Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Why are people asking for the two toed sloth? I would despise getting another sloth.
Cause number one its more common in zoos, number 2 I dont want an exhibit animal I'll never use and we probably won't get WTE birds and number 3 it looks way cooler than the brown throated.

Every time I ask that I'm told it's because frontier is obviously going to reuse the rig or whatever. A golden lion tamarin or something a tiny bit more interesting than a sloth would be a better option to hope for.
If they're going off the wishlist they're most likely gonna choose the Howler Monkey and I'm sure they wont do 2 monkeys in one pack, especially when they both will probably need a lot of work.

Also the point that they're using the same rig is logical, they did the exact same for the Flying Foxes.

The only antelope that I really cant see add anything to the game is the impala. Another gazelle like antelope, no interesting colours or anything, doesn't live in any exciting biome like wetlands, I dont see the value.

Yes i agree but i want them for how common they are and i personally really like them. I think they are elegant and beautiful. And i also grow up watching documentaries where they were chased, hunted and eaten by a variety of carnivores so i guess there is also nostalgia lol

To call back a page and play devil's advocate for the impala, I think they would have the potential to be quite different from any of the other in-game gazelles (even though impala aren't gazelles, or even closely-related to them) if sufficient effort were put into them. They have their incredible leaping behaviour that, if put into the running animations for them, would really elevate them as an animal I would personally enjoy.

Also, speaking from a European perspective, the springbok and Thomson's gazelles are being phased out in favour of building up impala numbers, so it would add a more realistic species.

While the climbing frames are somewhat restrictive, I learned to work around it and the sloth is actually the only WTE animal that doesnt look weird when cutting corners of the WTE itself. The climbing frame I can honestly understand the size of it because they needed a way to give it unique animations, however I have to agree with Cap in the fact that I would've like to see them trade out a climbing animation for them going on the ground. To me personally, its not a make it or break it deal though. I just want anything but a regular exhibit animal unless its a chameleon, though I wouldnt be opposed to a tree boa, I would just forget about it after using it once.

I really want the impala, to me it is the African antelope maybe alongside a wildebeest and a gazelle that is the iconic trio. It looks different enough from the rest too. Necessary? No, but I still would really like it.

And on the two-toed sloth, for me this is still absolutely essential. I'll never use the three-toed meanwhile the two-toed sloth is one of the most common and iconic zoo animals for me and I think they look really quite different.

I'd rather more reptiles and amphibians (or even certain invertebrates) in the exhibits over another sloth, I love building reptile houses but the species selection we have has been stale for a while. Given their lack of customisation, species variety is arguably more important for the exhibits than it is for habitats and this makes any addition valuable to me, especially given we only get one per DLC. Yeah the sloth we got is pretty rare worldwide and it would have been nice to get a more widely kept species, but the brown-throated sloth is common in South American zoos and that's good enough for me.

Cane toad, blue poison dart frog, twist-necked turtle, mata-mata, crested basilisk, emerald tree boa, green anaconda or eyelash viper are some options for species I'd be keen to see in a South/Latin America pack.

That's actually pretty close to real life zoos though, generally african and asian animals make up the bulk of entire animal collections.
depends on global region but yeah thats true for most of the western world asia I definitely the more prevalent continent where I am.
The fact that Africa has so many mammals in game already, and the idea of some kind of Safari pack focusing on Africa is slowing catching some traction, just goes to show just how important Africa is to zoo rosters.

I realize after the Arid pack I even made a thread about not needing any more African mammals, but yet here I am asking for another African based pack next year. But at the same time, looking over my wishlist, Africa is still the continent that has the second most mammals I want - behind South America of course.

It almost feels like we can never get enough African animals, but in context to your point, I would gladly trade out some for more South American animals. To say nothing of Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania being even more willing to get no more mammals for (the Wolverine and Wild Boar aside).
oceania needs more representation because if you ever actually go to the continent you will see that about half of every zoos collection is dedicated to the continent i cant speak of europe and north america though.
Sure the roster could’ve been done better had they swap some African animals for other animals from different continents, but we get what we get and it’s not like they’re useless.

