What if we got something to do with the Thargoids that wasn't just killing them?

So those dozens of people who themselves said Frontier doesn’t consider most of the original game canon (please show me undeniable proof in any of the Elite games following with Thargoids in them that they are an intergalactic civilization) don’t count for anything?

I’m just not gonna bother if you want to be like that. Sharing a name doesn’t mean sharing the same behavior and I consider FFE to be a much more reliable source of how to judge Thargoids than the 1984 Elite which largely does not appear to be part of the canon any longer.
Not until you show proof that:
Frontier doesn’t consider most of the original game canon

Your move.

There will never be peace when humanity is involved ." Panem et circenses" . Along with humanity winning against a technological superior older race because thats what we do 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Like an old b movie ... The hero always wins

Shouldn't have thrown all those christians to the circus lions, I guess -- they used to claim they had this guy who could take a loaf of bread, and make a ton of copies of it out of thin air...

The First Apostle also claimed the Titans were the signs of the Far God getting ready to arrive to wipe us all out.

I’m not seeing anything around here yet… unless it’s just not going to be related to the Thargoids at all, or it’s something that comes out to say hi after Taranis got nuked from the inside and its absurdly powerful hyperdrive ripped a hole into the fabric between our universe and Witch Space when that happened.

Or, however I should describe it.

a CMDR asks a certain dev if there is a thargoid reputation and the answer is "who is to say there isn't one?"

Agree that we are not playing Original Elite. But that IS where they drew first blood.
Indeed it is.

"The Thargoids are peaceful, you just gotta give them a chance"

"They drew first blood in the 3100s"

"That doesn't count!"

I'm just saying, the virus and the Proteus wave were justified and not unprovoked.

Its speculative who "literally drew first blood". And who cares. Humans expanded into Thargoid territory.

It's pretty equivalent to saying humans should exterminate alligators because sometimes when we leave our comfy villages and go into the swamps to collect tasty alligator eggs* we might get attacked. Yes! Alligator might bite you! Alligators have lived in these swamps for well over a million years... much before Native Americans came to North America, never mind Europeans. The alligators are semi-smart but mostly function on instinct. Trying to communicate with them to tell them to stay off urban properties and golf courses doesn't work at all. But its their fault for humans expanding into alligator territory, changing the land, building roads and cities?

Okay, extermination is extreme... we will set up reservations for them. That way we can continue expanding and building cities wherever we like. Stupid alligators!

* I don't actually know if alligator eggs are good to eat, but you get my meaning.

On non-AX Xeno-related activities, we indeed crossed the "let's get friendly" border two wars ago. Because a "virus that corrodes and destroys you so hard that even the person who shot you with it regrets it" is kinda hard to get over it. Plus, an ancient race that can literally just go away and await the eventual death of a species caused by the species itself probably doesn't see value in making friends.

Frontier painting Thargoids as the common enemy is okay, and it's not like this doesn't create interesting stories. The Starship Troopers references are great, what better way of talking about facism organically with that tangent? Chef's kiss.

Also, even for those who don't want to do AX but still want Xeno-related, there are still Reactivation missions (killing Thargoids there isn't required) and mining rescuing humans from Titans (which now is easier since Hunters don't interdict in Malestroms anymore), among others like supplying resources and transporting people away from the frontlines. These can still be roleplayed from the point of view of "having to clean up after warmongers" without attacking Thargoids, only helping humans who have no blame but are still victims in the war.

Heck, non-AX has more options than AX if you look at it. AX can shoot Thargoids in space, can shoot Thargoids in conflict zones, can shoot Thargoids on the Titan or shoot the Titan itself, and can shoot Thargoids who don't shoot back at the spire sites for cash. Non-AX can ferry humans away from the frontlines evading Hunters, can rescue humans from Titans, can reactivate settlements right under the nose of Thargoids (or recover important data from said settlements), can trade supplies to help those in need... Non-AX has more variety in activities than AX does.
We should have our Shaka when the walls fell moment though. Schmack and Ughanrorroh at Shinrarta.

I see this goalpost has wheels on it :)
Perhaps be more careful when replying when there are lots of people participating in a thread. I know it can be confusing when several people are saying different things. Go back and read and know who & what you are replying to.

Clarifying what I already said: I am not playing Elite 1984. In the Elite Dangerous game I am playing it is speculative "who-shot-who" as humans expanded outward and stumbled upon Thargoids. It was human choice to build colonies in areas that had Thargoid presence, which now appears to have been Thargoid Territory for a very very long time. And it was Humans that chose to return to these systems and fight so colonies could grow and expand.

No goalposts on wheels. 😉
