Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I will fight for antartcia till I die irrelevant of the challenge but I do think it is at least somewhat relevant after a year of hot weather themes they do a tundra challenge probably just acclimatising us to the idea of cold animals

also as far as I know the sloth we have is still fairly rare in south america its not common just more common than outside of south america though the platypus analogy is probably not a bad one as they are not even that common is australian zoos its just that most major zoos have them.
I think the difference between the two is that for a sloth there's other options of more common species. For the platypus, there's nothing else like it.

Dama gazelle even though it's so recent. If I wanta gazelle I'd rather use Thomson's and if u want a desert antelope I'd rather use the addax.

Well, I'm not saying everyone should play like this at all, but it's immersive (and fun!) for me to look after my animals' welfare. It's unrealistic for me to run a zoo that I don't feel is ethical.

I have worked with elephants in rescue orphanages in Sri Lanka and spent time with them in rehabilitation to the wild programmes in Laos. I've visited conservation centres in Borneo reintroducing orangutans in the wild, and spent time with them - rewilded, in the actual, wild jungle. Seeing a rehabilitated mother orangutan with her newly born wild baby was one of the best experiences of my life. I've volunteered a lot for conservation and it's at the very core of my heart and being.

Many smaller zoos no longer keep elephants due to the poor welfare they suffer in small captivity settings (eg London Zoo). The game lends itself better to zoo builds than national parks, with large wild areas for animals to freely roam, where I believe these animals are best looked after for their wellbeing and for conservation. The better of two evils regarding conservation vs welfare for animals in zoos is a big debate and not one I care to get into here, but my feeling is that conservation works best in the animals' natural origin and environment, rather than in cages on the other side of the world. So for me, the immersion that is broken is the type of zoo that I want to run and can have fun imagining I'm building and running.

Edit to add: I also volunteered at a small UK zoo, where they kept tigers that they described as a 'sacrifice' so that they could draw in guests and keep funding the work they were doing for smaller animals. The keepers there were sad about having to still keep these poor tigers around and made their habitat as nice as they could, but it was small.
That doesn’t sound like a zoo at all, it sounds like something masquerading as a zoo to exploit animals and turn a profit. I’m sorry you experienced that.

I’ve worked at four different accredited and conservation focussed zoos and they are incredible places where animal welfare is held to an astonishingly high standard. The animals were given food that was the same quality as 5 star restaurants, to make diets that were designed through international expert collaboration, they have the best vets in the world, so much dedication to keeping them happy and behaviourally enriched, their keepers were obsessed with providing the best lives for their animals.

We need conservation focussed zoos to keep these animals from becoming extinct because, sadly, in a lot of natural habitats their lives are even worse than the roadside zoos.

Back on topic, I can’t believe no announcement yet! If it happens tonight I’ll be asleep ☹️

Thomson's gazelle is really fine, it's just that we didn't need both it and the springbok on day 1. If having a very cloney antelope was the goal, I would've much rather gotten the roan antelope or Arabian oryx or something.

It was a non-profit conservation-focused wildlife park in the UK, I won't name and shame it but they really do try their best. They do amazing work in conservation and also run a local wildlife hospital (that's actually how they started). The tigers they keep are cross-subspecies, so their genes aren't of value to conservation, and they were rescued from places that otherwise would have put them down. So, it wasn't a roadside operation at all - I wouldn't touch one of those with a bargepole. Still, it was sad, and the keepers wished they didn't have to keep large cats at all, but they brought in income which all went to excellent use.

Lovely work you've done :)

Pretty quiet here, considering there was a party here yesterday. Does everyone have a hangover? 🤭
I'm still recovering from work Monday 🥶
I find it hilarious how outraged people are about the “wrong type” of sloth.
I don't think people were filled with rage, just more vocal about disappointment that it was a species they don't see
It’s hilarious how people were outraged by the proboscis monkey or sloth but have nothing against little penguin or quokka with close to 0 representation in Europe.
Quokka is present in only one zoo in Europe.
There was some disappointment with the quokka, but because we have a large Oceanian playerbase, it didn't hit as hard as the proboscis monkey and the sloth. Plus, the quokka is just a meme at this point that many players were willing to look past it
PZbros................ it's zoover...........................................................
It's not over until the Planet Zoo movie is announced, bud

I have a challenge: You need to pait the DLCs into bundles to be sold together. Which DLCs do you pair and why?
Interestingly a guy asked that yesterday somewhere else and... it really depends on what your personal preferences are in terms of animals,
however I do think that to have a good basic roster the bundle I would make is Base game + First year DLCs (Arctic+SA+AU+AQ) + NA pack.

I want your life.

I want your life.
<3 I've been lucky. I lived in SE Asia for ~7 years so I got to experience a lot. I taught English and used all my money and free time for travel and volunteer work. Volunteering also enabled me to meet people and make connections, and hear about amazing programmes, and get to travel and see them behind the scenes. I'm back in the UK now and miss volunteering, so now I guess I'm putting my effort into imaginary zoos! But you're in SA right? Or is it Central America? Must be amazing wildlife around you there! A part of the world I haven't travelled to yet - so I want your life rn :)

Wetlands, Aquatic and South América: has iconic important animals missing from the scenery pack
Grasslands, Oceania and Australia: same as above
Twilight and North América: it expanda animal roster
África and Arid pack: scenery and animals complement each other
SEA and Tropical: same as above
Europe and Arctic: both have christams feeling. plus adds reindeer to Europe.

I don't know which one i'm missing lol

Yeah we have a lot of exotic fauna all around the country and i also have been to Brazil and Perú and was able to spot a lot of cool animals over there, but don't have the time to volunteer anywhere like that SO i just visit places on vacation 🥲
