Grand Opening of the Elephant Habitat in UNITY Zoo
The Ria Winter Friendship House feels like an Indian Dream
When you stand in front of the brand new Elephant House in UNITY Zoo, it feels a bit like you somehow travelled through space and landed in the middle of India.
“Theming is the future of zoos and we love to give our zoo guests an immersive experience”, Zoo Director Linda says about the Ria Winter Friendship House, named after and dedicated to her best friend Ria Winter.
Picture Description: The Ria Winter Friendship House feels like it has been taken right from India.
Beautiful tiles, vibrant colours and a touch of gold here and there make the elephant enclosure seem like a palace. In fact, the elephants of UNITY Zoo can live here like kings and queens. Picture Description: Even the entrance area is breath taking!
“With 5952 qm land area and a water area of 1146 qm with an average water depth of 3.18m the elephants have plenty of space to roam around, swim or even dive. Our guest can watch them play, eat and show their natural behaviour on three different view points: On the bridge inside the house, on the path way to the outside bridge and on the outside bridge, near the big outside pool with our little water splash enrichment.”
Picture Description: The huge enclosure from above
Compared to a lot of other elephant enclosures the one in UNITY also seems pretty lush. “We found a way to protect the plants from our elephant, so they can enjoy natural shading on a sunny day”, Linda explains the difference.
When asked why the house was named after her best friend she gets a little emotional. “Elephants are very social creatures and bond deeply within their herd. If one elephant acts out of character, for example it is stressed out or in pain, the other herd members will calm it down with patience and consistency. That’s what a good friendship should be: Having a good time together but also helping each other in times of crisis, so that every herd member can be or become the best version of themselves. That’s what living in an elephant herd is like and that’s what my friendship with Ria is like.”
May the Ria Winter Friendship House be a good place for long lasting friendships for animals and humans alike. Because true friendship is rich, colourful, and golden like this large habitat.
About Indian Elephants
Indian Elephants are an endangered species that lives in matriarchal groups. In UNITY the five females Manya, Priya, Kareena, Kavya and Myra live together with male Ishaan. The zoo hopes to have offspring soon, so that the existence of the species can be ensured.
Some additional pictures as press material for everyone that would like to report about the new enclosure.
Picture Description: Indian Elephant male Ishaan enjoys his food out of one of the many food enrichment items.
Picture Description: Priya loves to play with the water fountain of the little decorative animals on the inside pool.
Picture Description: The glass roof lets in a lot of sunshine as this picture of Kareena demonstrates.
Picture Description: Myra is enjoying the outside pool that is deep enough to dive.

Ria Winter is the author name of my best friend and she actually exists and is the most wonderful friend in the universe and in every possible reality. If you can read german and are interested in fantasy, you should check out her books. Needless to say, I love her more than Coca Cola and Crisps with Tzaziki, so that's a lot.
The Eastborro Zoo has recently opened a home for Binturongs! The two brothers, Kersen and Keiko, call this new habitat home.
“We really wanted to give these guys a good space to play and live. It took a little design work but it all came together in the end.” Says head designer Gina Oriole. “We gave them a two-tiered climbing tower, along with a corrugated plastic pipe on a rope. For some reason they’re not huge fans of the pipe.” She says.
The new habitat is located across from the sun bears on the yet-to-be named trail that sprouts off of the Asia Expedition trail. Another addition on the zoos Master Plan that could come soon is “Prancing in for the season,” the staff say.
Wow, I love this story telling y'all got here. Reminds me of when Konig, Fini, SanRazo, and I did something similar back in the day. Very nice. I'll see if I will join; not sure just yet but things seem pretty calm around these parts, so maybe I can
I didn't forget about this!
I will decide at the weekend which of my zoos I will register.
Unfortunately something came up and I haven't had the game on for a few weeks.