Hoofstock make up a lot of zoo collections. I remember watching one of Cesar Creates zoo tours and it had so many ungulates it was unreal. The Somali, Addax and Camel imo were all worth inclusions as they are pretty common in zoos. The gazelle and rhino yeah for me they don’t do much but they still can be used as fillers in Africa sections.

Why people want more Africa, I think it’s just because Africa has a lot of unique animals left to give. Not saying SA doesn’t, but Africa does too. Secretary bird, Baboon, Aoudad, Mongooses, Honey Badger, Shoebill, Mantled Gueneza, etc. are all very unique compared to our current Africa roster.
again depends where you are there are barely any hoofstock at my local zoos but they are all african I think the reason africa has so much to give as it one of the largest continents with some of the highest diversity as well as having historical significance in western zoos due to proximity to europe.
What puzzles me is that frontier probably gives us African animals because they know African sections in zoos make up a large chunk of zoos, but so does Asia, and we’ve only gotten like 2 species this year. Which is why I’m really leaning towards a Highlands pack masked as a Eurasia pack with a Baboon thrown in there for the winter.
im leaning more to asia being the pack title myself since its one of the 3 continent tags currently without a pack surprisingly eurasia isnt one.
Playing devils advocate here, while i dont need it it does look pretty and pretty distinct from our other antelopes as ironically enough a brownish orange with large horns is something not currently in the game, but more importantly they are by far africas most successfull ungulates, being rediculously common and often making up up to 80% of a regions ungulate variety. They are also quite ancient, having held their position as africas most versatile and common ungulate for atleast 5 million years, being the last survivors of their family.
So while they are not the most interesting, they do look unique, are literally the most common and important ungulate in the wild and have been for quite a while, so they do have all the reasons to be a neat addition, even if i understand that they arnt the most interesting.

I was so surprised when it wasnt in the base game considering it is literally the most common african antelope but I would add nothing to the game if added now so its better left out.

because people are still salty about the 3 toed i personally have more than one sloth on my bingo card so I wouldnt be upset. I think a sloth is actually likely since they are going to run out of walkthrough exhibit idea quickly without birds.

I dont really want a second sloth either as i dont really care about the whole common in captivity thing.
But aside from that, gaging from the bats it will most likely be the same exhibit used for them, no new enrichment or anything.
In which case im very much in favor of getting a standard exhibit animal, which i assume are alot easier to do, leaving more room to do other stuff
And especially in a theme like Latin america im confinced its preferable to put as much focus in the habitat animals as possible.

sadly after arid I dont know if they will go back to standard exhibits because people were disappointed with the snake. I would definitely prefer standard exhibits over walkthrough since I think we have seen most of whats possible with them.

My ideal cold-oriented Animal Pack:

- Pacific Walrus: 5th place in the meta wishlist and a much needed animal, very different from the other options we already have (Sea Lion and Seal). The best marine option we have at the moment.

- Southern Elephant Seal: Also very different from the Seal, Sea Lion and Walrus and another great option of marine animal.

- Wolverine: 3th place in the meta wishlist.

- Musk Ox: 8th place in the meta wishlist.

- Palas Cat: 33th place in the meta wishlist and pretty simple Sand Cat reskin I suppose.

- Tarkin, 11th place in the meta wishlist or Makhor, 17th place in the meta wishlist.

- Patagoinan Mara: 27th place in the meta wishlist, however I don't particulary like this one, so I'd prefer Tarkin/Makhor or other penguin, but I know Patagonian Mara is more likely.

-An exhibit or WE, Preferably WE.

True, but that was most likely because people where still heavily expecting a bird, and the horned viper wasnt really the most exciting pick there was. And the mood about the arid pack overall was tainted with disappointment, which probably fueled the opinion on the snake
If its just gonna be copy paste sloths and bats from now on that would be way more disappointing than returning to standard exhibits, for me atleast

I’m really glad we’ve got more recognizable sloth species and I really don’t think that another species would change anything because it would be still closed in a box.

Sloth animations are great though so so it’s just a case to learn how to build with those boxes.
