It's not about trading, it's about letting another player selling what you own.
Not every game let you do it. You can do it in ED or NMS (genuine question) ?

In most games that allow trading I can just give my stuff to team mates (trade for zero credits) which they can then treat as their own stuff, to trade or sell, use, throw away or whatever they want, is this not how it works in SC? I mean that's basic functionality.

Gifting/giving anything from your inventory is possible in NMS. At the player hub (the anomaly) this is a routine occurrence.

You're right. I was focused on the physical part of cargo exchange in SC that change the way the game has to deal with it, but in reality a transfert of ownership through a zero deal give the same final result. So nothing new appart from the fact that you have to physically move the goods in SC for this exchange of ownership.

October 2023:

I hope it succeeds, but I no longer pledge, I call what I contributed a loss and don’t want to waste more in a possible economic downturn next year should it occur.

I don’t think it’s improving, I think it’s just new voices coming in that have initial hype as some that trash on it now were once that hyped Defender of CIG. It takes years of the same promises being told to you then little effort added into the PTU, THEN all you regularly see is ship sales. That becomes the only consistent thing we get.

Many just want S42 to drop to sadly “get it over with” which sucks because I hope it’s a good game and at this point I think we see S42 drop then CIG sold off in the next 5-10 years as CR retires and S42 is his swan song before fading away. He will want to say he shipped that kickstarter promise at the least. After a decade, many basic core mmo features are still missing from the PU and many major bugs still present. As it stands if meshing as it was promised never occurs and quanta as promised never occurs, the mmo game dies.

Each year CIG promises another feature that’s incoming the next year, then it gets pushed and pushed. Much of the anger is when you see Rockstar produce RDR2 in like 10-15 years with a smaller budget and we only see the mmo where you die so easily & lose everything you were working toward for progress or even cash funded flair items. You are new, play it and get sucked in, then see where you are in 5 years where at most a new system is in devoid of life and maybe a few dead AI standing in chairs in a bunker, desync, box deliveries & no S42. You will get salty, but you will always have the fiercely loyal, that’s with anything. Most will be content creators who are forced to play it as that’s their only real bites they get to their channels.

Remember, you're not meant to be enjoying the game and playing it, you're meant to be testing it!

I actually long for a complete wipe soon. I mostly fly rented ships that disappear after their lease expires but they stick around in all sorts of lists, like the Vehicle Loadout Manager and shop terminals. The worst part are refinery terminals. I can try every "Prospector" in the list until I find the current one, that's fine. But when I show up with the 3rd "Freelancer", I have a 2/3 chance of loading everything into a ghost ship. The workaround is to park rented ships at cargo stations before they expire where they'll clog up only the shop terminal lists. I found that out a bit late ;)

So, yeah, I hope they'll wipe everything about once a month or so until that's fixed.

Tbh, I don't care much about the "Persistent Universe", yet. That is merely support and background for the SQ 42 I - IV Saga, the main attraction of the Star Citizen Project. It's probably not going to be the Epic Space RPG that it's hyped up as. But it's got Mark Hamill! I'll pre-order it as soon as it comes to Steam. :D

Not really basic. It's an important element of gameplay for team salvaging with Vulture.
Unfortunately, it is not the only element. Only the "mission owner" is legally allowed in the salvage area. Their party members are illegal trespassers and receive a crime stat if NPC security shows up. Or did they fix that, too?
