Starfield has a lot of features that people have wished for ED. I think ED still has its own corner in the space-sim genre, since it's the only one with a full Milky Way galaxy and semi-MMO features.
This exactly. You can see some inspiration from Elite in Starfield, but there are many things that Elite does that Starfield won't, yet Frontier can add a few of those things to Elite, not all. It will be interesting to see. It looks great, and I'll give credit where credit is due.
The slick production and deep dive on how the game works is the sort of marketing push that I've said before that Frontier woefully lack, and I can't believe that they are unaware that it hurts them. Despite the doomers' constant mantra chants, Elite is an amazing game that should be constantly advertised and promoted. Sure, marketing/pr is mostly puffed up - Bethesda talk about a galaxy, yet there's only 1000 star systems, and then there's the stuff they talk about that has already been done in Elite, but that's not the important aspect, they get the message out and project success, and it works. I hate to be the armchair advisor to anyone, but I will say that Frontier need to take note of it.
Frontier should implement / improve more features + graphics upgrades and ship interiors to keep ED relevant.
Agreed, and as I mentioned, Bethesda have borrowed quite a few concepts from Elite, and not just in a general space game way, so I would argue that Bethesda could, with the right perspective, actually have done Frontier a great favor and pointed towards some of the things that they should focus on developing in Elite. The ship customization looks great but I don't think that is relevant to Elite, however, what it does show, is that interiors, zero g, ship to ship docking/raiding, looting deceased foes, basebuilding, wide handheld weapon selection, and an expanded crafting system are bankable features - and, apart from interiors & basebuilding (though part of the leak and possibly partiallly/fully developed), are not huge stepping stones of features that are already in the game.
Overall, Starfield looks great, and worth anyone's time to check out, though I most certainly won't be ditching Elite for it, in fact it could be a great complementary game and most definitely relegates Star Citizen into a definitive no for me from this point on. Though, of course, we will see how Starfield launches.
