Passenger cabin problems

So I'm trying to rescue passengers from a thargoid attacked station but the VIPs that pay well say they want a business cabin. That's fine and I went to get a 6D business cabin so it's maximum capacity. I go back and it still says that the minimum cabin requirement is business. All of the station's factions are allied so it's not a reputation problem. I tried googling but other posts just say it's because VIPs can't be split up or that there isn't enough space. It's a 6D cabin, the biggest capacity there is and it's entirely empty. I cannot figure out it won't let me accept for the life of me so I come here seeking help.

Look how big is the group you want to take aboard. If it's bigger than your max cabin, you'll need to fit more cabins.
The group can be split, but you won't be able to "top up" any empty spaces on the cabin that has them left.

VIP groups can be split? I always thought they all had to go in 1 cabin. Gonna get a second 6D installed and try again.

IIRC yes. I've not done passenger missions for ages, so may remember wrong. But give it a go, I think that's the case, you just can't top up the cabin with another group.

IIRC - if cabins are the same class they are merged

If you have business and first class they don't merge. i.e. if you want to do business class group, the will go into the business class cabin, but if you need more space, they won't go into the 1st class cabin as a group. But if you have enough merged first class cabin space a lower class group will go into the merged 1st class cabins. At least, I think that's how it works...

Alright so long story short, it didn't work. I got 2 6D Business class cabins meaning 32 business class space if they truly are merged but it still tells me the minimum required class is business.

Here's some images of what I mean.

No idea if it would work but have you tried with only Business class cabins fitted?

Back last year sometime when I did evacuations I just went for numbers rather than anything else so just fitted Economy class cabins.

Yeah, it doesn't actually say on the screenshot how many people are in each party so it could indeed be more than 32, is there somewhere in the dialogues it does actually tell you?
It doesn't tell you unless you already meet the requirements to accept the mission which I don't.

If you don't have the available number of cabins for the group then you also don't meet the requirements so you would still see the same dialogue. It seems to me a failure of the mission board, surely it should tell you somewhere rather than just letting you guess.

When I researched my problem I saw multiple people complaining about the same thing. I guess it really is just a failure of the mission board. You just have to guess.

Business class cabins do NOT go higher than 16. I physically cannot get a bigger cabin because a bigger one doesn't exist.

Well that's a problem, I can see that right away, not being much of a passenger runner I wasn't aware of that, it seems the mission board is truly bugged then.

The wiki seems to imply you can split groups;

This means pilots can carry multiple groups in one cabin or even split the groups among different cabins (having the same class).

This seems to be where things have gone pear shaped.
