Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

So, what have we figured out in 369 pages?

BASICALLY CERTAIN:
There will be a DLC in December 2023 (steamdb, established release schedule)

HIGHLY LIKELY:
Said DLC will be an animal pack (established pattern of 2 animal/2 scenery packs a year)

REASONABLE SPECULATION:
The DLC theme will have a temperate or cold-weather focus (meta-wishlist, previous 3 packs being the opposite)
The wolverine will be one of the new animals (aforementioned cold-weather hypothesis, new meta-wishlist #1)
Yaa and I think this will be as far as we can go until the special live stream.

I mean if we get the three of them sure, would be awesome and would not be opposed to the American flamingo (even though i want the Andean one), but i fear will get just the American flamingo and no ibis/spoonbill because is easier and cheaper to make, just a straight up clone.
I agree. On its own, the American flamingo is going to feel like the laziest way to finally let us have a bird for the Americas (still among the better ''clones'' for this area). But if we get just one other wetland/coastal bird species with a similar range, I would welcome the flamingo with open arms. That would mean two birds for a themed aviary, making it much more valuable.

I also got some cooking tips from the last few pages

The special live broadcast may be next Thursday

I personally think, the livestream (if there is one) will be on Tuesday und the pack reveal will be thursday

Last year we got the Livestream for Winter DLC on thursday I think. I know for sure we got the DLC announcement at a friday last year. But let us see If they Go the normal way or the way Last year. At least we really should know more in one week.

Edit: If they follow the pattern from the Last 3 years we should get the DLC at the second tuesday in December which is the 12th.

Also we found out the community's undying love for domestics, yak, walrus, golden snub nosed monkey and how overrated the baboon is :D
To summarise, "this community only likes something until they realise everyone likes it, then suddenly they like something else better". I honestly do not believe the love for the snub-nosed monkey is anything other than naked contrarianism for the most part.

All I see is yet another person who doesn't like the golden monkey and wants to call people out for it, nothing new there. People do switch and change desires, someone building a cold climate zoo would vastly prefer a golden monkey rather than the warm climate zoo that they finished that needed a baboon.

Honestly though, I understand the point of representing zoos in specific countries. But that should take a backseat to species that are almost ubiquitous in zoos worldwide. Ergo, Hamadryas Baboon best because it's objectively more usable in zoos. Don't really know why this is a hot take now. I'm all for species with little captive presence (I want the saiga and leopard seal for goodness sake), but a Hamadryas Baboon objectively adds more to the roster by giving a dry-climate monkey. We literally already have an East Asian mountain-dwelling primate in the macaque.

That's leaning a little towards the disparaging side. I think we're a bit of a smarter community than that. I see it more as:

  • most of us want more monkeys in general, so are pro any monkey
  • for a few of us, it's a strong desire because of it being GOOOOOLD and blue
  • some of us are just having fun and a bit of banter
  • a few people hate it bc it's a marmite-creature (marmite is a British spread with the tagline 'you either love it or hate it' - I know you have a tasty NZ equivalent but just for anyone else reading who doesn't get the reference) (I'm a love-it gal, marmite is king)
  • some people have the legit critique that the Japanese macaque fills the same niche in terms of biome and region, and would prefer the focus to be on other primates
  • As a counter, people are saying it is worth adding bc its appearance is so distinct
  • Edit: others have added that it is ubiquitous in East Asian / Chinese zoos and it feels like it's missing from the game

I don't think anyone here is sheeple or being contrary for the sake of it. Everyone has reasons for what they say.

I wanna say something. I think a game lasts as long as its community. When I went to the JWE forum, they were doom speaking that the Cretaceous DLC is either the last or 2nd to last DLC. They tend to be more doomers than we are here. Engagement doesn't seem very good like it does here.

Yeah, we doom talked a few times, but in general I think the community is more upbeat and positive about the future of the PlanZo experience. We know that support is limited, but we show a huge passion for the game and want to squeeze whatever we can outta it. We're constantly making speculation threads, wishlists, and overall working together to figure out what the game will get and what the game needs.

That is all🙃

Well yesterday while being out all day my phone was dead so I spent the whole day thinking of what animals I would want to build for the most regardless of the pack that’s coming. Here’s what I came up with:
  1. Gelada / Hyrax Mix
  2. Barbary Sheep / Markhor / Tahr
  3. Bear (ABB or Spectacled either way they end up in the Americas)
  4. Tree Kangaroo or Echidna
  5. Vicuña / Guanaco
  6. Spider Monkey
  7. Serval (I have a really cool idea involving netting)
  8. Pelican.
  9. Wolverine (filler in NA section)
  10. Wapiti (also NA filler)
  11. Secretary Bird
  12. Takin
  13. Roseate Spoonbill (I could add this onto the Americas Pavilion)
  14. Arctic Hare
  15. Waterbuck / Grey Crowned Crane (need one more for the African Wetlands.)
As long as the next pack takes at minimum one animal off this list I will be good.
