Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Since golden monkeys are so controversial, well... Guys, do I have to talk about the African antelope and the Asian deer. One thing that has always bothered me is that as the continent with the most antelopes, Africa has a lot of unique features that are unique to Africa antelope. But as the continent with the largest number of deer species, Asia does not have a deer that is unique to Asia. Why is this? I've been so confused!
I’m not well versed on the other species, but I would love the Peere David’s Deer! The conservation work is great, and I saw a herd at the Bronx Zoo!

My fun fact here is that a single national park in India has as many deer species as all of Europe. But Europe has four species in the game and all of tropical/subtropical Asia have zero.

Which would be bad enough without factoring in that tropical/subtropical Asia also doesn’t have any of its antelopes in the game. And without factoring in that we have caprids from North America and Europe but not Asia, which is the world’s most caprid-rich continent.

Asia is really underrepresented compared to its ungulate diversity.

but I'm surprised no one has ever said anything about it.
Requests for Indian deer do occasionally happen when someone suggests an Indian animal dlc but those don't happen too often. I think people see asia with already an impressive sized roster thinking asia surely has to be close to completion without realising countless regions within asia still need basic representation.

Yeah bro, that's what I mean, how unreasonable it all is, but I'm surprised no one has ever said anything about it.
It has been talked to death before, especally around the red deers arival.
Also to make sense of frontiers choices, its less that they have a europe bias here and more that all 5 of europes deer species are just great contenders.
Red deer is arguably THE deer, the fallow deer looks very distinct from the red and is the third most common animal in the EAZA while also seperating itself with its docile nature, most unique antlers of the spotted deers and compatability for walkthroughs and petting zoos, the reindeer is THE tundra animal and the moose is the largest deer.
Even the roe deer makes a great case as a smaller and very common deer with a large range and distinct look, but just for variety sake id strongly prefer a musk deer which comes in the same size class

Yes, brother, this is actually the crux of the problem. As the area with the richest species, although many people say that Asia has enough species, in fact... there are really many fatal deficiencies.

But tropical deer are still lacking.

Appreciate it and I’m here to second you!

I think the must-have deer is a muntjac. My preference is for northern red muntjac as it covers Indian Subcontinent, Southern China and Southeast Asia, but any works.
I agree with you, bro. My desires are slightly different, it seems to me that cold climates, temperate climates, and hot climates each need a representative deer. In cold climates I would like to see white-lipped deer/ELK/roe deer, one of these three species. In temperate climate I would like to see Père David's Deer/sika deer/ tufted deer , one of these three. As for the tropics, I would like to see one of the four species: red muntjac/Visayan deer/sambar/Hog deer.

I wish we had more asian deer, but ngl i mostly want stuff that doesnt look like what we allready have.
My personal preferances would be that we get the hog deer and reevees muntjac for their small size, commoness in zoos in case of the muntjac and rising zoo population for the hog deer, peres david deer cause extinct in the wild and strong conservation story while looking distinct, a musk deer for the roe deer size coverage with an more interesting animal and the sambar for its large range and many color variations. Ofcourse this is more of a dream thing but i really wouldnt complain about any of them and do hope that we get atleast one more, preferably one of the 3 smaller ones
I also love sambar and hog deer.
