Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Because both animals carnibalise each others niches.
Both are small, insectivorus bears from tropical asia but the sun bear not only came first, its also more unique.
Just look at then
They look wrong in a hideous yet goofy way.
Theres a reason they are often called to resemble people in bad bear costumes and are arguably of all bears the most distinct looking.
They are also the only bear species kept in oceania, which is another boon.
Boons that the sloth bear does not have and no being fuzzy and carrying babys on your back isnt a compareable boon
The Sloth Bear is also very unique looking. Nevertheless it brings us closer to all bears. You might Not want that but me and some Others would Like to See all of them coming the Game. The Sloth Bear does not really have negative aspects in my opinion and as we already wait since nearly 3 years for a Bear species I really see no reason that it cannot be Part of the so called "Clone" area.

I think the same could be said about the sun bear, both bears are relatively uncommon in captivity but oddly enough the sun bear is perceived as a suitable animal unlike the sloth bear.
I didn't know the Sun Bears were uncommon in captivity. I visited 3 zoos this year, two of them had the Sun Bears + Binturong exhibits. Never seen a Sloth Bear in a zoo but I would love to.

And if it's just about being from india the black buck would have been >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> in how usefull it actually would be as the sloth bear is just another mid size carnivoran, a niche filled by caracal, striped hyena and dhole allready, meanwhile for ungulates india is dry as a desert.
Literally carnivoran number 19th on species level, which can be found in India rofl. One could pick random region from India and still find bunch of them to build for.
Maybe with 20th people will finally be satisfied.

I actually thought the same yesterday but I compared both the EAZA numbers from zootierliste and the latest AZA from zoochat (2021) to find both were only around 15 holdings despite the sun bears popularity as a Southeast asian animal.

Besides you being completly right on me not caring to add animals just to have all animals of a group, especally when other more common, more important groups are completly absent from the game (waterfowl) or extremly slim in their representation (asian ungulates, monkeys, tortoises, lizards) the sloth bear also doesnt have any unique posetives and thats my issue with it.
And thats also why i cant understand why people prefer them over the other bears as it really only has its range in india that sets it apart.
To me its the definition of a lackluster inclusion and unlike the other packs this year which also have been overflowing with those it isnt even particulary usefull.
Its niche is taken by a more interesting animal and unlike something like ungulates or primates you dont need 2 of them in the same zoo, so why would anyone actually ise them outside of recency bias or finding them visually appealing but guess what would also be those two things and actually having an open niche?
An indian antelope, a mongoose, any bird, even an exhibit cobra.
Cuteness/visual appeal is not special, allmost any animal has that and even then it doesnt even look that different.

Im fine with the choices made as long as the other half of the pack doesnt contain a single ungulate or carnivoran I am tired of getting pack almost entirely full of them let anything else have its time please because I think thats ultimately why people are mad because we are so burnout of ungulates and carnivorans they are good and useful just not so many all at once.

If we should get the Blackbuck I really do Not mind a second antelope this Pack (perhaps I am Not the measurement regarding antelopes).

Im expecting either it or fishing cat for this pack.
Edit: well, it has wolverine, but nothing is stopping them from adding both!
I know you mean IT ironically but I would Not mind If we should get one of them. The fishing Cat I have Seen Last year and the Honey Badger would fullfill the Trio of Madness.

so are we sort of expecting there to be more animals than the aforementioned
yes based on the fact that since introduction there have been 2 animal packs a year and we havent seen any scenery yet as well as the fact that we have never had all the animals in an animal pack teased in the livestream

It's exactly what happens when we hype ourselves up with a single roster in mind then everywhere sees the same and tell everyone we are getting this diverse mountain pack. The community seems to be getting more and more desperate for certain pack ideas without the ability to be fluid in expectations, there's the bird demands, aquarium demands, india packs, dry mountain, cold mountain demands so Frontier is trying to fulfill all these requests all at once without satisfying any group really.

As a person who loves all the animal ideas, it's a shame to see people so hostile to a unique asian pack.

Thats absolutly a big reason but imo just as much that its really not hard to make good yet reasonable packs.

It doesnt take a scientist that takin + wolverine + 2. Goat + baboon + bird + 2 wild cards is a winning formula for a mountain pack and it takes just eyes to see that the whole community wants 2 things the most, birds and SA animals.

The Frustration for me is not that im not getting what i wanted, cause i actually do, i wanted 3/4 animals so far, my frustration is that it feels like frontier is blind and deaf to the communitys biggest wants by activly avoiding adding birds and SA animals at any point for what?
More ungulates and carnivorans?
From africa and asia?

The only pack this year that didnt feel tone deaf to the communitys wants and needs was the oceania pack, which actual content i couldnt care less about, what matters was that for once it felt like they listend and did something that wasnt plain stupid.
I dont mean to insult frontier with that, but all the backlash that tropical and arid got was 300% to be expected as it felt like frontier saw what the community wanted, a tropical animal pack with SA focus and a worldwide desert pack, blacked out everything and gave us the opposite if what we wanted with tropical and an africa only desert pack.
Thats stupid, i got no other word for it, it fealt like and still does like going against the very simple and common opinions about how these packs should be like and making them worse for no reason.

No one here can tell me that getting the correct sloth, swapping the water monitor for a tamandua and swapping black rhino, one antelope and somali wild ass to collared peccary, yellow footed rock wallaby and a perentie would have been that much more work and wouldnt have made people alot less dissapointed in these packs.
