Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

And to yours regarding the extra Collectors—I went a bit further and changed also one Hull reinforcement for another 5A Collector. That has now 320 cargo and 16 drones, which matches freeing two of the sub-surface storage together!
3 more collectors - that sounds like I need to test this! that works very well, thank you! I don't wait 'til the pods of two storages are collected, I free all of them in one row at a time and have the feeling that this might be a little faster.

After having collected some more than 3000 pods on M.Taranis I thought about how to get a little more efficiency. The Titan holds about 500 pods, so why not collecting them in one run? Here's my modified Imp. Cutter with 512 tons of cargo and 16 collector limpets. A more risky build, but has proven to be suitable.

I had a feeling you would proceed to try something like that! If I make a tutorial, that will be worth mentioning in its afterword.

In the meantime, I just recorded video of the 320 cargo Cutter doing one full run:
  • Generally more smoothly!
  • Only 34 minutes this time, almost an entire ten minutes shorter than with the 192 cargo.
  • Less use of the Beam Laser, although the Sub-surface drills annoy the Titan eventually, and laser to the Titan amuses me as a means to cool the Shield recharge.
One tip I have for aligning those Missiles so exactly, very visible in that video, is to place a Fixed non-launcher weapon in the hardpoint which mirrors the Missiles—in my case that is the Thermal Vent laser, but it can be any Fixed weapon. Switching cockpit mode then gives a rudimentary way to visualise an isoceles triangle which places the Missile over the storage chamber at the needed range!

On the Periphery front it now reports 66%; obviously more is fine for carrying into next week, but equally it ought to be fine to pace things a bit if some rest is desired. I have an uneasy feeling that it is going to end up very close and having to make a very late delivery choice! I suppose delivery is correct if it comes down to the final hour, for it would be more of a disaster if those Matrix systems disappear without clearing the Control systems than only the former remaining and placing Swahku slightly out of reach for a week.

I think there is a good chance those spire sites are not getting cleared unless they see a massive rush on this Wednesday, given current rate of progression. Might still be worth keeping an eye on - kind of expect they’ll still go over 70% at Taranis here.

We're at 67% now. Should be 70% by end of USTZ tonight. And its Tuesday. Doubt we'll hit 80% tomorrow, but there's a chance for that number. either way. we will be here for the week at least :D

I too run a very similar cutter.. I have also tried a 25 limpet cutter with 256 and just drill like a mad man. Can usually beat the scythes. Kind of like this version better as I dont have to deal to much with the titan threat levels. Gather rate is fast.

Completing all Alerts, victories in HIPs 20890, 116360 and 19157, and in Vistnero!

A bit of care may be needed at M. Taranis with the Peripheral progress, which is on-course reliably for continuing next week, because HIP 23816 has attracted a bit of attention. The plan is still to complete one attacking system, the obvious choice being Hyades Sector GB-N b7-0, but where the former would also be fine. It will depend a bit on how the progress is looking later this evening; we would not want both completed if the Matrix systems survive, because it would make the final Matrix vulnerable prematurely!

Mostly for GXI, it would be as well to complete those M. Indra systems below, with which we can help if the target choice above leaves a bit of time.

Did FDEV change something around the Titans since yesterday? I have the feeling that there are much more Scythes stealing the pods...
Since 85% are reachable, do we know how much progress we get from delivering pods to the rescue ships?

So the 85% cap for the periphery could theoretically be reached today/tonight, but then the spire sites will likely remain in place for the next week.

Unless a lot more progress happens in the last few hours of the cycle. I spotted IXD’s message of supporting the initiative on DCoH, but even with that, it seems a little unlikely the spires themselves will be cleared in time.

That reminded me—I have updated the the top of the thread with the higher measurements listed earlier!

I have the feeling that there are much more Scythes stealing the pods...

If there are, one option could be to use what little power remains to bring a couple of Multi-cannons. The last time I fired upon a Scythe from the Titan surface, said Scythe actually decided to flee!

Since 85% are reachable

Reachable, yes—but do we actually want to deliver the cargo with the Matrix systems not completed? This is more so a question for @Ian Doncaster, and I am quite happy with whichever action seems to be best. Notably:
  • I thought the continuation plan was to complete only Hyades Sector GB-N b7-0, which will be done this evening if so.
  • Matrix progress beyond 85% is not really needed unless to reach 100%; the Control systems will remain behind and need more progress next week. The purpose of that would be if it is via Orthrus kills or if the Pods cannot be stored, in effect allowing a bit of future harvesting to take its place.
This still has the feel of an oncoming last-hour decision to deliver or not, for which I apologise in advance if the choice is incorrect!

