Analyzing required animals by Taxonomical group

I have a question: I saw several people suggesting recently concept packs with the two toed sloth in a exhibit or somretimes even habitat slot.

Do people actually want the two toed sloth enough to give it one of the remaining slots?
Depends.
In general its okay, good second use of the rigg, they do look quite different, the realism builders are happy and maybe just like with the second gibbon they are gonna expand on the customisation a bit, like for example choosing between multiple different climbing frames, which would be great.
However this mostly depends on the pack if they are great.
Lets all be honest to ourself, every pack that could have a small bird we should have ond atleast in our hearts.
The bat, butterflies and sloth are all nice but if we get only birds for the exhibit slot noone will be sad.
However, while the WE as it currently is works great for small birds in big flocks (humming birds, small parrots, song birds), it would be rather suboptimal for water birds (yes a scarlet ibis can fly, but they could literally be implemented as a tiny flamingo and nothing would be lost) and birds of prey, as they often spend most of their time on the ground anyways and only fly to get from a to b, aka how the crane, peafowl and flamingo are allready handled in game, so animals like eagles, vultures and owls for all means really could and imo should be habitat animals.
With an owl hopefully introduced as an habitat animal, the exhibit slot for a potential nocturnal pack frees up, where the two toed sloth would be quite welcome.
Im quite sure a scenery pack consisting of the snowy owl, a random felid but lets say ocelot for continent diversity, lori, a nocturnal marsupial and the sloth would sell like crazy just by the prestige of the owl alone, so a good clone for the exhibit sounds both like a realistic and appreciated call to me.

Here's a list of everything that was widely considered as essential in this post's discussions:

  1. African crocodile species
  2. African spurred tortoise
  3. Baboon
  4. Chameleon (any species)
  5. Coati (any species)
  6. Cobra (any species)
  7. Dromedary camel
  8. Duck (any species)
  9. Echidna
  10. Grey/black crowned crane
  11. Himalayan caprine (takin/markhor)
  12. Indisn monkey species
  13. Kiwi (any species)
  14. Medium/large new world monkeys (more species)
  15. Old world porcupine species
  16. Patagonian mara
  17. Python (any species)
  18. Peccary (any species)
  19. Pelican (any species)
  20. Rhea (any species)
  21. Swan (any species)
  22. Tamarin/marmoset (any species)
  23. Tasmanian devil
  24. Walrus
  25. Wild boar
How lilely do you think it is this list would be completed?

Would you be happy with it if these and okly these were the only animals added to the game?
If they were the only animals added to the game, then I would be very disappointed... I can see why people want them (they check off many animals we don't have yet) but to me, there's alot missing...

If I am 100% honest, and I know some (if not most) disagree; I want more hoofstock and carnivores. I'm not talking the DLCs are full of them, considering we need more birds and stuff, but I think one or two are always welcome additions. I play zoo games and go to the zoo in real life to see mammals... and charismatic mammals at that.

I don’t disagree! I would still like to see more carnivores and hoofstock, I just think Frontier made every DLC too focused on them. If I had a couple DLCs with birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and monkeys and then Frontier went back to carnivores and hoofstock I would have no complaints. I just think Frontier has made their own animal bias a bit too prevalent. That’s just me though.

I agree. If Frontier does a few DLCs without hoofstock and carnivores would I be disappointed, yes, but also totally understanding. As much as I personally love the charismatic animals I completely get that they are far from representative of diversity in zoological parks!

My favorite Frontier moment is introducing walk-through exhibits and introducing two mammals for it before they even use it for birds. Why is it so hard to increase the bird roster lmao

I'm wondering if maybe its the feathers? :ROFLMAO: I actually do like birds and would gladly welcome them (one habitat or in the case of walkthrough exhibits 5) in each DLC! Man, one of my favorite Wetlands DLC animals was the crane if I remember right.

I have no problem with more carnivorans and hoofstock being added in a vacuum. Its more like the summary of multiple of them in almost every pack, the overfocus on the same subgroups of them and the seemingly bias towards them opposed to other animal groups.

Like fossa and hog were also a carnivoran and hoofstock but not a feline/canine and african antelope for once which is why they were received much more welcoming by the players i think

If you were to ask a random person on the street their favorite zoo animal: chances are it be a feline, canine, antelope, equine... We have cats, dogs as beloved pets. We don't have Madagascaran carnivores as pets and pigs (I love them) are seen as livestock. Horses are well admired (if not well-known) by the general public and antelopes capture some of the grace of horses imo. I'm glad for the fossa and RRH but to be honest the Tropical Pack wasn't all that welcomed by me...

Yeah but i feel like the chance for them to answer monkeys, penguins, meerkat, elephant are just as high, none of which are remotely similar to anything you would keep at home.
Didnt say anything about the tropical pack as a whole

Looking at the big picture:

If we're going realism, we need A LOT more birds and invertebrates. Also some more reptiles and amphibians.

For example a medium sized zoo like San Francisco Zoo only has 78 mammal species, 26 reptile and amphibian species, 84 birds, and 50 invertebrates.

London Zoo has 70 mammal species, 99 birds, 49 reptiles, 207 fish, 228 invertebrates.

Berlin Zoo (a larger zoo) has 169 mammals, 319 birds, 69 reptiles, 54 amphibians, 562 fish, 331 invertebrates.

A lot of the massive specie count in zoos derives from their massive bird, insect, (and if they have an aquarium) fish count.

Planet Zoo currently has 103 mammals, EIGHT birds, 21 reptiles, 8 amphibians, and EIGHTEEN insects.

Thus the current inventory is completely unbalanced. Frontier needs to add imo like 50 interesting birds + 50 interesting invertebrates, maybe a dozen more reptiles and amphibians each. The mammal count on the other hand is relatively close to complete (maybe 30-40 more). But we need DLCs focused specifically on reptiles, amphibians, birds, invertebrates eventually and they need to dump A LOT of those species very fast because nobody will buy them in batches of 5 or 8 like in the primarily mammal packs.

Also aquarium, if Frontier decides to do it, should be a proper expansion (priced at relatively the same as the base game) and contain maybe 100 fish species.

I guess in other countries are real different cause generally I'm used to seeing like 2 or 3 invertebrates per zoo. And that's a big one.

Unfortunately common in US Zoos, unless they have an insect house! I agree with the post above though. I want more diversity in my animals, especially regarding the little guys. There are still more mammals I want too, but I wouldn’t mind them taking a backseat so we could focus on the areas we need animals in.

If a zoo has an aquarium this numbr is usually inflated by corals , jellys, carbs, seastars, seacucumbers and the like.

That so many zoos in the US dont display inverts is really surprising to me especially since alot of the common ones are super easy to care for and take up so little space.
For example a friend of mine keeps a tarantula and you cant get any simpler and low maintainace with pets: Make sure the temp and humidity stays where it should and throw in a cricket every 7-10 days, thats it.
