Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

For some reason that reminds me of the brother of the actor who played Basil Fawlty,
I think the brothers name was Dano.

I’m stumped - tbh i thought John Cleese was an only child? ;p

Sunday and the sun is out even as we slip into winter here - have free time and feel like i should be in-game, but the idea of collecting Caustic Tissue right now is about as appealing as the thought of trying to collect a handbag of leather from a crocodile’s tail… :|

Wouldn’t mind hitching a ride to shoot some more pics/video if anyone’s heading into a maelstrom nearby a bit later on… :)

No, the carrier is jumping back to the bubble as mineral prices are bad on the market right now and trading is good. I have an alt account in the carrier to refuel it and this account role is trade.
6000ly outside the bubble is the farthest I've taken it. Not sure I ever want to drag it to Colonia.
That nebula Quain is in has lots of unexplored systems. Usually nebula are fully explored. It's close enough to Colonia to use that as a base to explore the Festival Grounds for sure.
Well, tons of respect points for you doing it old school, I thought that I was the only fool to go that rout as I could easily afford a carrier. :)

I managed to get 2 more Caustic Tissue Samples in one run today, so now I have 5.

I still have to collect the other stuff (Caustic Shards and Corrosive Mechanisms), which I have heard conflicting reports about. Some say they are easy to get, others say they are not. I guess I will find out!

I painted my Clipper black. To be, like, stealthy. :p

Note the Thargoid goo. Icky things, Thargoids.

Shards and mechanisms are easier. Shards just float around the Maelstrom in random places and show up on radar as a white box. Corrosive Mechanisms can be a bit trickier as you have to destroy Caustic Generators which can attract the attention of an inteceptor.

You were right, these were fairly easy to get. The hardest part was getting to the Maelstrom -- many hyperdictions/interdictions. And I ran out of limpets and had to synthesize some.

The one gotcha was that when the Caustic Generator explodes it does some damage to your ship if you are too close, and covers you with caustic goo. I did this just once :)

So now I just have to collect, or rather trade for, the other more common materials, and I should be able to unlock the Caustic Sink Launcher.

It's been a bit of a journey and quite frustrating much of the time, but there ya go.

And after that, I guess I need a TG Pulse Neutralizer, which requires an Unclassified Relic, which I do not have, and some sort of data called Massive Surge Analytics, which I do not have.

It's been years since I visited a crashed Thargoid base, so getting the Relic part will probably be fun.

For the other I think I just have to attempt to penetrate the Maelstrom a few times. And not die, I guess. I'm not sure about that, or how it works.

Congratz! ...i must admit i gave up and asked a friend - who i'd recently helped with the Smear Campaign Plans to unlock the OD engineer after Terra Velasquez ;]

That said, i now realise i am still short of:
2 caustic shards & 7 corrosive mechanisms... ;p

It was actually, in an almost nostalgic kindof a way now - but with more flashing lights ...if it's too much of a drag, i have 11 spare on my carrier - let know if you want to drop by 60 Tauri in the near future :]

I think you get to keep the Massive Surge Analytics, even if you do die, from my experience - i made it out only one or two of the times i went in looking - basically it's data that gets collected automatically if you are exposed to a Massive Energy Surge and survive that... you don't have to get out of the maelstrom alive - even such small mercy is welcome now... :D

You collect 1 Massive Surge Analytics by getting your ship smacked by the pulse wave the Titan emits when you get too close. Actually quite a good way to exit the Maelstrom fast.

When you don't have to collect caustic tissue samples and you've learned how, it becomes quite fun. I collected and sold 10 from my carrier. Perhaps I'm just weird 🤣
