Third Anniversary Animal

The more I think about it as NZ stated a Nile crocodile does make perfect sense. I still think it could literally be anything with of course that mainly being a edited clone species. Even a exhibit animal this time around wouldn’t surprise me. But only having one crocodile thus far and a saltwater at that makes me think a Nile would have been the perfect base game inclusion left out for purposes like anniversary possibilities. I’d also take American or Cuban. A false gharial would also make a good choice.
the other choices seem alright but the cuban crocodile specifically would require huge rig changes since they can actually run so probably not.
Imagine if they want to make the anniversary "beary" special! Updating the Himalayan Brown Bear to the Eurasian Brown Bear (please Frontier....) and to "make up" from the first anniversary, both the Spectacled Bear and American Black Bear.
Unpopular opinion but I dont want them to change the himalayan brown bear. I agree it should of been the eurasian brown bear on release but its here now replacing it would minimise both it and the eurasian brown bears existence.

thinking about the bear though, I would imagine people would be more happy with another bear (or two even) added to the base game than paying for another one. I think I get your point that the base game doesn't really "need" a bear in comparison to other types of animals, but the remaining bears do still come up in conversation, so they're somewhat wanted. I think the Highlands talk has people accepting of a Spectacled Bear, if it were to come in that type of pack. Which for a Highlands pack it almost surely would.
I agree the bears are a controversial topic because alot of people want them but not many are willing to accept its place in a pack since it they are fairly basic. Its what I consider the perfect anniversary animal something people dont want to pay for but people want another example I can think of is the masai giraffe.

I guess I think the other way cause for me the spec. Bear is still an exciting species to get and I would pay for it in any pack, but I can see how some wouldn’t be thrilled about it taking a spot, then again I still don’t think it’s gonna be an anniversary animal because of the fact we already have 3 bears in the base game. We got another gazelle and gazelles weren’t requested, we got a monitor and monitors weren’t that requested, sometimes frontier doesn’t care and it turns out well responded to anyway, probably gonna be the same for a paid for bear.

@Milurian would a Cuban crocodile really run all that much in a zoo setting? I only ask because I’ve never actually seen one at a zoo. I have seen them run in several videos though. Honestly the Cuban crocodile would probably be a stretch as a anniversary animal. A paid pack would allow frontier to get paid for the work of adding additional animations. Someone did however suggest the dwarf crocodile which I never even thought of. It would actually be a nice addition.

Personally im very much in favor of getting the slender snouted crocdile or west african crocodile, which would fill the niche of a more medium sized crocodile. I dont really get the appeal of the nile croc to be honest. We already have the huge alligator, garial and saltie, so getting another enormous one feels kinda redundant to me. On the other side of the sprectrum we got the tiny dwarf caiman and the not super tiny but still rather small spec caiman, leaving the medium size range rather empty

no idea never seen it in a zoo setting but that is the most iconic fact about the animal is how it moves. Also yeah it would definitely be a stretch.

False Gharial or Tomistoma would be a good anniversary animal

I don't understand the guesses for it being a bear, we have 3 bears in the base game, is a fourth one really what the base game needs? The deer was the first deer in the base game, the lemur, actually idk why they chose it, I guess for variety and they needed something quick. Putting my money with the mongoose. There are zero small ferret like animals in the base game, making it not possible to make tiny exhibits for diggers.

For me, it's less about what I want and more about what feels realistic/simple that would have a relatively positive response from the community. A bear feels like it would get decent "bang for your buck" with regard to being easy/simple to make and having a positive response from the community. Especially compared to something like a mongoose. Not that they're complicated but... I dunno. I'm just not feeling it in terms of community demand/enthusiasm.

Then again, the "people would call it a clone" theory falls flat if it's a spectacled bear. Though I do think that issue would happen if the NA black bear were in a pack. Not from me, but y'know...

That said? I'd love to be wrong. A mongoose or any other weasel (black-footed ferret, pine marten) would be way more fun for me. Haha.

If a mountains pack isn't round the corner I could see a caprine as an anniversary animal. Barbary Sheep would work well (not as requested as the others that could headline pack, would work well with the base games large African roster, reuse Dall sheep rig and animations).

Or both, a highlands pack and a Barbary sheep. Aoudad, Markhor and Takin. That’s one hell of a christmas present.

Here’s a animal that could make for a great anniversary gift and having that base game appeal the impala. I’d be pretty happy with these in planet zoo.

Well that’s kind of why I picked it. I really don’t expect anything much more than a clone of some sorts. I know people will say that the red deer wasn’t a direct clone but I still stick to my theory the red deer based on in game decor was a planned animal from the start. With a lot animals like the leopard, dromedary, and black rhino in game now there’s little reason to doubt this theory. Going from that theory I guess we could get a cobra or what appears to be a howler monkey. There’s also a squirrel and hedgehog but I’d doubt those because of their small size and wouldn’t really look right in a open habitat. If you look at our dlcs in general there’s always hints and clues what type of packs we would get just by the biomes in game. Honestly though I highly doubt we get anything to over the top if we do indeed get something at all.
