Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I feel like a lot of these "Himalayan" areas popping up are basically just snow leopards, red panda and then one other random species. I wish there was some more originality. Like here in the UK there is multiple Himalayan themed areas with snow leopards (honestly I think at least 10 by now) but literally only one zoo with caprines in its Himalayan area... and luckily it is a good one. At Highland Wildlife Park the snow leopards share their enclosure with markhor (not at the same time, they rotate) which provides a sense of enrichment in smells and stuff.

They do? As a local I have never seen the markhor in the snow leopard habitat in the past decade.

The tierpark berlin has a really great one. They display snowleopard, takins, markhor, kiang, red panda, francois langur (for some reason), bearded vultures and a couple more that im probably forgetting

Yea from what I have heard at least. My memory is also fuzzy but when I visited I remember seeing no snow leopards on my first walk round but I did see markhor in a similar looking enclosure and then I saw them elsewhere later when I saw snow leopards. So maybe I saw the rotation? I'll attach a photo.

The Himalaya at Tierpark Berlin is great. Lots of species but they are also hard to compete with when it comes to that.
I was in Wuppertal earlier this year and their Himalaya is still WIP, their takin enclosure stood finished and that was very nice! I believe they had between 5-10 species planned for it.
But yes, many areas are mostly just snow leopards and red pandas.

Yes! I actually visited it before it was a Himalayan area! :D

Back then it was mostly just for a HUGE caprine collection, off the top of my head they had multiple subspecies of takin, markhor, chamois, ibex, argali, Chinese goral, mouflon, Rocky Mountain goat, bharal... and I'm probably missing a few.

Some photos (February 2018):

Oh and for good measure they had the big guys as well lol:

I think the only zoo in Europe which surpassed this was Tallinn, which I've heard has an insane caprine collection.

That picture looks like the upper markhor habitat, which is right next to the snow leopards and looks near identical. There could very well be a rotation, it's just something i have never encountered.

They released the Arctic Pack on the 17th, and plus we don’t know what frontiers plan is, they could just release it a week from Christmas then update the bugs after the break in the first/second week of January.

I don’t see them speeding up the schedule that fast though to 2 animals a day. A pack needs time to build up suspense, and while it worked for Oceania cause it only had 5 animals, an 8 animal pack fit into 1 week, it doesn’t seem like it will give all the animals the spotlight they deserve and it will feel rushed.
That's like saying the "fall" or "summer" pack should release in August or September because that's when the Outback DLC dropped. You can't really count the dates for 2/3 of the initial DLC packs, from my perspective (SA was an exception as that tied to the Easter holiday).

We have three years of them releasing the December DLC around mid-month beyond that first one.

For me, it's not a huge stretch to think they might tease one animal in the morning and another in the afternoon for a day or two. It wouldn't need to be every day, obviously. Just ~2 days. Might arguably be better for the algorithm and hype too. Especially if they were to do videos instead of screenshots.

"Oh look! Markhor! Wonder what else we might see on the other side of this peak. What was it that just scurried away over there? Let's go see what it is... Keep an eye out this afternoon!"

Do we actually have evidence of when frontiers holiday break starts? Or is it just an assumption.

As far as I'm aware we are just assuming, no one has provided any evidence that the Frontier takes their break a week before Christmas.
It's been mentioned elsewhere that the Frontier offices are typically closed during the week leading up to the holiday as well. Maybe that's changed and it's different this year... But that's how it's been in the past. Or so I've read.

The only Himalayan area I've ever seen in a zoo featured snow leopard, red panda, white-cheeked gibbon for whatever reason, and a handful of not-so-accurate birds and turtles at Chattanooga Zoo. I'd hesitate to even call it a Himalayan section if not for the explicit theming around the red pandas. Unfortunately, exotic ungulates that aren't giraffes, zebras, or rhinos are exceedingly rare across majors zoos in the southeastern US, so for cold-favoring mountainous ones that goes double.

