Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I do think that it's interesting, though.

Back then (a couple years ago, I mean), when Frontier wasn't planning on adding something, they'd say "We have nothing to announce right now".

However, when it came to requests for birds, those messages were ignored (I don't mean that they ignored them, but that they didn't directly respond). Frontier has really shown that they listen to the community (at least the PlanZo community), so what is up with the bird demand? It's obvious they see it, but are they keeping it a surprise for us? Or are they gonna bring birds in slowly? Because they haven't given us the "We have nothing to announce" message regarding them, so it does make you wonder a bit
They’ve said in an interview that they “have nothing to announce right now concerning birds in Planet Zoo”, no?

I’ve always hoped for more birds, back when I got the game in 2020 I really wanted owls. I joined the forum this year I think, I used to post on Reddit before that. As I got more comfortable I began getting more vocal. I think the community as a whole got more into “where birds” during twilight like you said. Especially because many of the popular mammals were already in game so many people began looking at other animal groups. Also because of the bats if it wasn’t obvious enough.

The lack of birds has been a sore spot for me in this game, and while I have given up on flying birds I still have hope many habitat birds can be added. It’s just for years I kept on hoping we would get a bird pack, or a pack with more birds in it. Until Oceania I think the average was 0-1 birds per pack. I’m just feeling burnt out over it, and trying to still enjoy the game while tempering my hope :)

I agree with others though, I think it’s possible something is coming. I’m just not trying to get myself excited chasing ghosts.
Yeah that's completely understandable, I mean, look at the disappointment people had with Oceania not having rainbow lorikeets lmoa that was crazyyy

But one thing is not letting your hopes up to avoid disappointment, and another one is giving up completely, I will never give up on birds, specially when there are bats in the game (to be completely honest, I actually didn't have hopes for birds like macaws and the like until they announced bats). Like call me stubborn but it's nonsensical to not expect birds in Planet Zoo, the so called greatest zoo sim yet, it's just Frontier being evil and teasing us with flying creatures that are not birds.

When was this? Because also they've said a few other things weren't gonna be announced, but we have them now. Or am I wrong? I can't remember
Must be an old interview because I don't recall them saying anything like this in 2023.

They've stopped doing that in general, though, for the most part. I wouldn't read too much into that.

I reckon at this point, with so many flying animals in game, it will be a full on Aviary dedicated pack or nothing. Otherwise there’s no reason we WOULDN’T have gotten Rainbow Lorikeets in Oceania. If they were going to SLOWLY introduce birds, they would’ve started after the Tropical pack with Budgies in Arid and Lorikeets in Oceania. I reckon we’ll either see a full blown Aviary Pack or no flying birds at all.

I thought remember sometime ago before butterflies came to PZ there answer to that question was no. And about a yr or so later we have butterflies. I think for the most part frontier will always respond with we have nothing to announce right now. It shields them and honestly that is the safe way to reply. Butterflies and bats are not that much less complex than birds. If they can do those they can definitely do birds too. If they add them of course remains to be seen. The annoying thing is when people question their ability to do birds. It’s the aquatic underwater swimming assumption all over again and the short answer is yes if frontier wants to they most definitely can do birds. Habitat birds for flying birds? No that’s crazy they’d simply fly away. Looped animation birds for aviary or walk through? Of course easily.

For the past 3 years?? I'm pretty sure back then people were more focused on getting capybaras and sea lions into the game than birds. Like the "birds are coming" got traction with twilight because of the bats, or am I missing something here...
I would say birds are coming got traction after JWE2 reveal, 2,5 years ago.
Combination of 3 things:
  • We thought Frontier plan is to release more ,,ambitious,, packs such as Aquatic Pack in december peroids. So naturally people didnt thought about birds as much before next december.
  • JWE2 released trailer in meantime confirmed Frontier is capable of making free flight. Some people said about possible engine differences....
  • ...but if im not mistaken Frontier in meantime updated PZ engine to match JWE2 one

Everything was coming together. Anticipation for Aviary Pack was high, but then restaurant teaser dropped. It had more views than pack reveal itself. So, ya.

My general advice when you see a random user say "X is too hard so they won't do it" is just to ignore them because people talk out of their african wild ass and literally have 0 idea what Frontier is capable of doing.

What got traction from there is the incredibly annoying trend of "Planet zoo cannot have birds so they will do like JWE and add birds in a sequel" idea that is so incredibly dumbfounding

The porcupine is an example of this. A lotta people thought that the quills would be too much so they assumed it'll never come. Now look, we have an African crested porcupine in the game. To be honest, I'd say that making each and every single scale on the reptiles, especially the Crocs, is way harder than the quills

Nobody would’ve ever thought we’d get bats and butterflies. The same people would’ve said it was ‘too hard’ for Frontier. Now we have them. Nothing is ‘too hard’. There is no reason we can’t have flying birds in game.
Yeah pretty much!

I remember talking in the past how cool butterfly houses would be for pz but honestly I did not expect to ever get them, it was wishful thinking because let's be fair, butterfly houses aren't really something most people ask for a zoo. My surprise when we actually got them was out of this world lol.

I'm sure birds will also come, like how awkward would it be that you try to talk about someone about a zoo game where you can make a butterfly house but you cannot make an aviary? I would be ded 💀

This is a really good point. Especially when it comes to animations (they can literally transfer them between animals if I'm recalling correctly)...

If there's one thing Frontier has proven over the years is that if they want to add something to the game they will usually figure out a way to do it. It might not be ideal but... They can figure it out.

Sloths, bats, butterflies... Arboreal eucalyptus for the koalas. Unique rock-climbing animations for the alpine ibex. Marsupials. Digging and burrows. Really small baby animals. Foregoing the "egg" portion of babies for birds.

There's a lot of things they've done to just make things work that improve the game. I don't think it makes birds a foregone conclusion. But the "it's too hard" argument is on that doesn't really fly because they've done a lot of little "work-arounds" for other things over the years.

Why were marsupials ever an issue tho?
