Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I really like the scenery design, but this example would be way too small for an aviary. I wouldn't use it as it would feel like torturing the birds. I hope if actual aviaries come in they would be much larger, or nullable like the WEs
No it wouldn't. The current WE is quite huge, the size of a small building. I've seen aviaries of that size before. I've seen taller, of course, but the current size is not unrealistic not is it unreasonable.
Plus, the current WEs are nullable anyways, so it shouldn't matter too much

Here's what I'd try to do for a hypothetical Tropical animal pack. And, this is a dream DLC, so imma do a butterfly treatment here, ok? Don't squash my dreams like you squash a cockroach:
  1. Black howler monkey - South America
  2. South American coati - South America
  3. Red river hog - Africa
  4. Crowned pigeon (any species) - Oceania, Asia
  5. North Island brown kiwi - Oceania
  6. White-cheeked gibbon - Asia
  7. Goodfellow's tree kangaroo - Oceania, Asia
  8. Scarlet macaw (WE) - South America
  9. Hyacinth macaw (WE) - South America
  10. Blue-and-yellow macaw (WE) - South America
  11. Military macaw (WE) - South America
  12. African grey parrot (WE) - Africa
You replace that crowned pigeon with a shoebill, and I'll be shoving a fistful of dollars in your face.

Now that we said almost every idea, i've been researching how flying birds could get to Planet zoo. To begin with, the interaction of the butterflies with the visitors has totally changed the perception of looped animations for me, since it must be somewhat complicated to program that, so it would not be so complicated to introduce but with small birds.

To start with, I have designed an "aviary", which is simply the WE but with mesh fences. I have also created a possible new type of door, like the ones in some avians in real life. They could also add doors with chains for the pvc doors, which are also located in aviaries.

The birds would have the possibility of walking with a certain frequency, depending on the species, of course, and as "hooking" points some branches, trees and perches. You could also add some feeders, species enrichment and drinkers, giving the aviary a fresher touch.
They could also walk freely around the aviary, and when they start to fly, they would start their special flight animation, not free flight, but at least well done.

And to finish my hypothesis: Visitors could interact with certain birds, such as butterflies. The smallest on the finger and the largest on the shoulder, it could be a fantastic inclusion and also possible. And as the icing on the cake, educators could give talks with birds on their shoulders, as they already do with terrarium animals.

I just hope that if the day comes when such magnificent and diverse creatures come to the game, they will be done well, not free flight in the aviaries or bigger and more complex craziness, but if I can expect something more "realistic" like this idea, and if so, I'm delighted.

One criticism: I don't know if you should have macaws landing on guests' shoulders without keeper supervision, as they are very large birds. That's how it's done in the zoos that I've been to. Maybe the keepers can take them out for an animal talk point and have the guests interact with them.

the WE is huge for realistically sized aviaries, most aviaries are not that big. If we are talking walkthrough free flight aviaries for rainforest, birds of prey or coastal birds then yeah its way too small but generally for aviaries with like 2 species it is perfectly fine. Personally i would half the size easily for standard zoo aviaries then double or triple for proper walkthroughs although this can be solved by having several WE's in the building you intend to have them. I solved that for my realistic butterfly house where 2 WE's were used to make it seem like one large butterfly walkthrough

True.
But, for my representation of that, i do not haved any bird workshop models that aren't macaws or eagles, so i needed to use that, I should explained it, my bad 😅

The actual problem is that most zoos have outdated aviaries which are too small. By modern standards new aviaries need to be the huge structures that allow long flight which you see ij big well funded zoos. The zoo I worked in is slowly shifting from many tiny aviaries to 3 huge themed aviaries (wetlands, tropical, and birds-of-prey).

I really want gigantic aviaries like this one in Hellabrunn, Munich, Germany

It’s like the whole ecosystem with flowing real stream and dozens of different species inside. Even a pair of Macaws.

Fun fact: it was designed in the 70’s and made in the 80’s yet it’s still so modern and one of the best I have ever seen 🤩

Ah netting like that would be amazing, if Aviaries were like a last dlc pack that's the kind of features needed for free flight

Here in Spain, concretely in Terra Natura Benidorm, we have a very, very large aviary that i would love to see someday in the game.
Also, in the photo are less trees than today because this photo is when they remodeled it

And another cool shape is the one from Terra Natura Murcia

Beautiful! And I truly believe that we can get something close to this with Walkthrough Exhibits. Since we can customize them to quite a degree, we would just need to be able to easily build with netting. Not to keep the birds from actually flying away, as they'd be contained by the Exhibit system already, but just for visual purposes to recreate something more close to real life.

How about you give me those $10 NOW?! I could use that cash and buy some junk food at the conveniece store... 🤪

You are right, yes. But the Houston Zoo currently has a brand-new aviary that is about the same size as the current WE. The other 2 they built around the same time are double in height, but the smallest one is about the size of the current WE's

I only visited Terra Natura benidorm! But a good reason to travel from the center to the coast again! Looks impressive!

I made a tread on the idea of us only getting animal packs. I would still kinda like something like a reptile house pack though. More faux stuff.

If we were to go into 2024 with content then only animal packs that year would be the dream.
I said this with a lot of confidence, but knowing myself I know that I'd adore some good faux stuff, playground material, more animal/education themed scenery with statues and stuff,...

Are you sure about this? Isn't this just a picture from when the park first opened? The vegetation around surrounding areas was veeery lush in my last visits in 2022.
IIRC, you are from Benidorm, right? Glad to interact with other Iberian PZ enthusiasts!

Not Benidorm, but from Alicante. And yes, probably this was from the opening of the zoo, probably my most favourite zoo of Spain 😄