My next one will be, but for now I'm burdened with breaking every laptop I own because its their fault for not bring able to keep up with my zoos.
You're a monster. All this innocent laptops
I play on a laptop with a fan cooler underneath.
Bc laptop + sofa + blanket + PZ = happiness
I agree. However, I don't have a nearby plug nor could I afford a gaming laptop with high enough graphics, so I can't. Plus, I can just plop a heater under my desk if I'm desperate for warmth (which is super rare for me, as I'm so hot-natured that I've been known to sweat in winter)
I have some dell PC I got at Microcenter that I didn't plan for gaming. Then I got a Radeon graphics card and plopped it in to play PZ.
Nice. My desktop actually came from the medical center. We buy auctions of desktops and laptops from schools and hospitals, reset them, and resell. The last batch of desktops were just what I was looking for, had all the necessary specs. I just added my graphics card (AMD Radeon RX 580) and my gaming experience has become cinematic
I have a laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GC as well. Game works well but i've never built a huge zoo yet.
I could never get it to work for some reason, but that's awesome, too
Honestly, I have been reading on JWE2 forum for a bit since it was getting boring here with the same discussions over and over (sorry guys..). I don't have JWE but it looks interesting. How is it different from Planet zoo? For example building, are the buildings premade? Do you also have unlimited options to build like in Planet zoo?
It's different. Building in general is easier because the buildings are pre-built. However, you can edit their color and some design aspects so that it's not the same building plopped over and over again. However, I think the overall interactions between different species and their behavior is better than PZ, because animals can and will acknowledge each other, including territory fights and even cohabitation
I haven't played much because weirdly enough My computer can handle PZ but was very laggy with PK. I should try again though maybe they did some optimización as well with the new updates.
My laptop couldn't handle PK well, either. It requires higher graphics than PZ
I haven't played JWE2 but when I was going through their SM to find out when they were posting updates I was really impressed with the dinosaurs. They look so great. I played a little bit of JWE1 and got bored though so is the game play kind of the same?

Tbh PZ is the only game I play a lot of now, I don't really want another way to sink my time and money.
JWE 2 is way improved. If I went back to JWE 1, I'd get bored. But JWE 2 is more fun, and has some replayability that PZ lacks, in my honest opinion. However, PZ is superior in detailed builds and the like
I am thinking of taking a break from pz. I have been playing it non stop for years now.. so many other games I still want to play.
What else do you have in mind?

These flags and whatever else that suits the himalayan theme

This kinda look like those little flags from Mexico (I think it's called papel picado)
Prehistoric Kingdom like someone said earlier feels like an unfinished version of PZ. I quickly lost interest in PK because its building system seemed almost overwhelming. The scaling for all pieces is just too much for me, I know there are a lot of things one could build with the scaling feature, but idk I just couldn’t get behind it.
I agree. And to think some people want scalable pieces. That'd take the building to a whole new level that overwhelms me just thinking about it

Found a few pics.
Part of the new Takin Enclosure:

I believe that is all the species that will be part of the area. Most of them (if not all) are already in the zoo.

This is a video about the snow leopard and markhor rotation exhibit at the Highland Wildlife Park - apparently the rotation happens about once a month. Certainly one of the more interesting enclosure types that I've seen.

As for Himalayan sections, the only moderately-sized ones in the UK I'm aware of that haven't already been mentioned are Little Himalaya at Wingham Wildlife Park and Himalayan Pass at Yorkshire Wildlife Park - both are home entirely to carnivores. Little Himalaya has a mixed enclosure of Asian small-clawed otters and binturongs, plus standalone enclosures for Eurasian lynx, Asiatic black bears and an Amur leopard (replacing the more accurate clouded leopards that have since moved into a nocturnal house). Himalayan Pass consists of just two enclosures, one for red pandas and the other a mix of binturongs and smooth-coated otters.

It's pretty notable how rare caprids are in the UK - the only place I know that is really planning on getting any caprids at all is a place with no intended geographical placement (all the animals just live at liberty in a single 170-acre reserve).

Yeah, Welsh Mountain Zoo has a small Himalayan section with Red Pandas, Asian Small Clawed Otters and the new Snow Leopard enclosure. It’s a great little area, but minimal as is every other Himalayas themed area. Could do with a caprine.

The only thing I can think of that scaling would be useful would be the animal signs, other than that I would find no use and wouldn’t like scaling in PZ.

It’s just too much.

They also have Kalij pheasant, which might not seem too notable but it is quite a rare species here. I do agree with you though, they certainly have the space for some good caprine exhibits and they'd do very well there I think.

If they did add scaling you wouldn't have to use it? I'd definitely use it for basically all the props I think.

I think having the chance to scale objects allows you to use ítems in non conventional ways. And is deffinetly useful for decorative pieces and foliage. And like Fallax said even if it is a feature that doesn't mean one has to use it.
