I requested a refund through support and got this reply

The cancellations and returns policy on our site states that digital products are non-refundable once they are downloaded and played by the customer. As such, we are unable to offer you a refund on this purchase.

I’m sorry that we cannot assist you further in this instance.

Sincerely,
Support

Needless to say I will look to escalate this.

"We have no intention of taking the servers down, but I understand what you are getting at. We plan to archive the game from time to time (ie matching client and servers and game world state), and would release such an archive if the servers were to come down. That would also address the issue of how you preserve an online game for the future, from the whole 'retro' perspective."

Which is even less definate than offline mode

There is no off-line mode- if you check this thread out, David has just hels a Q & A and has posted some answers in there.

if someone refunds the game - is he then allowed to buy it again afterwards (for less money)? or is he forbidden to do so?

This is extremely disappointing. It also seems to be a direct breach of their own terms. As far as I'm concerned I have not been provided with the download for Elite Dangerous. The beta is not the same as the finished game. Frankly I would be disputing their right not to refund me even the extra £15 beta access price. There should be no question regarding the digital preorder it self.

So any goodwill they might of generated with DBs impromptu q&a session (not that he said anything new really) has just been utterly lost.. Great timing guys... really great...

I can understand them not refunding Kickstarter pledges.... but in my case they've used my Kickstarter pledge as an excuse to not refund me for the Elite: Dangerous - Lifetime Expansion Pass which I bought from their shop. (see my previous post) This will not wash I'm afraid!

The question is how can we trust that when they also said they'd support offline mode...

Sad to hear about refund refusals. At the very least I would have hoped that Frontier would refund the pre-order price as a gesture of goodwill. :(

Not being a great server buff myself, could someone please explain how this works.

Thanks :)

Edit: Must add it seemed a little 'damage limitation' regards the Q&A, after the beeb got wind of it.. But at least he took part.

Actually, I'm the first in this thread to note that refunds would be impossible to obtain; the idea that a refund could be obtained for the pre-order if you Beat-backed is merely a technicality that glinsters to the layman as a loophole. The whole line about being able to be refunded is if you went for the pre-order proper, that one is still not made available to you. The Beta is, and the full game is a reward.

Another refund refused, looks like a cut and paste session to me.

Why they even bothered to tell people to ask is beyond me.
