I didn't know where else to post this but it is game related; does it bother anyone else that the dhole, that came in the Southeast Asia Animal Pack, is supposed to be the Ussuri dhole, i.e. the nominate subspecies, which doesn't occur in Southeast Asia, but rather Central China (historically in Manchuria, Korea, the Amur Valley, etc.)? Sometimes taxonomic clarification is good, and other times I wish they'd leave it ambiguous.
Huh, I never would have even noticed that. In an awful way Planet Zoo not being specific with subspecies or unique genetic lineages is pretty accurate to real zoos.

If I had one genuine complaint about zoos as a whole (I have more than one) it would be how little they put emphasis on subspecies. Yes zoos breed endangered white rhinos, but where do these genes come from?

It kind of the same thing with the Takin.

Man everyone was posting baked goods, I wish I took a picture of the gingerbread cookies I made with my girlfriend. I didn’t have ground ginger so I had to chop up and try to mince a fresh one.

Also good news everyone I passed my finals!

Guys I was recording some listening tests at the studio this week (for my job) and one of the voice actors was also the director of Baldur's Gate 3. I was so starstruck 🤩 noone else had a clue what we were talking about 😅 she's kiwi and very cool. Also met the guy who did the voices for some of the thomas the tank engine characters and robocop 😅 fun day away from the office!

Oh wow that's awesome!

Honestly kiwis have the best accent 😆 Sometimes when I'm with my friends we all do random accents and I always do NZ. I have one friend who can do like any accent that you can think of, I can only pull off UK, AU, NZ, and southern US. And sometimes I randomly get a Canadian accent for no apparent reason

I agree, love the kiwi accent! The tests I make feature accents from all over the world and I work on the US and NZ teams, so I hear a lot of them. Much nicer than the Aussie accent (sorry Aussies!) I always get Flight of the Concords songs / Eagle vs Shark quotes stuck in my head though 😅 With my semi-American background I can pull off a passable neutral US/West Coast accent but my fave US accents are the brawny East Coast ones 😁 UK is a hard one for Americans to pull off, bravo! We're usually either Mary Poppins or a supervillain when we are coming from an American 😂

Well if you're good at voice work there are lots of interesting jobs in the games / tv industry. Voice actors are fun people!

Awesome! Where do you work? Just curious.

If you have any knowledge of the voiceover industry, got any recommendations for how one could break into it? I’m pretty good at silly/stupid voices, and I’ve been told that I’d be good at it.

Honestly I feel like the basic American accent is kind of boring. Maybe that's just because that's what I've grown up listening to all the time, or maybe it's just because its plain.
but my fave US accents are the brawny East Coast ones
Boston and NY/NJ accents are definitely the most intimidating. Despite me being from Massachusetts I still can't manage to to do either!

Really? Interesting. It seems almost everyone I know can do one. But yeah, why are the supervillains always British?

I've voice acted a few times for little stop motion films me and my friends made as kids, but that's about it. I don't think there's a lot of that being done around my area, more of a Nashville/Hollywood thing.

Another thing about accents is that for some reason almost all Americans seem to find any accent calming or soothing. Maybe it's just because we don't hear them that often 😂

Oh, I forgot to tell you about the dream I had last night!

So it started off where on the Forums me and @Captain Callum were having an argument on Pelicans, and then @DarthQuell got involved, and then I got off for the night, and then @Villanelle somehow found where I lived and was screaming something outside my house, then I somehow got to one of my local Theaters, and then something happened that I don't remember, and then I woke up.

That was wild.

😂 Pelicans are overrated just so I'm clear. Goose supremacy

Hahaha! I hope I was screaming in a...fun...way? Sorry for dream stalking you 😂 Where is that lovely @DarthQuell anyway, he's been gone awhile!

Don't think I could call it between geese and pelicans, they both have their merits. I know who I'd take into battle with me tho.

Haha, I keep having internal debates about what is okay to share on the internet!

Just to be clear I'm not concerned about sharing things with all you lovely people, its just what sits around on the internet for bots to search that I'm thinking about. But my LinkedIn is out there and I think I've already given away my full name away a couple of times so I think this much is fine. I'll post my credit card details, passport number and full address later on 😂

I work for Cambridge University Press and Assessment. One product line in the company is English language coursebooks and exams. I work mainly on the exams. Sounds horrendously boring but its actually really fun! I love words and nerdy stuff so it suits me really well. I used to be an English language teacher and taught abroad for most of my 20s, then I did an MA in linguistics. So its not glam stuff but it is a lovely place to work and all the people I work with are amazing, smart and well travelled and really lovely. Working with kind people makes all the difference.

I'm afraid I dont know about how to get into the industry! All the actors I'm working with have a solid background in drama / performing arts / theatre so that's the mainstream route I expect. Then you get yourself an agent and get a portfolio on a voice acting website (different in each country). Much the same route as acting for tv/film/theatre I expect. Definitely looks like a fun career but also hard and lacks stability. Don't let that put you off though, reach for the stars, dream big, I wish I'd pursued my love of art and / or animal behavioural science when I was younger and taken less of a 'safe' route (which turned out to be very rocky anyway, teaching abroad is not for wimps and doesn't give you any stability!) I'm very happy where it's led me though and had some great adventures along the way 😊

Not really related to PZ but its to exciting for me not to share.
Got hired by a real museum for my modelmaking for the first time :)

Yeah, it was something about ducks I think…

He might be gone from the forums forever, might not. He made a big post on the Eurasia pack thread about it, I hope he’s doing well now.