Hmm. Without delivery except GB-N b7-0:
- next week same systems are peripheral again, and doing the same again finishes them all off
- week after there's seven Controls, possibly Njorog as an invasion, and whatever Alerts it can place without its current periphery systems... can't read out in my head if that's 2 or 3.
- if it's 2 that's easy, you can push to 85%ish to clean up the Controls, then finish off the spire the next week
- if it's 3 then you end up potentially having to finish Swahku alone next time if you can't stop Njorog being invaded as well ... but that does give more time for sample collection

Delivering everything to the original plan to recapture all peripheral controls but with the spire sites unfinished (which might need some last minute work to get them over the line):
- only 2 alerts placed next week, so the periphery is "everything but Swahku"
- then you clean up this week's spires and start on the final one
- you end up in a similar position to the "3 Alert" situation above, but with more risk of losing the final spire early.

I think there's probably a way to make it work, but sorting out just GB-N b7-0 and then hitting everything else next week (which should also leave more time for other activities, given that things should end up well over 67% today) looks like the safer (and easier) plan, with no particular benefit to pushing the spires to/past 85% this week.

I'll see if it's looking like 2 or 3 Alerts next week tomorrow once there's full data available, as that will determine how much Njorog's Invasion would be a problem.

if it's 3 then you end up potentially having to finish Swahku alone next time if you can't stop Njorog being invaded as well ... but that does give more time for sample collection

Hopefully the partial Peripheral progress helps to see that Alert away, but ultimately if we need one more place in the final ten then I imagine we could descend upon Hyades Sector FB-N b7-4 and finish it normally.

Thank you! I suspected that was the case, and it had occurred to me that we could make a good start with sizeable portions of M. Leigong disappearing. To commit to a continuation rather than inviting a stressful close call, and with exceptional thanks to SNPX—

I think @PapaDragon_I and I can deliver about 3.000 to 3.500 pods. We can do this today or - to avoid a last-hour decision - deliver them tomorrow (next cycle).

Hold them in your Carriers for now and deliver them tomorrow, if you would! I am unsure when will be the time for M. Oya, and I know you are doing a lot for M. Taranis, so please know that I am quite sure we can harvest your 18000 for Eoto when that time arrives.

As a final result, @Shayan al Nasarwa and I together have collected 3.864 Thargoid Bio-storage Capsule. We will sell them at the rescue ship as you said tomorrow after the tick.
o7 Cmdr
As a new tactic we went in there together. So two cutters in one instance. The advantages are, that the sythes can´t collect that many pods as all around 32 limpets work faster then just 16 collector limpets. What we also notice is that it seams the thargoids are focusing their efforts to collect the pods instead of shooting us.

Thank you, SNPX!

Hyades Sector GB-N b7-0 is delivered to maintain the M. Taranis periphery, and the Carrier is awaiting a jump towards those M. Indra systems. I am unsure whether GXI were going to take them and I will send out a message, but otherwise assume not and see what we can do as a bit of thanks for helping this week!

Victories in Hyades Sectors GB-N b7-0, PI-S b4-1, NN-S b4-0 and PI-S b4-2, and Ross 378! That was forty-three systems, keeping everything just ahead of the Thargoids while Commanders adjust to and act against the new Periphery strength.

M. Taranis needs two more Periphery completions, the first of which continues next week from around 50%, and for which the Periphery needs are now far greater than the individual completion needs. Due to the unpredictable nature of things Frontier decides to change, I will refer to the present state of M. Taranis as the "final twenty" to separate that from the specific week in which a completion occurs. The immediate number is closer to fifteen of course; imagine twenty as including new Alerts!

Longer-term I intend making a simple tutorial for building and using a Titan rescue vessel; I posted a video earlier, and I am making a Titan progress chart at the moment. In the meantime, spreading the word a bit could help—for Commanders who are Orthrus-slaying casually at another Maelstrom, the polite suggestion to consider M. Taranis instead! Hyades Sector DQ-O b6-0 is fine for observing when it is complete for the week, or HIP 25654 if it is preferable not to move around until everything is complete.

So, it's looking pretty good for the attack so far, if this week continues well and there hasn't been a further difficulty increase

Here's the current situation
Taranis-edges.png

If all periphery targets are successfully recaptured, that leaves Taranis with only one Alert - HR 1737 cannot efficiently be prevented from striking Trianguli CA-A c22. This means that it's not critical to stop the Alert at Njorog moving to Invasion - but it is necessary to stop at least two of the current four, which probably isn't the difficult bit.

This is also positive for the following weeks: if it is not possible to clear Taranis entirely next week, it will only be able to place two more Alerts - at BV-O b6-3 and FB-N b7-3 - which will not be sufficient to move Swahku out of the periphery (unless only two Alerts are prevented this week and the Thargoids manage to retain both of their successes at Invasion/Control for all the next week too; even then, contingency plans are available)

Shouldn't be a problem. Hyades Sector HW-M b7-5 is already done (cleared with 385 samples by CMDR Romarz). HIP 23716 is proceeding nicely with evacs and sampling and HIP 25679 (rough guess around 3000-3500 samples) is doable as well. If we get to clear Njorog (was 6800 samples before the increase, call it 7000 now, maybe a little over) that's great, if not Operation Kleenex will clear all the other Alerts and Njorog won't last more than a week in Invasion anyway.

We'll carry on clearing as many Alerts as possible so those working in Controls don't have to worry about the Thargoids getting any new Controls that way.
