I don’t get why people think that Africa being over represented is a bad thing. Like yeah, it has the most species of the game, but it also has the most unique animals in the game (aside from a couple ungulates) and it still has unique animals left to add.
I would take another pack of Africa content honestly if it means we get a baboon, Secretary bird, honey Badger, shoebill, crowned crane, hornbill, Masai giraffe, Gerenuk, waterbuck, etc.
My problem isnt that africas representation is unrealistic its that while everywhere else struggles to piece together a coherent section in a zoo africa has so many animals in the game currently that you have the luxury of choice when it comes to which animals to pick springbok and thomsons gazelles come to mind. I have no problem with africa getting more animals but it shouldnt come at the cost of the others which barely have the basics.
When people say Africa is "overrepresented" I've always assumed it was with the context that other iconic/highly-requested species are missing from the game in other regions (e.g., South America).
yes this all this everyone just misses the context and nuance africa is fine and there are definitely animals that could still be added but other areas are so lacking its a problem.
Even with the context, south america should never get the same representation as africa.
Is the context in the room with us
Idk why the "its usually not in open habitats" argument is a thing (for stuff like crowned pigeons and other ground based birds that is).
We got PLENTY animals that are usually kept in aviaries, topped of enclosure, or completely indoor settings and yet all of them are standard habitat animals. If realism is that factor here one can always build an aviary or cage for them
I dont get it either because there are plenty of non flying animals that arent kept in open air habitats yet no one cares about those. For me the biggest deciding factor is how does it move all birds can walk if needed but only birds that primarily walk or swim should be added doesnt matter if they are kept in open air habitats or not so things like vultures and hornbills really shouldnt be ingame even though they are fine in uncaged exhibits they would just look weird walking everywhere.
I want a desert pack as a do over from arid
This is basically like saying we need a desert pack when we have the arid animal pack, but we need it cause it could include different kinds of animals and the arid pack wasn’t named a desert pack.
The twilight pack was marketed as a Halloween and night pack. It’s the closest thing we’re gonna get to a nocturnal pack and most of the animals I’ve seen requested for a nocturnal pack being brutally honest, are not gonna sell a pack. There’s no icon animals left for it, and the other animals are not popular within the community, it can’t even take a couple off the meta wishlist. I wouldn’t even buy a pack like this.
we do need a desert pack though because arid failed so horribly at representing deserts. They picked the one desert area that already had alot of animals and said lets make a pack dedicated to that instead of the deserts in central asia, australia or the americas all of which are missing plenty of animals all arid did was ruin everything.
And btw I believe Arctic and Australia are the worst packs to throw my two cents in
they are honestly my most used packs entirely because of the scenery the only pack I use more is conservation
arctic has one of the worst animal rosters in my opinion the artic wolf is basically just a white timber wolf polar bear is good dall sheep is meh and the reindeer is aslo meh but i use the wood so much it makes such a good building trim its my second most used wood type next to the south asia set.
australias roster was disappointing mainly because the cassowary and dingo are just weird choices in terms of whats iconic to australia but I use that light wood everywhere and the metal pieces as well make great shed pieces
As far as australian birds go:
Emu > Kiwi > Little Penguin > Cassowary
But none of these are bad, just personal taste.
kiwi is not Australian just fyi
