Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Is FY2024 April 2023-2024 or is it April 2024-2025? I'm not sure how it works. Three games in three years is a lot, I wonder if all three are planet games or if this includes licensed games?

Either way I think one of them is probably Planet Coaster 2 and another is probably a new series.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but i think FY24 will end on May 31st 2024.

I was just reading the FY23 report and found this statement promising PZ support into 2024. We probably already dicussed it, but I forgot it exsisted. l'm thinking DLC at least through June is likely, which will hopefully extend through the rest of the calender year.

"Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo performed especially well, each supported by four new PDLC packs releasing in FY23, alongside free content. In FY24 new PDLC
packs and free content for both Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo have already been released, with more planned during this financial year."

List of possible themes (imo)
  • Tundra (Musk Ox)
  • Latin America (Grey Fox)
  • Amazon (Black Howler Monkey)
  • Boreal (Hare)
  • Eurasia (Mouflon)
  • Cloud Forest (Tree Kangaroo)
  • Safari (Bat-eared Fox)
In parenthesis is an animal I'd want most, NOT what I think is possible in all cases...
Of all the themes I think most likely is probably Tundra because of the wolverine.
I'd hope for Safari (even though bat-eared fox will probably not be in game officially) :(
OR, maybe Eurasia
Eurasia Animal Pack
  • Wolverine
  • Sichuan Takin
  • Markhor
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Blackbuck
  • Pallas' Cat
  • Tanuki

It's around May 31st if not exactly then. Based on that, the Arid and Oceania packs technically fall within FY24 so they could arguably end support after the December pack and fulfill what they say in that statement (they didn't say "throughout this financial year," just that there are more coming which could arguably be one more pack each for PZ and JWE2).

I don't think that's the case and I'm not trying to lean into "doom-speak" because I think we have at least 1-2 more packs remaining after December (if not more) but not necessarily because of those statements haha.

@CharlieXGaming I think the building system of PK is very well done. Maybe even better then planet zoo. I think if PK ever gets finished it will easily give PZ a run for its money. That being said I still think the world of PZ and still enjoy it like the first day it launched but overall if there’s one thing that hurt PZ was the lack of competition. Competition brings out the best in a game and forces developers to take risks and chances. Which as constructive criticism PZ has lacked at times.

Hmm, yeah there aren't always hints but we have sometimes had some good ones from the free updates:

  • Update 1.1: Aurora borealis hinting at Arctic DLC
  • Update 1.2: Tropical rocks and foliage hinting at South America pack
  • Update 1.4: Deep swimming, underwater feeder and water temperature hinting at Aquatic pack
  • Update 1.8: Burrows hinting at a burrowing animal, which was the badger in the Europe pack
  • Update 1.9: Terracing terrain tool and bathing behaviour hinting at Wetlands pack
  • Update 1.11: Flippin the bins hinting at Raccoon in Twilight pack, and walkthrough exhibits hinting at.....well, bats it turned out
  • Update 1.15: No hints needed as they came out at the same time, but lava rocks etc
The Arid pack introduced the camel behavior in the llama and Bactrian! Also, the piebald in 1.11 was red foxes too it turned out. :)
My Eurasia animal Pack would be:
Wolverine
Wild Boar
Blackbuck
Pallas Cat
Sloth Bear
Markhor
Capercaillie
Any Exhibit
I forgot Wild Boar... Oops, that's pretty much a necessity for an Eurasia pack.

I am thrilled to see Eurasia catching on. However, since we just got the freebie Peccary, if they were to do a Eurasia pack I would worry the Wild Boar would not be in the pack. While they're high on the general list of animals from Europe/Eurasia/Asia, it feels like having another pig-type so soon would not be vary likely. And yet, to me it almost seems be a "must" to be included in the pack.

I get that fear. However, I think the community would be fine with a Boar right after the Peccary. Or, at least I know we on the forums would be. Right?

It’s not that it wouldn’t be well received it’s just that it’s very unlikely we get two pigs back to back, doesn’t seem like a frontier thing to do as the only time this has happened is the foxes in Africa and NA packs.

It, makes me sad to say this...
I don't want to say it but I will. IF we got Golden Jackal, I'd use it as a sub for the African Wolf and so, I'd be less desperate for bat-eared fox. It's my favorite that I want in game most.... But, the Golden Jackal would fill part of its niche as a smaller Serengeti type canid. If that makes any sense.

Bat Eared Fox would be a great Addition. After the Bush Dog my number 2 of dogs. These are the 2 remaining "Essentials". At least in my opinion. I do not really want another Dog species but If we should get a so called "oddball" Pick Like the Golden Jackal it would also be okay for me.

"oddball" Pick Like the Golden Jackal
Oddball is exactly how I'd classify the Jackal as well. My "essential canid" is Bat-eared Fox. It is the last one I need.
If we don't get bat-eared fox I'd like:
  • Any Jackal (a safari type smaller canid)
  • Bush Dog, Grey Fox, OR Tanuki (primitive canids in their markings and/or short legs)
Disclaimer: We don't need any more canids. I still personally want them though :)
Somehow, I see the Golden Jackal as more realistic chance of getting into the game. IDK why. Maybe because its a jackal as opposed to yet another fox.

but we have gotten like ten canids before. :)
Arctic Wolf
Dingo
Dhole
Fennek
Arctic Fox
Red Fox
Maned Wolf

Only 7 😃. But I think dogs and even more especially cats are somehow an exception because of their General popularity. And the third exception are ungulates especially antelopes as These are the backbone of a IRL Zoo. I never can get too much ungulates (especially antelopes are much more diverse as people might think) but I am not the majority in this case I fear.

But I think the Wild Boar would be not that big Problem. It also would be very likely pur last (wild) Pig species within the Game. I really do Not think we will get an "oddball" Pig species.

Yeah, especially cats. Even people who dislike the overrepresentation of mammals in the game are ok with Ocelot, Serval etc...
Antelopes (hoofstock in general) are important for the game because they are charismatic and irl zoos have dozens of species of them. I think cats, antelopes and IMO dogs are all fine to add more of. But,
an animal that is super charismatic, warm-blooded and underrepresented?
Birds... Even the bigger (i.e. doable) species like cranes and rhea and swans would add to better representation of birds.
And finally, what we really need more of is insects and the like. We need maybe dozens more!
At the end of the day, PZ should be somewhat reasonable cross section of the real life diversity in zoos.
