Science Fiction is rife with wars of misunderstanding where peaceful solutions were eventually found. Haldeman's "The Forever War" is a case in point where humanity had to be a mostly clone civilization to communicate with the aliens who were themselves clones.
Another possibility is that we are being tested by a civilization that is protecting others in the universe untill we are deemed worthy to join an intergalactic society.
There are countles others that couldl be represented by the current Thargoid war. I will not be surprised if something occurs between now and the PP2 reveal that turns our galaxy on its ear. Thargoids inPP, why not. Would definitely make things interesting, especially if it brought Thargoid technology into human hands.
