With continents they don't mean "Eurasia" or "America", they mean the traditional ones, which are 7.
nobody mentioned the bairds tapir... ??? I'm talking about the anniversary animals. Also yes your comment was a reply but it was still something you were wondering as well haha I just wanted to clear up the implication of that thought because it's simply unrealistic to expect 4 more years of support (altho that would be a dream)
Okay I have an idea, since you consider 2 continents are left, what Anniversary animals would you like from Oceania and Antarctica? I would go with rockhopper penguin and yellow-footed rock wallaby.
you mentioned the base game had no iconic south american animals hence me mentioning the tapir I have since been told its range into south america is negligible so nevermind
Makes one wonder why the Baird's Tapir was chosen over Brazillian Tapir in the first place.
Anyway, we did not get any bear, so Spectacled Bear in the Mountains DLC would make alot of sense. SA would slowly but surely get 2 more representatives if the anniversary suid is indeed a Peccary. That would be amazing.

I understand that… However, they already covered over half of the continents (regardless of continental model) if the peccary is released today which was my point.
Plus Eurasia and Americas are more truly continents than the traditional (nonsense) 7
How you define continents is subjective of course, but North America and South America are pretty clearly distinguishable in a geological sense given they only joined about 3 million years ago and even today are only connected by a thin land bridge - they're about as distinct from one another as Africa is from Eurasia*. On the other hand there is no physical distinction between Europe and Asia and so it's an entirely cultural/political separation there.
*The Isthmus of Suez connecting Africa to Eurasia is 125 km wide at its thinnest point, while the Isthmus of Panama connecting South America to North America is barely 60 km wide at some points. So there's less land connecting SA to NA than there is connecting Africa to Eurasia (ignoring the man-made canals that have been dug through both of them).
Hence why I referenced different continental models. North America and South America for example, are much more culturally similar than different parts of Eurasia (largely due to colonialism). Especially since there are geological, political and other somewhat arbitrary definitions.
However, the collared peccary is found in both North America and South America so therefore it is reasonable to say that the Americas has gained an animal and that 2-5 continents have received an anniversary animal regardless of model.
Even with a Peccary I still think it's poodoo.
A bit offtopic, but never really understood why is that supposed to be a Spectacled Bear. It looks like a Brown Bear. Is there a reason? Never seen the movie.

If it’s Highlands (or Alpine) and we get Spec. bear that’s one more to SA, Wolverine which adds to NA (yes I know and everywhere else to), 1 African (baboon) which I think doesn’t surprise anyone I mean Africa is a pretty strong continent to add to as always, and the rest from Eurasia. I could add the hyrax for 2 in Africa.
My point is here, an alpine animal pack can balance out the years roster for continents.

- 2 South America Animals
- 10 Africa Animals
- 2 Asia Animals
- 1 North America Animal

I think all the the ‘traditional’ continents should get a ‘distinct’ animal in the mountains pack:
- Africa - gelada
- Asia - takin + monal / Pallas’ cat / markhor
- Australia - corobboree frog species
- Europe - marmot / chamois (depending on NA)
- North America - marmot / bighorn / Rocky Mountain goat (depending on EU)
- South America - spectacled bear
- Wolverine to cover everywhere
Eh I disagree, I don’t think we need an animal from every continent in a highlands pack. We didn’t get an animal in every desert region for the Arid Pack, so I think it’s fair that this pack should highlight where the roster is lacking (for this year specifically).
My roster:
- Markhor
- Gelada
- Spectacled Bear
- Wolverine
- Takin
- Pallas Cat
- Rock Hyrax
However, Wetlands did. Plus Europe and North America have had nothing yet and both could use an animal.
Hyrax can be saved for a safari pack in SS24 and I’m still concerned about monkeys making it in in general (thinks back to the Hamadryas fallout after the arid reveal)
I did put an animal for each of them? Wolverine for NA and EU combined since they are known mostly in those two continents. Plus the best EU animal being the chamois wouldn’t be picked over the Markhor since it’s iconic and they probably won’t put 2 goats in the same pack. I would think they would do a goat and a Buffalo (takin)
The best European animal is the alpine marmot. It’s a Swiss icon.
Plus takin are goat-antelopes as well. Markhor are cool - would love them - but they’re not as well known as people in this forum think. It’s impossible to create a mountain pack without two goat-antelopes
