Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Special Livestream announcement today for tomorrow, update + DLC announcement this Friday, an Animal Pack, so 2 weeks to wait, for a release on 14th December.
Seems legit.
Are there already updates on the Steam files  ?
The steam DB has been going wild for weeks. I’m so hoping an announcement is happening today! This schedule seems super likely to me 🤞🤞

I would prefer the tundra pack simply because of the animals it would bring to the game. To me nothing fits the holiday season in a traditional sense better. I do like the idea of a mountain pack but this type of pack fits almost anytime of year. One problem with tundra animals is their not super common in zoos but do exist at least. To me the Muskox, walrus, wolverine, marmot, hare, etc would make the perfect end of year pack. The exhibit animal would be the difficult one to come up with. The snowy owl would make the perfect candidate but frontier has not shown much commitment or possible interest in doing flying birds at this point so that’s the mystery of the pack right there.

Just to take a break from tundra...

Wolverine, arctic hare, red squirrel, American black bear, wild boar, fisher, raccoon dog, great grey owl

It's not really a VERY wrong species as it is apparently common South American zoos. In the same vain the platypus would have been a wrong species for a zoo game, which I'd also say isn't really the case 😅

On an unrelated note, did everyone switch to a Tundra Pack because of the Tundra animal challenge? The challenges have never been related to the upcoming DLC, we guessed incorrectly in the past because of that 😂
I know there are some zoos/sanctuary that have them, but every zoo that i want to in the last years they had the Two Toed Sloth so I said VERY wrong because not only they become a staple zoo animal, also they were on the top 10 in the meta-wishlist so many people's wanted the Two-Toed Sloth. So i think it's very wrong species choice. But ofc I'm happy for the people's who wanted that species of sloth and I have huge hope to get the two toed sloth in the game with better exhibit design too.

I find it hilarious how outraged people are about the “wrong type” of sloth.
It's not that we are outraged, just ofc more of the casual fans are probably much more happy with the inclusion of that sloth species. But just for me personally and for the people's who wants to create a realistic zoo, then we need to have animals that you will find in so many zoos.

This argument holds if the two-toed is not to be found in SA zoos at all, which I doubt is the case. If they are both there, then the two-toed is an equally good option for realistic zoos in SA as the three-toed is. Then we might as well go with the two-toed since it also makes sense for the rest of the world.
IMO the platypus is a different case since there really isn't an alternative to it.

If it really is tundra, here is some animals I think could be in it:
  • A subantarctic/antarctic penguin - Rockhopper is the most popular choice but Gentoo is another option, would work well as a mix with Kings we already have and are the most obvious pick left for an antarctic animal. We just got a penguin but I don't think that is a barrier, we got two foxes back to back in 2021.
  • Sea Otter, - not a typical "tundra" animal but they live all the way up to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and are quite a popular cute animal, I think that would sell for a lot of more casual players. Eurasian/North American River Otter also technically an option.
  • Rocky Mountain Goat - not brought up much and probably not the most popular caprine but they do live up to the northern subarctic tundras and would be quite easy to make.
  • Muskox - the big arctic tundra ungulate, kind of an obvious pick for this pack.
  • Waterfowl - Lots of good options here, Snow Goose, Spectacled Eider, Whistling Swan, Emperor Goose, Red-Breasted Goose
  • Auks - I've warmed up a bit to these being habitat animals, Puffin most popular but the murre/guillemot is a good option.
  • American Black Bear - Yea not typical of the tundra but honestly it could work (just imagine Frontier got them mixed up with the Arctic Fox in 2021)
  • A grouse of some kind - capercaillie most popular option. Should be easy to make from the peafowl rig.
  • Wolverine - The favourite of the forums currently, which can work in a lot of packs and this is of course one of them.
  • Siberian Musk Deer - A bit of a sleeper pick, but they are native to tundras and work as a good filler species.
  • Walrus - Best for last, I think this would probably be the big sell and the headliner of any tundra pack.
There is 11 ideas for habitat animals and here is my ideal but still somewhat realistic roster out of these:
  1. Walrus
  2. Wolverine
  3. Muskox
  4. Southern Rockhopper Penguin
  5. Siberian Musk Deer
  6. Sea Otter
  7. Red-Breasted Goose

And this isn't mentioning animals from Alpine Tundra, only those of the polar and subpolar regions so there is still potential for some mountain based animals in a tundra pack... In fact it could potentially free up space for animals from warmer climate mountains in a future mountains pack. For exhibit animals, I'm still really not sure, just something more interesting than the wood frog please lol.
Oh, I was not quite aware of your game. But you have my attention.

It’s hilarious how people were outraged by the proboscis monkey or sloth but have nothing against little penguin or quokka with close to 0 representation in Europe.
Quokka is present in only one zoo in Europe.
I think it has to do with the fact that there are not that many players from Asia on the forums, but there are alot of players from Oceania. Even then, Proboscis Monkey is like in 2 zoos in Asia (?), while the Oceania pack animals are in dozens of zoos in Australia and/or NZ. I personally do not mind the Proboscis Monkey that much, but it is rare in captivity even within its native range.

Even then I remember seeing the little blue penguin in the Bronx Zoo, and the kiwi in Franklin Park Zoo. The Tasmanian devil, quokka, and flying fox I haven’t seen in person. For me they are like the golden snub nosed monkey or American black bear. Not useful for everyone, but for people from those countries they are very useful animals.

Compared to the proboscis monkey, an ordinary, relatively common langur might be better.