Maybe I'm thinking of building a "new" zoo. I think the ECO Zoo won't really fit and I would like something with more "depth" But I still need a bit of time (I don't always have that much time to play either)
Forum Entry from Doyle Westmoreland, called "Westy", Elephant Keeper in Unity Main
Elephants in Unity pregnant! "Hey lads and lasses! I'm so excited, I could pee my pants! Just recieved notice from the vet that the urine samples of Myra and Priya came back positive! The ladies are expecting! Tonight I'll enjoy an ice cold beer on Ishaans behalf, I'm telling you! I'm so excited, I could pee my bloody pants! Now hopeing for my fabvourite girl, Kareena, to get pregnant as well. She's such a lovely and gentle cutie, but the doc says she has some fertilitiy problems. Still believing my big boy can knock her up, though!"
"EDIT: OH MY GOODNESS! Kareena is pregnant!"
I am basically trying to give you guys insipiration for different options to play here. You do not have to present high levels of building work, you do not have to write a professional and indepth press release (I just do it because I like it and I'm a professional texter and writer IRL). I have the feeling some of you are a little intimidated. But it's way more fun to play when we are a bunch of players, so let me tell you: Any and every zoo is suitable.
Just imagine taking a walk in your own too and feel it real. What people would you met? Surely not only the PR guy or the architect. There is that keeper wondering how to get skunk smell out of her clothes, the cleaning guy that rants about all the dirt from the new building side or the educator having their first day at work. So if you did not play much lately, just answer to a job injury or create a phantasy forum post. Dip your toe in the water and flex your creative muscle.
Take the pressure out. @Orkan did such a good job by leaving the rules and requirements so open. We're really just waiting for YOU! Yes, you! You can absolutely do it and your zoo is perfect for this game. You do not need a new project, an old project, a big zoo, a little zoo... just take any project that is close to your heart and enjoy some imaginative extra time with it by make it come to life in this game. And if you're still hesitant or need a little help or ideas get started, my DMs are always open for some brain storming. Happy to help anyone out who wants to play but needs a little extra nudge.

I have plans on what I want to do and write and you report style of writing is definitely influencing my plans they are really well put together I just havent had alot of time to build recently im also sort of waiting to see if the new dlc will change any of my building plans aswell and ill hopefully be more in december. Keep up the good work your definitely an inspiration.
Thank you, I appreciate the encouraging words.
I might do another press release when I start the new section in the zoo or something. The Gharial habitat I almost finished and the upcomming Dhole habitat doesn't seem press worthy. But I might do another role play post with an offspring announcement with a keeper point of view As I said, it doesn't always need to be something huuuge.
I am writing to you as the director of Spin the Wheel Animal Rescue to enquire about membership of the International Union of Zoos. Whilst our operation is relatively small and we could only associate with your network with some strict conditions in place that meet the ethos and principles of our organisation we think a relationship could be mutually beneficial. We would not consider ourselves a zoological institute in the typical sense of the word as we only house rescued animals from the former pet trade, customs seizures and from other animal resues and we operate a strictly non-profit financial model.
However, we do have a very strong relationship with Just So Ltd, the worldwide network of zoological gardens and are confident that a similar relationship could be brokered with your industry body. We do operate a breeding facility for a limited number of species that are part of an endangered breeding programme. At the moment this includes a small colony of Lehmann's Poison Frogs, our pair of resued Siberian Tigers and our small flock of Red-crowned Cranes. In addition to potentially loaning and receiving animals as part of these efforts and future breeding projects for endangered animals we would also appreciate the advice and guidance your network could offer on the husbandary of our animals, particularly as many of them have significant issues with stereotypical behaviours and poor health.
See below for our full list of species although we are expanding rapidly as unfortunately the poor regulation of the animal trade around the world has created an almost bottomless well of need for myriad species.
Many thanks for consideration, we hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks for your swift reply. Our rescue facility and all our animals is located in South Africa in the Western Cape although we are an international organisation so our charity headquarters is based in the UK.
