Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I wrote that despite being a pvp allowed game, it's rare to do pvp during pve mission. What I have to ponder ? The fact that you break my sentence at the wrong place to make it incoherent ?
You have essentially confirmed what I wrote - the game design is completely incoherent and marketing oriented. In a single-shard PvP environment, curated single player missions can work only if other players let them work.

In other words, those amazing missions commandos were salivating over, work as advertised only if other people do not play Star Citizen, which is contrary to the core premise behind playing Star Citizen.

Imagine Dishonored, but with potentially hundreds of players (in a single room, of course!) trolling around.

Random sidebar, but I've been travelling the last few weeks and gaming off my mobile phone and have to say was amazed Star Citizen was running comfortably on my phones 4g.

What are you not understanding in the fact that when you do a pve mission in SC, the balance of the game (ratio between pvp/non pvp players, number of mission locations/the difficulty to track other players/etc) makes you encounter pvp in your mission less than 5% of the time ?
On pve mission (not the event missions like xenothreat) you rarely encounter other players and even more rarely fight them. Imagine Dishonored with 5% of your missions where you meet 1 or 2 guys and often, you just say hello or help them ? That's the reality of what you are describing as a 'mission pvp hell'.

Ah, the invisible PvP slider.

Driving moral action in the marketplace. Good to know :)
SC is a game allowing PvP. It doesn't mean that the game is driven by PvP.
It's correct that there is no PvP slider. But you have whole series of missions dedicated to PvP and when you like to PvP, that's the ones you choose, not trying to track random players to kill them while their are doing a PvE mission.

BEEP, BEEP; BEEP and then you awake. IRL in EVERY PVP allowing game are certain players dedicating their gaming time to ruin other peoples play. SC would be really really special if there weren't such players around. And that group does not go for PVP stuff, but rather PVE stuff. Reason being, on PVP stuff there are other players who have expectation of PVP, have certain skillset and have certain good quality equipment. No fun in that. Better go against likely weaker players those not expecting PVP encounter and ruin their day.

Beep beep, beep... you didn't read my post and you don't know how pve missions work in SC.
You encounter these players less than 5% of your pve missions. It's not a dream, that's the reality because griefing in pve mission is a huge waste of time (hard to track players or huge waiting time for really few encounters so as you said "no fun in that").
These players are found around stations, space ports and specific places, not in pve mission.

Another fun fact is that pvp griefers have also a huge mark locating them in Stanton for all bounty hunters. So a griefer can only use a small % of his time griefing, he has to manage bounty hunters most of his time.

Fun vid about invisible player issues:

Didn't realise ships could be active but unseen too. Youch.
To be fair Elite has been suffering from that since the release and it's also not been fixed. I'm not saying that makes it OK, just that it seems to be an issue regardless of server or P2P architecture in these type of games. I don't really play any other multiplayer games of this scale (are there any?), so not sure if this is a wider issue in gaming in general or just specific to these 2 games.

Yeah it's an issue for most MMOs AFAIK. But obviously not something you want to become endemic etc.

(Would be a great get-out for a Server Meshing reveal though ;))

'Guys! We made it! 1000s of players in one place!'

'Now we just need to make them visible...'

LittleAnt isnt wrong though: it is a genuine rarity (outside of Jumptown and the ilk) to encounter PvPers/'griefers', unless you've got a crime stat (in which case, lets be honest, you're fair game).

Tbh, I encountered more issues of this nature in ED than I have in SC.
