Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

This pack would be glorious! Personally, I'd swap out the rhea for something else (e.g., spectacled bear, bush dog) and I'm still not convinced the tamarins make sense as WTE animals but regardless... This pack would be an instant purchase for me based solely on the provision of the coati, ocelot, howler, tamandua, and mara!

I mean, they don't really hint at themes but there's usually something in the update that relates to the DLC. They've gotten much better at masking what that is over time but it's there.

Like, the addition of the viewing domes in the last update fit perfectly with the smaller animals from the Oceania pack, revisions to the exhibit system made sense with the bats in the Twilight pack, and so on. But they've gotten much better about not providing the "give-away" stuff (e.g., new foliage) until the new DLC drops.

There's usually enough to say that it could tie to a certain aspect of a DLC but pretty hard to pinpoint it compared to like, them saying you're getting free tropical rocks like they did ahead of the SA pack.

Most importantly, it mentions they're going to continue to support the existing games so... If anything, I think that bodes well. At least until another game is announced and/or released.

It would be an odd move to pull the plug on things that are clearly earning them a consistent income stream at this juncture.

Yes, it says "we will continue to develop and support our portfolio of existing games, including Elite Dangerous, our F1® Manager franchise, and Realms of Ruin". But the fact that those games are mentioned, and not the others, is concerning. Planet Zoo is mentioned alongside Planet Coaster, and both Jurassic Worlds with a past tense. Like a category of successful games that are still profitable but no longer have support or it's about to end.

For the first time in a lot of months, I'm on the pessimistic side, I'm afraid that third new game (result of the board changes) is PZ2 and that means lots of big updates will be saved for that instead of coming to PZ. I really hope to be wrong, though.

I'm not reading too much into the specific wording in that paragraph because they spent the entire paragraph before emphasizing how successful those were/still are. Especially since they're contractually obligated to update F1, and I'd imagine the same is probably true of the Warhammer game.

I would expect them to stop Planet Zoo support after the next CSM game drops but that's probably toward the end of next calendar year if I had to guess. Which kind of exceeds my expectations for support duration at this stage, anyway...

Those 3 games are mentioned because they are not construction and management simulation games (CMS). They are saying that they are going to focus on their successful CMS games, but they are also keeping some of their other games like the F1 one. The message is supposed to calm the players of those games, not to worry the players of the CMS games (which include planet zoo.

I am personally convinced that PZ will have Support at least until a new Planet Game is released. Especially since there is some financial Trouble. Perhaps our Support will be decreased by smaller updates and less or no Scenery (I think there is a chance that the Last Packs whenever we get them could concentrate on animal Packs) because these ressources are put to other games. But a company which has to come back to better financial success needs fresh money income and this is generated by sales. Just my opinion and I might be wrong at the end. But this is the way I think about it.

this is the perfect scenario for ‘mini packs’, like some Easter scenery and a rabbit for Easter, or a turkey and some fall stuff for thanksgiving

Those would be amazing.

Personal dream would be Planet Garden - act as a landscape architect and nurture your client's garden through the years and seasons or start your own. There's no good realostic simulation for planning a garden that I know of other than farmsim and that's a very different scale...
That would be fun! I would love an option to build a natural garden, and doing that maybe I could attract native wildlife. Imagine building a small garden for hummingbirds, or butterflies, or night pollinators. Or maybe building a garden with natural berries or seeds for the birds. That would be a lot of fun for me!

I would also like doing a park builder. By Park I mean National Park. Maybe you get a randomly generated environment to care for, and you can manage the following:
  1. Entrance area, which can contain gift-shops, bathrooms, changing areas, food, and more.
  2. Trails, be able to build trails which can be highlighted and named. A map can be provided, like the Map feature in Zoo Tycoon 2.
  3. Signs, which can contain the previously mentioned map or it can be educational, talking about habitats, plants, animals, etc.
  4. You can manage local wildlife only in the literal sense, like if you have a problematic animal that is attacking hikers.
  5. Speaking of hikers, you will have various visitors to your park. Depending on the type of park you may have the more casual visitor, or a very serious mountaineer or outdoorsman. Like in Planet Zoo you will have to manage visitors, maybe building cabins/ rest areas a long dangerous or long trails.
  6. For wildlife either you can place them, or they will be naturally generated. But depending on the habitats you build you may attract different animals. I think something cool is if you can decide to build a conservation program on your grounds. Like if you have a European park you can decide to manage the Wisent on it.
  7. For “bad visitors” you will have your more tame people: walk off trails, off leash dogs, as well as more serious problems: like poachers, or even arsonists (more often than not, an accidental fire starter)
  8. For Staff you can have a number of people working under you: park wardens, game wardens, researchers, etc.
I understand this can be “replicated” in Planet Zoo, but I think it could be really fun. Especially for people who didn’t want to make a normal zoo in Zoo Tycoon 2, and wanted to make something natural.

I want this game

I think support is wrapping up in 2024. I think it will go:

Winter - Highlands / Mountains
Spring - Farm
Summer - Latin America / Amazon

Autumn + 5th Anniversary if we're VERY lucky, and that may be it. PZ2 in 2025.

I hope I'm right that we get through to next summer, and wrong that it ends soon after that.

I think they wanted to do birds from the outset but hit lots of bumps, realised it wouldn't work / use too many resources for PZ1, and are saving their ideas and rigs up for PZ2. I'd love it if PZ2 has mulitplayer. Would anyone like to play with me 🙃

Let's book it in for that hypothetical scenario 😁
Yes, let’s do that!

I‘m wonder how it would work in the first place. Like, there isn’t really an avatar or anything, you’re just a camera flying around placing stuff. Maybe a drone? And then if you go into explore mode you can be your avatar? It would need some thinking,

Along with avatars, I really wish there was more customization when it comes to them.

Hmm yeah it really depends on what they do with PZ2. I reckon you could just float around in the same zoo building different things? But then deciding when to play and when to pause might be clunky. Tricky one! Maybe it would be a way to expand Franchises?

Yeah they're pretty lame! Although I guess they're just the same options as the zoo guests, and for them I am glad the focus is on the animals and not the people. Having them all cartoonish and silly looking makes them less of a distraction, in a way.

I think they will go through the full year. At least until the 5th Birthday. They will not let Pass this Chance to get this milestone I think. And then potentially a farewell Pack on Christmas or even in spring 2025 as this Pack still belongs to FY2024. And I do not really expect a PZ 2 earlier than 2 to 3 years after support ended for the first game. Again own thinking with no guarantee of realism.

Is FY2024 April 2023-2024 or is it April 2024-2025? I'm not sure how it works. Three games in three years is a lot, I wonder if all three are planet games or if this includes licensed games?

Either way I think one of them is probably Planet Coaster 2 and another is probably a new series.
