Well...consider me rather underwhelmed. I mean, not one of these animals was very high on my personal list. The red river hog is probably the most immediately useful for me.
The fact that we've been stiffed on a New World monkey once again is actually kind of irksome, and here we had the perfect opportunity to include one. Instead, we have another gibbon (yes, I know the lar gibbon was specifically high on the meta wishlist, but I refuse to believe it still has the same popularity after the 'gibbon' box was ticked with the siamang).
Then we have another monitor lizard, which makes three, which would be fine if it wasn't a species that barely seems to come up. Oh, this one can swim and dive? Well, the Nile monitor can swim, and it should be able to dive, too. It can also be kept in tropical environments, and it has vibrant colours. IMO if they were dead-set on a third monitor, the lace monitor or perentie is a far better choice; one that isn't functionally identical to the Nile and at least exists in a different biome range, and is an Oceanian species.
The fossa is an animal that a lot of people wanted, so I'm at least glad that those people got it. For me it was never a huge priority, but that's okay. It's at least somewhat more unique, even if it is cat-like.
Finally, the sloth; a species that literally doesn't exist in captivity. I'm fine with it being a walkthrough exhibit animal, that makes sense to me, but why that species?
I haven't played in a long time, and I was banking on the new DLC giving me some motivation to jump back in, but...quite frankly, I'm just not excited. This is Twilight Pack levels of bummer for me.
Oh well, you can't win them all. I guess for me it's better luck next time.
On a more positive note, the models we've seen look pretty good and the building pieces seem intriguing. The tropical foliage doesn't really scream 'useful' to me, but that's just my play-style more than anything else.
