the last year he's joined the ex-girlfriend gang, putting out videos bemoaning the game and generally being a negative force." So it's not just me then. I knew I was being gaslit.

He hasn't joined the 'angry' gang, he's just become much better at writing headlines that attract clicks.

That's simply not true. We can even stick with OA as an example. Watch any of the earlier Elite videos and you'll struggle to find a single bad word about the game or Frontier.

Frontier benefited immensely in the early days from his free PR. It's not a coincidence the community picked the name Obsidian Orbital when given the chance to name a station (contrary to what some say, it wasn't OA himself who requested that name out of hubris).
Just an observation (as a disclaimer, I don't want to imply that OA eats babies).

Personally I think that the game we have today is much better than the game we used to have 5 years ago. And yet it seems like OA was more positive about something that used to be worse.
I have no idea why though, I didn't watch content creators 5 years ago and don't do it now. Ultimately I don't care and just comment on OA because it's what all the cool kids do.

PS
I do believe that "Does this man eat babies? (with footage)" would generate a considerable amount of clicks though.
